Leading Hispanic Serving Community Colleges: Latinx Faculty Perceptions About The Aacc Competencies, Sanjuanita Chavira Scott

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations

Latinx students are likely to enter postsecondary education at a community college. This phenomenon has led to the increase in community colleges being designated as Hispanic Serving Institutions. The designation of Hispanic Serving is not driven by mission, but rather by number of enrolled students who identify as Latinx. This preliminary descriptive study examined the perceptions of faculty at four Hispanic Serving community colleges in Texas regarding their proficiency on leadership competencies for faculty, whether there were differences in the perceptions of Latinx and non-Latinx faculty members, and whether certain leadership competencies influence faculty members’ decisions to pursue leadership opportunities. …

Reflections From The Field: Discovering International Memphis, Rebecca Lauck Cleary

Written by Simone Delerme When I want to feel better, I drive down Summer Avenue. There I can see the past, present and future diversity and humanity of Memphis. I discovered Summer Avenue -- a commercial district in Memphis, Tennessee -- while working on an oral history project in 2016. I was interviewing Latino restaurant owners, workers, and other residents to document their experiences living and working in the Mid-South. During this project I became familiar with a concentration of Latino-owned restaurants on Summer Avenue. I began patronizing these businesses, sampling different types of Venezuelan, Colombian, and Mexican cuisine.

Mavs Open Press Open Educational Resources - Archive

Over time students enrolled in ANTH 2339: Introduction to Archaeology have informally commented on the required course materials, often citing the expense of the book particularly coupled with the expenses of all the books students needed to buy for all their classes each semester. Even when using an older edition textbook to reduce cost, it became clear that most students in the course were not purchasing the textbook. In Summer 2019, the course was approved for the Core Curriculum at UTA. Introduction to Archaeology now fulfills a Social and Behavioral Sciences requirement for all UTA students. Its adoption into the …
