Musculoskeletal Injuries Associated With Selected University Staff And Faculty In An Office Environment, R. Steven Konkel, Thomas F. Fisher, Carolyn Harvey
Environmental Health Science Faculty and Staff Research
A research team with backgrounds in occupational therapy, rehabilitation, policy and rulemaking, and prevention programs affecting occupational health and safety designed, validated, and analyzed an ergonomics survey of university staff and faculty. The purpose of the study was to validate identified risk factors from the literature contributing to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) in an office setting within a university setting. The study was also designed to determine differences between faculty and staff in the university setting and their exposure to physical risk factors to WRMDs. The results suggest faculty have their keyboard in awkward positions more frequently than staff, and …

This study comprised the first step in the psychometric development of a self-report screening instrument for risk of opioid medication misuse among chronic pain patients. A 26-item instrument, the Pain Medication Questionnaire (PMQ), was constructed based on suspected behavioral correlates of opioid medication misuse, which heretofore have received limited empirical investigation. The PMQ was administered to 184 patients at an interdisciplinary pain treatment center. Reliability coefficients for the PMQ were found to be of moderate but acceptable strength. Construct and concurrent validity were examined through correlation of PMQ scores to measures of substance abuse, physical and psychological functioning, and physicians’ …

Back pain is a widespread public health problem, affecting a staggering 80% of Americans at some point in their lives. Each year, an estimated one out of every 14 people will seek medical care for back or neck pain, amounting to almost 14 million visits annually. Estimated annual costs for direct and indirect treatment range from $20 billion to $60 billion. Back and/or neck pain is cited as the second most common reason for physician visits, and it is estimated that 25% of all work injuries in the U.S. are related to low back pain. Most back pain is acute …

Method of Instruction
The educational program of the law school is designed to equip its graduates to render the highest quality of legal services, while instilling a sense of professional responsibility. Students are trained in the analysis and solution of legal problems by the application of logical reasoning. The course of study is not designed to teach legal rules, but rather to provide a foundation for the application and analysis of the law and the development of professional skills. The traditional case method of instruction is used in many courses. However, clinical education and courses devoted to various professional skills …

Factors Influencing Academics' Usage Of Electronic Journals, Margaret Krikorian
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Through a survey of academics at Edith Cowan University, Australia, this study explored their usage of and attitudes towards academic electronic journals (EJs). The data provided insights into the way academics were using EJs at the time of the study and their thoughts on how they will use them in the future. The emergence of academics publishing their work in EJs is a fairly recent phenomenon compared to the established tradition of publishing in paper-based journals. Many publishers have also begun to replace paper journals with electronic ones and many librarians have begun incorporating EJs into their resource collections. Librarians …
