A Holistic Approach To Creating Cultures Of Quality Excellence Within Higher Education Institutions In North Carolina, Natalie Aman
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper first seeks to identify cultural factors of faculty, staff, and students within Higher Education Intuitions (HEI) and then understand how those factors affect the individual as well as the overall larger population of all studied groups to create cultures of quality excellence. Secondary data collected from government databases was used for the research. The independent variables included cultural factors for each stakeholder and the dependent variables included satisfaction levels of each stakeholder. Faculty and staff independent cultural variables included Performance Management, Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness, Communication & Collaboration, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Mission and Pride. The dependent variable …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Core facility laboratories are an essential part of the successful research enterprise of many universities around the world. Core facilities provide state-of-the-art instrumentation and technologies to support research of all faculty, postdocs, and students on a fee-for-service basis. Academic next-generation sequencing cores are typically "full service" facilities, and access to and training on their instrumentation is limited to core staff. To address these limitations, we provided graduate students with technical training at our core facility. We developed a 1-week noncredit-bearing workshop and recruited 6 graduate students (N = 6) as part of a pilot program. The program involved online teaching, …

Music Reading For Students With Learning Disabilities, Elizabeth Morrow
Music Reading For Students With Learning Disabilities, Elizabeth Morrow
SAGE Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive
As a career cello pedagogue and as a certified dyslexia instructor, I have been sought out by many string teachers for insights into how to help their students who struggle with music reading. Over time, I observed that this was a hidden problem without a research-based solution. To investigate further, I invited a self-selected cohort of string teachers to fill out a survey concerning music reading difficulties in their classrooms or studios. Fifty-two out of fifty-three respondents agreed that they had students in their programs who did not or could not learn to read music within the context of standard …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Introduction: The scholarly productivity of a faculty member can be measured through several indicators including annual appraisals, feedback, and the number of publications per year. The present study aims to assess the association of quantitative research measures and academic ranks in Australian and New Zealand dental schools. Methods: It was an analytical observational cross-sectional study. Full-time faculty members working in Australia and New Zealand's dental schools were discovered on official websites. Various bibliometric parameters including h-index, total number of citations, total number of publications, and maximum number of sources of a single publication were analyzed. Spearman rank correlation was used …

Examining Underrepresented Minority Stem Faculty Members’ Motivation For Research, Mojdeh J. Mardani, Muhammad Salahuddin, Robert Stupnisky
Education, Health & Behavior Studies Faculty Publications
Underrepresented minority (URM) university faculty can be identified as those whose representation based on gender, race, and/or ethnicity in particular fields, such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), are smaller than in the US population. Studies on URM faculty have found discrimination and affiliated stress impact faculty in many aspects of their work, such as performance in research. In the current study, we examined STEM faculty who self-identify as URM, their experiences of workplace discrimination, and how these encounters affect their self-determined motivation to conduct research. Six-hundred and fifty-one faculty from 10 US institutions completed an online survey. Of …
Faculty Of Color In The Academy: A Perspective On Cross-Cultural Mentoring, Sherrise Y. Truesdale-Moore
Faculty Of Color In The Academy: A Perspective On Cross-Cultural Mentoring, Sherrise Y. Truesdale-Moore
The Journal of Advancing Education Practice
Research has indicated that students’ race and their experiences and sense of belonging are associated with the racial characteristics of the faculty. This highlights the importance of recruitment and retention for faculty of color (FOC) in higher education. A formal faculty mentoring program is essential to providing an academic atmosphere that nurtures, supports, and develops faculty members’ teaching and research skills to assist them in feeling a sense of belonging within the university community is essential. However, finding the right mentoring program that addresses the daunting challenges among FOC is challenging. Upon reviewing the higher education faculty data and literature …

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers
OBJECTIVES: Internal medicine clerkship grades are important for residency selection, but inconsistencies between evaluator ratings threaten their ability to accurately represent student performance and perceived fairness. Clerkship grading committees are recommended as best practice, but the mechanisms by which they promote accuracy and fairness are not certain. The ability of a committee to reliably assess and account for grading stringency of individual evaluators has not been previously studied.
METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of evaluations completed by faculty considered to be stringent, lenient, or neutral graders by members of a grading committee of a single medical college. Faculty evaluations …

Trekking To The Tenure Finish Line: Teacher Educators And The Power Of Peer Mentoring At An Hbcu, Wyletta S. Gamble-Lomax, Anthony S. Felder
The Journal of Advancing Education Practice
The educator's primary goal is to ensure student success by offering dynamic student experiences that will allow the students to synthesize their new learning with hopes of practical application. In higher education, a professor can easily fall into working in isolation due to the uniqueness of course offerings and areas of professional interest. However, when professors consciously build professional peer-mentoring relationships with colleagues that have similar interests and core values, both professors can grow. For example, when an experienced tenure track professor with K12 experience partners with a novice tenure track professor with over a decade of experience in education …

Faculty Retention: A Case Study Examining The Factors That Influence Faculty Retention At The Northern Marianas College, Barbara C. Hunter
Faculty Retention: A Case Study Examining The Factors That Influence Faculty Retention At The Northern Marianas College, Barbara C. Hunter
Journal of Fundamental & Applied Business Research
The issue of the need to recruit and retain faculty has become increasingly discussed in educational literature. Retention programs for faculty play a strategic role in developing the institution, especially when it involves building capacity and maintaining a competitive advantage. The goal for this fundamental research is to illustrate how the qualitative methods applied will identify the factors that influence retention among faculty at the Northern Marianas College (NMC, 2020). To ensure that the case study was conducted thoroughly, a deeper and theoretically sound approach was explored to understand the perceptual views of current faculty and administration on retention. The …
