My dear Sellers

We are all delighted to hear from you once more after so long a silence & to learn you are business free while yet all your feelings are young still unspoiled, able to love nature - able to see God. Hurrah!! I'm downright glad Now we will see more of you. That is a sad story of Mrs Sellers family. I devoutly hope & pray that rest in the cottage in Wisconsin will restore her health The greater ones sympathy & lovingkindness in this world of ours the greater are our pleasures & the …

John Muir Correspondence (PDFs)

Pasadena,
March 8, 1901,

My dear Mr. Muir:

Words are inadequate to egress the gratitude I feel for all you have done for me. When I think of your leaving your important work, and spending so much time and kindly thought upon my manuscripts, I feel the deepest gratitude. I wish there was something I could do to show my appreciation, but as things are now, you have enerything to bestow, while I have nothing.
