Blair, situated on the Missouri River at the eastern edge of Nebraska, is in the original territory of Nebraska, opened for settlement by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. (Figure 1, p. 2) Prior to this Act small settlements had been made at Fort Kearny, on the Platte River, and at Bellevue on the Missouri. There were ferry landings along the Missouri River that later became the towns of Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, and Omaha. The prospered because of river transportation and trails to the interior. Blair was unique in that, through situated on the Missouri River, it came into being as …

Logan Canyon is located east of Logan, Utah, in the Bear River Range. The lower part of Logan Canyon is considered that section of the canyon from its mouth upstream to Tony Grove Canyon, a distance of 22 miles1, Figure 1. Some tributary canyons of the lower part of Logan Canyon have been included in this investigation because of their relationship to Logan Canyon. Grassy Flat Canyon, a south tributary of Logan Canyon 4.4 miles from Logan, exhibits several geomorphic features related to the geology of Logan Canyon. This paper will attempt to point out the comments or the various travellers in Virginia concerning the functions of public houses from 1750 to lP.12. The travellers as individuals had their prejudices, inaccuracies, and contradictions, but their remarks, on tho other hand, help to give a valuable on the scene picture of this area of early Virginia history. Traveller's comments on hospitality and transportation, two areas which greatly influenced the state's public houses, will also be included to form e better perspective, and on occasion laws, newspapers and other articles will be used to clarify and expend various topics mentioned …

The East India Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially opened in 1851, with the arrival of Elder Joseph Richards from England. He baptized several people, the most important of whom were James Patric Meik and his family, Maurice White, and Matthew McCune and his family. The Meiks and the McCunes contributed a great deal of service to the Church in Calcutta and Rangoon. Both of these families eventaully immigrated to Utah. Elder Richards left Calcutta after a few months there and before his return some months later, was preceeded by Elder William Willes. Willes …

This study was made to aid in teaching economic concepts in an eighth grade history unit on Mexico. The economic problems in Mexico, especially in the area of agriculture, are compared to similar problems in the United States to show that, though the problems in Mexico may be similar to problems that have developed in the United States, there are factors that make it necessary to use a much different approach in solving them.

Oakley is located in southern Idaho in the Goose Creek Valley, an area traversed by trappers and explorers who named the streams and left accounts of their experiences and travels. It was a rendezvous for Indians who went there to gather pine nuts and get wild game for their winter's meat.
An emigration trail was located south of Oakley, where thousands wended their way to California. Emigrants going to Oregon from the East branched off this trail at the City of Rocks and came down Birch Creek to the Rock Creek Stage Station, southeast of the present town of Twin …
