Who Publishes In Top-Tier Library Science Journals? An Analysis By Faculty Status And Tenure, Quinn Galbraith, Elizabeth Smart, Sara D. Smith, Megan Reed
Faculty Publications
This study analyzes the status and background of authors publishing in high-impact library science journals. Twenty-three high-impact journals were selected in this study by both quantitative and qualitative measures, while the analysis of author background focuses on whether the author holds a faculty status position with a tenure track. This study finds that 76% of academic librarians publishing in top-tier library science journals have faculty status.

Evaluation Of Faculty : Are Medical Students And Faculty On The Same Page?, Elhadi Aburawi, Michelle Mclean, Sami
Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
Objectives: Student evaluation of individual teachers is important in the quality improvement cycle. The aim of this study was to explore medical student and faculty perceptions of teacher evaluation in the light of dwindling participation in online evaluations. Methods: This study was conducted at the United Arab Emirates University College of Medicine & Health Sciences between September 2010 and June 2011. A 21-item questionnaire was used to investigate learner and faculty perceptions of teacher evaluation in terms of purpose, etiquette, confidentiality and outcome on a five-point Likert scale. Results: The questionnaire was completed by 54% of faculty and 23% of …

A Metapopulation Model For Sylvatic T. Cruzi Transmission With Vector Migration, Christopher Kribs, Britnee Crawford
Mathematics Faculty Publications - Archive
This study presents a metapopulation model for the sylvatic transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas' disease, across multiple geographical regions and multiple overlapping host-vector transmission cycles. Classical qualitative analysis of the model and several submodels focuses on the parasite's basic reproductive number, illustrating how vector migration across patches and multiple transmission routes to hosts (including vertical transmission) determine the infection's persistence in each cycle. Numerical results focus on trends in endemic [equilibrium] persistence levels as functions of vector migration rates, and highlight the significance of the different epidemiological characteristics of transmission in each of the three regions.

What happens when you have a website that needs a facelift and you want to evolve the contents into a digital humanities project? What makes it different? This poster session explores a process we are attempting at the University of Texas @ Arlington Libraries. Taking an amazing collection of US-Mexico War materials in our Special Collections, harnessing high collaboration with our Center for Greater Southwestern Studies, and re-imagining a website has been a six month process that tapped into an academic partnership and internal re-organization. We invite you to examine our painful process that used a project with no documentation, …

Texas Documents: What Are They Good For?, Jeff Downing, Krystal E. Schenk
UTA Libraries Staff Publications - Archive
Although some people might have thought to use these documents as fuel to keep warm this past winter, UT Arlington Libraries has decided to digitize a core collection of legacy documents produced by Texas state agencies. What seemed like a straightforward project (select documents, scan and upload to our institutional repository) quickly became a complex project. Problems included creating a comprehensive list of our state document holdings, mapping titles and agencies to degree programs, and deciding which titles were candidates for scan to destroy vs. scan to retain, and how to use existing metadata from our catalog to populate the …

This study was conducted to evaluate the capability of detecting prostate cancer (PCa) using auto-fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy (AFLS) and light reflectance spectroscopy (LRS). AFLS used excitation at 447 nm with four emission wavelengths (532, 562, 632, and 684 nm), where their lifetimes and weights were analyzed using a double exponent model. LRS was measured between 500 and 840 nm and analyzed by a quantitative model to determine hemoglobin concentrations and light scattering. Both AFLS and LRS were taken on n = 724 distinct locations from both prostate capsular (nc = 185) and parenchymal (np = 539) tissues, including PCa tissue, …

This examines active transportation as it relates to accessibility, opportunity, and ultimately equity for residents in disadvantaged communities in the City of Arlington, Texas. Adding to the growing discussion and research surrounding active transportation, the accessibility measures presented contribute an approach to identifying disadvantaged communities in a city and quantifying the opportunities accessible by foot and bike in these communities. The research utilized a replicable index for identifying disadvantaged neighborhoods and a method for quantifying the number of opportunities that can be accessible when pedestrian and bicycle facilities are present. The research and analysis shows that individuals lacking access to …
Stress Levels In Tenure-Track And Recently Tenured Faculty Members In Selected Institutions Of Higher Education In Northeast Tennessee, Amanda R. Carr
Stress Levels In Tenure-Track And Recently Tenured Faculty Members In Selected Institutions Of Higher Education In Northeast Tennessee, Amanda R. Carr
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this quantitative study was to compare the stress, strain, and coping levels between pretenured faculty and recently tenured faculty in institutions of higher education in Northeast Tennessee. Aging faculty population combined with talented people leaving the area is common in rural parts of the United States. There is a need to better understand the occupational factors within the faculty roles in order to better recruit and retain faculty in this region.
Four different institutions of higher education in Northeast Tennessee, producing 92 responses, participated in this study. The Occupational Stress Inventory – Revised (Osipow, 1998) was used …

How can staff collaborate on digital projects when they are dispersed throughout the library? This is the challenge the new Digital Creations department was faced with after a library wide reorganization in the summer of 2013. In 2011, the UT Arlington Libraries began mining faculty CVs for articles that we could add to our local institutional repository. After the re-organization the staff previously working on this project were now scattered between three departments. By leveraging the project management features of the newly adopted tool SharePoint, we are able to distribute the work of this project across staff, and departments. In …

Measuring Support For Climate Change Research At The University Of Richmond, Adam Forrer, Brianna Miller, Hunterr Payeur
Environmental Studies Senior Seminar Projects
This study investigated the possibility of hiring new faculty at the University of Richmond whose area of expertise incorporates climate change. The study used a survey of Richmond students to gauge interest in academic areas such as climate change classes and research with faculty. In depth interviews with faculty members from various departments within the University were also conducted. Further research showed that although 12 of the top 25 liberal arts schools in the United States offered two or more classes specifically on the issue of climate change, the University of Richmond intermittently offers one climate change class, located in …
