Fostering Of Creativity Within An Imaginative Curriculum In Higher Education, Roisin Donnelly

Journal Articles

Evaluation Of The Cooperative Education And Internships Program At Prince George’S Community College, Diana Y. Doman Wilkins

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The Cooperative Education and Internships program is charged with placing students in positions that will allow them to gain experience in a work environment related to their major area of study. Job development specialists receive no type of written feedback from the employer, the faculty advisor, or the student on whether or not the placement was successful. The problem is that Cooperative Education and Internships has not demonstrated its effectiveness; therefore, there is reluctance from students, faculty advisors, and job development specialists to continue participating and/or promoting the program.

The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of …

Mentoring As A Precursor To Incorporation: An Assessment Of The Mentoring Experience Of Recently Minted Ph.D.S, Regina Dixon-Reeves

Center for Cultural Development: Staff Scholarship

Consistently, the academic and anecdotal research on mentoring has demonstrated that it is important in enhancing opportunities for success and achievement. Whereas many would agree that mentoring is important for females and scholars of color, there is very little research to confirm this conventional wisdom. In an effort to fill the gap of knowledge about how mentoring affects the success of African American junior faculty, this article explores the mentoring experiences of recently graduated, African American doctorates (Ph.D.s) in the field of sociology. This research demonstrates how mentoring can enhance the opportunities of faculty of color and facilitate advancement through …

People, Politics, Policy: The (Im)Possibilities Of Institutional Collaborations, Lily Kong

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

The university is among the oldest and most durable institutions in the world, surviving over 900 years. Until relatively recently, universities were small institutions, catering to slight proportions of the general population. They were elite institutions. Educating these small groups was the remit of universities. However, the reach, roles, and expectations of universities have changed especially in the last century and a half. While still catering to a select group, the proportions of many societies which have access to university education have grown. Further, whereas education was previously the sole function of universities, research expectations appeared about 150 years ago. …

Goddesses In The Union: A Qualitative Study Of Women In Leadership Positions In College And University Union Settings, Susan H. Payment Edd

Dissertations

The student union facilities found on the majority of college and university campuses within the United States serve a variety of functions. Commonly referred to as the “living room” of the campus community, student unions provide space for co-curricular educational experiences, study and reflection, organizational meetings/business, retail operations, dining and entertainment. The field of university union management attracts individuals that enjoy working in complex, high-energy environments where learning and student development are encouraged. Despite the overwhelming presence of women in today's workforce, the realm of university union management remains dominated by men. A “glass ceiling” appears to exist in this …
