Makna Perilaku Motivasi Belajar Geografi Yang Rendah Dengan Pendekatan Fenomenologi, Eko Anang Hadi Santoso, Achmad Fatchan, I Nyoman Ruja

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

Motivation to learn is an important aspect in the learning process of a student. However, efforts to understand the motivation of student learning through an educational research with phenomenological approach has not been done by education practitioners. Man as the subject of education is dynamic, it takes an in-depth approach, holistic and humanistic to study it. Phenomenological approach is an appropriate alternative to research in education. The focus in this paper is the meaning of a low learning motivation by student of Sukosari Senior High School. The results showed that students have low motivation to learn its meaning is to …

Monetary Compensation Of Full-Time Faculty At American Public Regional Universities: The Impact Of Geography And The Existence Of Collective Bargaining, Stephen G. Katsinas, Johnson A. Ogun, Nathaniel J. Bray Jan 2017

Monetary Compensation Of Full-Time Faculty At American Public Regional Universities: The Impact Of Geography And The Existence Of Collective Bargaining, Stephen G. Katsinas, Johnson A. Ogun, Nathaniel J. Bray

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

This paper examines monetary compensation of 127,222 full-time faculty employed by the 390 regional universities in the United States who are members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. Compensation data published by the U.S. Department of Education and organizations concerned with faculty, including the American Association of University Professors and others, typically lump all four-year public university faculty together, ignoring well-known differences in teaching workloads at different types of public four-year universities (four instead of two courses taught each term, etc.). Further, many compensation studies do not examine fringe benefits, which are 30 percent of total monetary …

Space, Land, Territory, And The Study Of The Bible, Stephen C. Russell Jan 2017

Space, Land, Territory, And The Study Of The Bible, Stephen C. Russell

Publications and Research

In this brief volume, written for professional biblical scholars and graduate students being trained in biblical studies, Stephen C. Russell introduces the reader to the interdisciplinary study of space and its related concepts, including land, territory, border, frontier, nature, scale, spatial flows, and rhythm. He offers a synopsis of eight approaches to the study of space that have been influential in the humanities and social sciences in recent decades—sacred, legal, political, economic, ecological, visual, social, and urban approaches. He pays special attention to Henri Lefebvre’s treatment of social space as a social product. The volume also briefly notes some of …

An Evaluation Of Gridded Temperature Products And Their Effectiveness In Modeling Small Scale Ambient Temperatures, Barrie Chileen Jan 2017

An Evaluation Of Gridded Temperature Products And Their Effectiveness In Modeling Small Scale Ambient Temperatures, Barrie Chileen

Geography: Student Scholarship & Creative Works

The use of remotely sensed temperature products is becoming increasingly prevalent in research on climate change due to their accessibility, low cost, and spatial and temporal coverage. These studies use gridded products to model near-surface ambient temperatures as many often lack the resources and time to conduct on- site temperature measurements. Previous studies have compared the effectiveness of these gridded products against each other and weather station data (Vavrus et al. 2015, McEvoy et al. 2014). However, little research has been done to determine the effectiveness of these gridded products in modeling ambient climate. For this study, 65 LogTag temperature …

Using A Social Ecological Model To Explore Upstream And Downstream Solutions To Rural Food Access For The Elderly, Lauri Andress Jan 2017

Using A Social Ecological Model To Explore Upstream And Downstream Solutions To Rural Food Access For The Elderly, Lauri Andress

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

A social ecological model is applied to the secondary analysis of qualitative data to study the impact of place on rural food access for older adults in West Virginia. The use of a social-ecological model to review the senior’s coded narratives provided a clearer picture of higher impact, upstream levers to address food security for older adults in a rural region. The elderly have restricted access to food in rural West Virginia because of an indirect relationship with place that acts through the social ecological domains of the built environment, macrosocial factors, stressors, the natural environment, and social support. The …

Impact Of Simultaneous Exposure To Arboviruses On Infection And Transmission By Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes, Claudia Rückert, James Weger-Lucarelli, Selene M. Garcia-Luna, Michael C. Young, Alex D. Byas, Reyes A. Murrieta, Joseph R. Fauver, Gregory D. Ebel Jan 2017

Impact Of Simultaneous Exposure To Arboviruses On Infection And Transmission By Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes, Claudia Rückert, James Weger-Lucarelli, Selene M. Garcia-Luna, Michael C. Young, Alex D. Byas, Reyes A. Murrieta, Joseph R. Fauver, Gregory D. Ebel

Journal Articles: Epidemiology

The recent emergence of both chikungunya and Zika viruses in the Americas has significantly expanded their distribution and has thus increased the possibility that individuals may become infected by more than one Aedes aegypti-borne virus at a time. Recent clinical data support an increase in the frequency of coinfection in human patients, raising the likelihood that mosquitoes could be exposed to multiple arboviruses during one feeding episode. The impact of coinfection on the ability of relevant vector species to transmit any of these viruses (that is, their vector competence) has not been determined. Thus, we here expose Ae. aegypti mosquitoes …

