Perceptions Of Community Pharmacists, Patent And Proprietary Medicine Vendors, And Their Clients Regarding Quality Of Family Planning Services: The Integrate Project, The Integrate Project
Perceptions Of Community Pharmacists, Patent And Proprietary Medicine Vendors, And Their Clients Regarding Quality Of Family Planning Services: The Integrate Project, The Integrate Project
Reproductive Health
The IntegratE Project is a four-year initiative (2017–21) implemented by the Population Council and partners that seeks to increase access to contraceptive methods by involving the private sector (community pharmacists [CPs] and patent and proprietary medicine vendors [PPMVs]) in family planning (FP) service delivery in Lagos and Kaduna States, Nigeria. The project aims to establish a regulatory system with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria to ensure that CPs and PPMVs provide quality FP services, comply with FP regulations, and report service statistics to the Health Information Management System (HMIS). To achieve this, the project is implementing: a pilot three-tiered accreditation …
Documenting The Costs Of Social Behavior Change Interventions For Health In Low- And Middle-Income Countries, Avenir Health
Documenting The Costs Of Social Behavior Change Interventions For Health In Low- And Middle-Income Countries, Avenir Health
Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Choices
Understanding the costs associated with social and behavior change (SBC) interventions for health is critical for budgeting, price setting, program planning, and economic analysis. Breakthrough RESEARCH performed a literature review and analysis to identify, classify, and synthesize published costs associated with SBC programming in low- and middle-income countries.

The Myanmar Shwe: Empowering Law Students, Teachers, And The Community Through Clinical Education And The Rule Of Law, Stephen Rosembaum, Britane Hubbard, Kaylee Sharp-Bauer, David Tushaus
Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies
Myanmar's attorneys, judges, law officers, and law teachers are slowly emerging from the isolated world they inhabited during decades of military authoritarianism. Almost a decade ago, the country triumphantly burst into an era of "disciplined" democracy under the leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi, de facto head of state. Yet, the legal education system continues to be marked by hierarchical and bureaucratic practices, infrastructural and pedagogical neglect, and low confidence in the formal justice sector. The authors-two American law professors and practitioners and two students-discuss the direction of legal education in Southeast Asia and how clinical legal education (CLE) methodologies …
Women's Perceptions On The Effects Of Covid-19 On Access And Use Of Private Sector Family Planning Services In Nigeria: The Integrate Project, The Integrate Project
Women's Perceptions On The Effects Of Covid-19 On Access And Use Of Private Sector Family Planning Services In Nigeria: The Integrate Project, The Integrate Project
Reproductive Health
In Nigeria, Community Pharmacists (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) are the first point of care for many common illnesses. Although CPs and PPMVs are not formally recognized as family planning (FP) service providers, 22% of modern contraceptive users report receiving their last method from a PPMV and 12% from a private pharmacy. PPMVs are popular for FP because of their widespread availability, consistent drug stocks, extended hours, personable interactions, and lack of separate fees for consultations. As in many places, the COVID-19 pandemic poses unprecedented challenges to health services in Nigeria. By limiting person-to-person contact, especially during …

Investing In Social And Behavior Change Is Cost-Effective For Improving Malaria Behaviors In Côte D’Ivoire, Breakthrough Research
Investing In Social And Behavior Change Is Cost-Effective For Improving Malaria Behaviors In Côte D’Ivoire, Breakthrough Research
Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Choices
Social and behavior change (SBC) interventions are considered an essential part of malaria prevention and treatment interventions, yet gaps in information on the cost and impact of SBC mean decisionmakers have underappreciated the value of SBC for contributing to improved health outcomes. To address this issue, Breakthrough RESEARCH has leveraged evidence from 112 studies on the impact of SBC interventions on malaria health behaviors and 70 studies on general SBC intervention costs to model the cost-effectiveness of SBC programming for malaria in the Business Case for Investing in Social and Behavior Change for Malaria.
Breakthrough Research—Social And Behavior Change Costing Community Of Practice Series Brief #2: Understanding The Costs Of Sbc Social Media Interventions, Breakthrough Research
Breakthrough Research—Social And Behavior Change Costing Community Of Practice Series Brief #2: Understanding The Costs Of Sbc Social Media Interventions, Breakthrough Research
Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Choices
While the use of social media for social and behavior change (SBC) has grown, there is limited evidence on the costs of these types of interventions. In a recent literature review, no peer reviewed studies on the costs of SBC via social media interventions in low- and middle-income countries were identified. To help address this gap, this brief identifies key considerations for costing SBC via social media, given the unique nature of social media platforms, and provides an applied example from the Merci Mon Héros (Thank You, My Hero) project, a youth-led multi-media campaign in Francophone West Africa, funded by …

Investing In Social And Behavior Change Is Cost-Effective For Improving Malaria Behaviors In Tanzania, Breakthrough Research
Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Choices
The Breakthrough RESEARCH business case for investing in social and behavior change (SBC) for malaria modeled SBC cost-effectiveness of malaria SBC in Tanzania by combining evidence on the cost and effectiveness of SBC for malaria-related health behaviors with country-specific data on the current malaria context and an estimated five-year investment scenario based on national planning and implementation reports from the United States Agency for International Development and the Global Fund. This brief provides a summary of the findings.

Operationalized Indicators: Integrating Community Health Worker And Client Views To Assess Community Health Systems, Frontline Health Project
Reproductive Health
This guide is intended for policy makers, program managers, and implementers to use in meaningfully integrating community health worker (CHW) and community perspectives when assessing community health system performance and tracking improvements over time. It complements the portfolio of existing global measurement tools that inform country community health monitoring and evaluation frameworks and support localized decision-making. The guide recommends considering application and integration of a brief and full sets of indicators. The brief set includes 20 indicators (13 at CHW level and 7 at community member/client level) while the longer set includes 30 indicators (19 at CHW level, 11 at …
Hearing From Men In South Africa: Shifts In Hiv Risk And Service Uptake—Findings From Dreams Implementation Science Research, Population Council
Hearing From Men In South Africa: Shifts In Hiv Risk And Service Uptake—Findings From Dreams Implementation Science Research, Population Council
HIV and AIDS
HIV prevention efforts across sub-Saharan Africa are increasingly focused on engaging men, for their own health and that of their partners and families. We examined whether and how HIV risk and protective factors are changing among men in Durban, South Africa—a country with a substantial HIV burden. The study is part of the Population Council’s implementation science research portfolio on the DREAMS Partnership, a large-scale initiative to reduce new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women and their partners.

HIV and AIDS
HIV prevention efforts across sub-Saharan Africa are increasingly focused on engaging men, for their own health and that of their partners and families. We examined whether and how HIV risk and protective factors are changing among men in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland)—a country with a substantial HIV burden. The study is part of the Population Council’s implementation science research portfolio on the DREAMS Partnership1, a large-scale initiative to reduce new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their partners.
