Urban Design Framework For Celina Along Preston Corridor, Srijana Shakya, Jianling Li

Planning Masters Professional Reports - Archive

The city of Celina is a small city located within Collin County in the northern part of the North Central Texas Metroplex. The city was a rural based community with a large percentage of agricultural land. However, over the past decade, Celina's population tripled from around 1800 to over 5200 people. Currently, the city is in a transition phase and is anticipated to grow and develop rapidly in the future. Development is predicted to occur first along Preston Corridor (SH 289), which runs through the city boundary, for two main reasons. First, the continual development trend along Preston Corridor in …

Administrative Issues Journal

The featured research uses theory-building case study to understand the experiences of junior faculty in a mentoring program. Creating A Farmersville Treasure: The City Of Farmersville Personnel Policy Manual Project, Sarah Garrett, Sara Harris, Greg Hutson, Joan Hill-Love, Chris Moore, Giovanni Vaquerano

Public Administration Capstone Reports - Archive

The objective of this project was to produce an updated municipal personnel policy manual that was clear, precise and ready for the City's review and approval. This was done by evaluating and updating current policies and procedures already in place, assimilating past auditor recommendations to remedy recognized deficiencies, incorporating industry "best practices" already in existence, researching other small to medium sized municipalities' policy collections, and establishing new policies for effective evaluation and management of employee performance.

University Of Texas At Arlington Extensive Green Roof, David Hopman

Landscape Architecture Faculty Publications - Archive

The University of Texas at Arlington (UT-Arlington) installed the first extensive green roof in the Dallas / Fort Worth area in April of 2008. The roof was researched, designed, and is being managed by UT-Arlington associate professor and landscape architect David Hopman, ASLA. The approach to the roof is in keeping with the professional priorities of landscape architects and is not a narrowly focused scientific study such as the green roof research at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas or the ongoing studies at The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. The test roof at UT-Arlington is 100 …

Reading Fluency Measurements In Efa Fti Partner Countries : Outcomes And Improvement Prospects, Helen Abadzi

Curriculum and Instruction Faculty Publications - Archive

Students in lower-income countries often acquire limited literacy in school and often drop out illiterate. For those who stay, the problem is not detected until it is too late to intervene. Oral reading fluency tests given in the early grades can quickly and inexpensively assess student literacy. For this reason, one-minute reading studies have been popular. A search carried out in early 2010 showed that over 50 fluency studies have been conducted in various countries, and that norms have been established in the U.S., Mexico, and Chile. The studies often reported data in ways that were not easily comparable, and …

Paper Tigers: Rethinking The Relationship Between Copyright And Scholarly Publishing, Alissa Centivany Jan 2011

Paper Tigers: Rethinking The Relationship Between Copyright And Scholarly Publishing, Alissa Centivany

Michigan Telecommunications & Technology Law Review

Discontent is growing in academia over the practices of the proprietary scholarly publishing industry. Scholars and universities criticize the expensive subscription fees, restrictive access policies, and copyright assignment requirements of many journals. These practices seem fundamentally unfair given that the industries' two main inputs-articles and peer-review-are provided to it free of charge. Furthermore, while many publishers continue to enjoy substantial profit margins, many elite university libraries have been forced to triage their collections, choosing between purchasing monographs or subscribing to journals, or in some cases, doing away with "non-essential" materials altogether. The situation is even more dire for non-elite schools, …
