Understanding The School Experience Of Recent Lgbtq+ Graduates In The Dominican Republic’S Education System, Rossina Matos
Understanding The School Experience Of Recent Lgbtq+ Graduates In The Dominican Republic’S Education System, Rossina Matos
Dissertations
Studies show that, in general, schools fall short when it comes to serving LGBTQ+ students, sometimes even ignoring the situations regarding bullying, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism that arise. The detrimental effects of repressive, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, and other marginalizing school environments on LGBTQ+ students are well-documented in the research. However, the limited research available on the school experiences of LGBTQ+ students in Dominican K-12 schools suggests the country could benefit from examining the breadth and depth of the reality of LGBTQ+ students in its schools.
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experience of …
The Importance Of Business Plan Proficiency To Business School Graduates, Madeline Colclasure
The Importance Of Business Plan Proficiency To Business School Graduates, Madeline Colclasure
Senior Honors Theses
Small businesses are one of the largest groups of employers in the United States. Success of these businesses is, therefore, very important to the economy at large. Entrepreneurs who write business plans, in general, receive more funding from third parties such as banks and venture capital firms and are more likely to be successful. Entrepreneurs who receive a business education and have the support of a mentor are also more likely to be successful in the long term. Incorporating business planning, and activities such as business plan competitions and building incubators on campus, enhance classroom learning.

Iskay Simipi Yachay: El Papel De La Educación Intercultural Bilingüe En La Preservación Y Valoración De La Lengua Quechua En Perú, Tori Wiese
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Primary Teachers’ Decisions For Selecting Multicultural Classroom Read Alouds, Jennifer Lemke
Primary Teachers’ Decisions For Selecting Multicultural Classroom Read Alouds, Jennifer Lemke
Student Work
As the diversity amongst the student population in schools increase, it is important that teachers include literature that contain a variety of settings and themes that allow students to explore the diverse perspectives and cultures that surround them. Research has shown that including literature that reflects the diverse experiences of students not only increases individual student’s self-esteem and confidence, but the respect and empathy for other cultures. Therefore, supporting the need for teachers to be critical and intentional in the titles they select to read aloud is important. This phenomenographic research study identifies factors that influence how primary teachers in …

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
The main tendencies, prospects, and complexity of reforming confessional, educational establishments in Ukraine have been systematized and substantiated here. Based on statistics, their quantitative and qualitative characteristics are being examined. Their evolution has been traced from the final years of the Soviet Union to recent days. Currently there are 204 establishments of this kind operating in Ukraine. Due to their large number, they are mostly small. Most of them have dozens of students studying there. Usually, they lack complete and qualified teaching staff and adequate facilities. Orthodox, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, and representatives of other denominations get theological education there. …
Contraceptive Education In South Carolina Women's Jails, Sarah B. Johnson
Contraceptive Education In South Carolina Women's Jails, Sarah B. Johnson
Senior Theses
Women in jail, which is currently a growing population, are at risk of unplanned pregnancy due to their potential exposure to alcohol and drug use, history of living in an abusive environment, and potential practice of prostitution(Clarke et al., 2012; Clarke et al., 2006; Kelly, 2012). The majority of female inmates are between the ages of 17-30, the peak reproductive age, which increases the importance of jails providing education to improve inmates’ reproductive health (Hale et al., 2009). Many females arrested will be released from jail back into society, making jails an opportune place to provide information to improve the …
Honest Sex Education Advocacy, Kyleigh Richard
Honest Sex Education Advocacy, Kyleigh Richard
Senior Honors Projects
It is imperative that children and teens receive honest and well researched information when they are being taught sex education, particularly so they learn to care about their sexual health and protect their own bodies.
In order to learn where there are gaps or insufficiencies in this sex education in the state of Rhode Island, twenty superintendents from public schools across the state were contacted by email and phone and asked to share their curriculum and resources. Of the eight that supplied their school curriculums, I found three points I felt were deficient in sex education: (1) human anatomy is …

How State-Level Performance-Based Funding Policies Affect Student Services Departments, Christa Rohan
Education Policy and Leadership Theses and Dissertations
For public, state institutions that are subject to state-wide, performance-based funding models, being held accountable to meet metrics set by the state affects the work of student services professionals. The state’s goals for an institution can misalign with the goals of the institution and the goals that those who work there have for themselves and their students. The purpose of this project is to explore how the effects of being measured changes the work of student services professionals. Through this qualitative study including 15 interviews with student services professionals who engage with students at a four-year public institution that is …
Leading Rural Nurse Academic Progression, Cynthia Jean Larsen
Leading Rural Nurse Academic Progression, Cynthia Jean Larsen
Dissertations (1934 -)
Higher levels of nurse education have been associated with improved patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs. Members of rural populations are vulnerable, having poorer outcomes than urban inhabitants on a number of health indicators. Rural nurses are more likely than urban nurses to enter practice with associates degrees. Hence, academic progression is important for rural nurses and for the health of rural patients and communities. Rural nurse leaders work to promote the academic progression of rural nurses. Grounded theory methodology was used in this study to describe the concerns of and the actions taken by nurse leaders in the promotion …
Tipping The Balance On Winter Deicing Impacts: Education Is The Key, Michael E. Dietz
Tipping The Balance On Winter Deicing Impacts: Education Is The Key, Michael E. Dietz
Journal of Extension
Winter deicing results in substantial export of road salts to fresh waters and causes numerous ecological problems. Extension faculty and other educators at the University of Connecticut implemented New Hampshire's Green SnowPro program, a voluntary training program for salt applicators. University of Connecticut facilities staff applied 3,479 fewer metric tons of salt to campus in the 2 years after the educational training, equating to a cost savings of $459,251. Substantial environmental and economic benefits can be realized in northern climates if Extension and other educators rally behind this program.
