The Concept Of Education In The Light Of The Theology Of D. Martin Luther, Won Yong Ji

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

This thesis is a study of the theological implications of Luther’s emphasis on “education” and an examination of the contributions if any, which Luther made to education, eventually derived from such an emphasis, to his subsequent generations. Its purpose is to survey briefly his theology in order to determine the theological significance or implications of his underlying pedagogical principles and practices. “What is Luther‘s view on education?” is the final goal of this study.

This study should prove to be a value to Lutheran educators in particular in that attempts to bring Lutheran educational practices into harmony with the educational …

When canvassing for prospects, the principal of a Lutheran day school in Chicago would at times find Negroes who were desirous of enrolling their children. And some Lutheran Negro parents of a neighboring Lutheran parish requested that their children be enrolled. According to the principal, however, all Negro children were refused enrollment. Repeatedly he brought the matter to the throne of God in prayer. He tried with persistency to get the school authorities to change their policy of racial exclusiveness. A report about a seven year project between Columbia College, Chicago and La Asociacion Interamericana de Radio Difusion, Telesistema Mexicana, S.A., Radio Programs de Mexico, y La Asociacion Nacional de Locutores to develop a 'practical curricula in arts and techniques of mass-communication" in Mexico City. Columbia College faculty provided training to Latin American television executives and helped to develop a two-year curriculum, housed originally at Abraham Gonzalez 49, Mexico City 1, D.F., Mexico.