© 2017, Universidad de Costa Rica. All rights reserved. Vieja melanura is a Neotropical cichlid occurring in the Petén-lake district systems of Guatemala, as well as the Río Grijalva-Usumacinta basin, and other systems in Southern México, Belize, and Guatemala. A caudal stripe, extending forward from the caudal peduncle, is characteristic of this species. This stripe is sloped downward in nearly all individuals of V. melanura, but the degree of the slope is highly variable throughout its range. The slope and shape of the stripe has previously been used in diagnosing and differentiating between species of Vieja. The purpose of this …

Field Observations Of Infragravity Wave Response To Variable Sea-Swell Wave Forcing, Kris William Inch Jan 2017

Field Observations Of Infragravity Wave Response To Variable Sea-Swell Wave Forcing, Kris William Inch

School of Biological and Marine Sciences Theses

Infragravity waves are low frequency (0.005-0.04 Hz) waves that can dominate the spectrum of water motions and sediment transport processes within the inner surf zone. Despite the established importance of infragravity waves in shaping our coasts and numerous studies dating back to the 1950s, several aspects of infragravity wave analysis, generation and dissipation remain poorly understood. As much of the recent infragravity research has focussed on fetch-limited coasts, less is known about the climatology of these waves on energetic coastlines subject to both swell and fetch-limited waves. It has been postulated that bed friction only plays a significant role in …

A Contemporary Citation Analysis Of Geography Education Journals: 2009–2015, Thom Gerrish, Donald Patrick Albert

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

This study examined the flow of citations from 713 documents emanating from ten geography education journals from 2009 to 2011. The citations generated from these articles were tracked within and between this set of journals from 2009 through 2015. Our searches found 1,067 citations, or an average of 1.5 citations per article. After excluding self-citations, the remaining citations (33.6 percent) filtered out into other geography education journals and were classified into three groups: splash, wave, and ripple. Although the Journal of Geography in Higher Education generated the largest in-degree count, it shared the lead with the International Research in Geographical …

The People's Republic Of China And The Global Class War, Collin L. Chambers Jan 2017

The People's Republic Of China And The Global Class War, Collin L. Chambers

Theses - ALL

This thesis attempts to provide a more sufficient understanding of post-reform China’s position in global political economic space than the understandings and conceptions that currently exist in geography and the broader critical social sciences and humanities. This thesis argues that post-reform China is best understood through the global class war framework. The global class war does not conceive post-reform China as “imperialist,” “neoliberal,” or even “capitalist.” Instead the framework understands post-reform China as a social formation that is simply attempting to arise within a global political economic system that is dominated by the global imperialist class camp. Additionally, the global …

Using Gis To Detect Land Use Changes In The Salinas River Valley From 2001 And 2011, Brian Strukan

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

The use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) to explore, analyze, and interpret our environment is a relatively new technology with exciting new advances emerging each day. GIS can be used along with satellite imagery to detect changes on Earth’s surface (Delavar, 2015). With the human population growing rapidly, it has become very important to monitor when, where, and how we are changing the planet. Using the theory of land economics, coupled with land classification maps from 2001 and 2011, I will explain how cities are changing in the Salinas River Valley, a prime agricultural zone in central California. Are …

How I Learned Geography, Tessa Mcmillan Oct 2016

How I Learned Geography, Tessa Mcmillan

Children's Book and Media Review

After war destroys their home in Europe, a young boy and his parents find refuge in Central Asia. The boy’s small family live in a one-room house made from clay, straw, and camel dung. They share their home with a couple they do not know. Life is hard as they try to handle living in such a foreign place. At the end of a long, hunger-filled day, the boy’s father returns from the bazaar with a large world map and a very small piece of bread. The boy is angry at his father for not bringing home enough food. But …

The African Diaspora in the Western Hemisphere represents one of the largest forced migrations in history and had a profound impact on genetic diversity in modern populations. To date, the fine-scale population structure of descendants of the African Diaspora remains largely uncharacterized. Here we present genetic variation from deeply sequenced genomes of 642 individuals from North and South American, Caribbean and West African populations, substantially increasing the lexicon of human genomic variation and suggesting much variation remains to be discovered in African-admixed populations in the Americas. We summarize genetic variation in these populations, quantifying the postcolonial sex-biased European gene flow …

Mechanism Design For Land Acquisition., Soumendu Sarkar Dr. Sep 2016

Mechanism Design For Land Acquisition., Soumendu Sarkar Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Conversion of land use from agriculture to industry is a typical feature of economic development in many densely populated countries. Large scale construction often requires industry or the government to acquire vast areas of land that are inhabited and often cultivated, by hundreds and even thousands of people. For some landowners, possession signifies power and status in society, while for others, it is the only means for earning a livelihood.Adamopoulos and Restuccia (2014) use data from World Census of Agriculture to show that average farm size in the poorest 20% of countries is 1.6 hectares, while that in the richest …
