A Counterbalanced Cross-Over Study Of The Effects Of Visual, Auditory And No Feedback On Performance Measures In A Simulated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Carolyn Cason, Cynthia Trowbridge, Susan M. Baxley, Mark D. Ricard

Kinesiology Faculty Publications & Presentations - Archive

Background: Previous research has demonstrated that trained rescuers have difficulties achieving and maintaining the correct depth and rate of chest compressions during both in and out of hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Feedback on rate and depth mitigate decline in performance quality but not completely with the residual performance decline attributed to rescuer fatigue. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of feedback (none, auditory only and visual only) on the quality of CPR and rescuer fatigue. Methods: Fifteen female volunteers performed 10 minutes of 30:2 CPR in each of three feedback conditions: none, auditory only, and visual …

The Impact Of Full Time Versus Adjunct/Part Time Faculty Status On Course Assessments By Hospitality Management Students, Daryl Georger Jan 2011

The Impact Of Full Time Versus Adjunct/Part Time Faculty Status On Course Assessments By Hospitality Management Students, Daryl Georger

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Over the past most recent decades, one of the most significant changes in post secondary education is the dramatic increase in the use of adjunct/part-time faculty members. As there are many potential advantages in the use of adjunct/part-time faculty there are also many possible concerns and disadvantages in the use of adjunct/part-time faculty. In order to balance the use of adjunct/part-time faculty and attempt to fully realize the advantages in using adjunct/part-time faculty while minimizing the disadvantages, it is important to determine what areas of university/college teaching are assessed by students differently between adjunct/part-time faculty and full time faculty instruction. …

Freshman Student-Faculty Interactions And Gpa: Predictors Of Retention And Overall Satisfaction, Katelyn Romsa

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

This quantitative study explored questions developed to (a) help improve the quality of retention and satisfaction services at a comprehensive public university in the Midwest as well as to (b) contribute to the knowledge base by providing a broader application to similar institutions seeking to improve these services. Three theories served as a lens for this dissertation: Astin's Involvement Theory (Astin, 1975, 1984, 1985), Kuh's Engagement Theory (Kuh, Kinzie, Schuh, & Whitt, 2005; Kuh, Schuh, & Whitt, 1991; Kuh, Whitt, & Strage, 1989), and Tinto's Theory of Student Departure (Tinto, 1975, 1987, 1993). A logistic regression analysis determined that students' …

Understanding Faculty Perceptions Of The Future: Action Research For Academic Librarians, Kara Josephine Malenfant

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

The intent of this study was to aid academic librarians in examining their perceptions of the future of higher education, engaging disciplinary faculty members to understand their views, and determining actions to take to shape the future. In this mixed methods study, scenarios about the future of higher education served as the basis for collecting quantitative (survey) and qualitative (focus group) data at one institution. During this study, staff, faculty, and administrators at one library developed new ways to craft strategies and make decisions, shifting their focus from strategic planning as an event to strategic thinking as a process, a …

Learning (2.0) To Be A Social Library, Beverly Simmons

LOEX Conference Proceedings 2008

What do you do when your faculty and staff are 1.0 people living in a 2.0 world? At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga we realized that many of our librarians and staff were unfamiliar with the Web 2.0 technologies that are so important in our students’ lives. We see students devoting an enormous amount of time and attention to online social networking. In fact, Alexa reports that five social networking sites - YouTube, MySpace, Orkut, Wikipedia and Facebook – all rank in the top 10 global Web sites for usage volume. We figured that if every librarian and staff …
