It was the purpose of this study to survey consultants involved in reading programs in the public schools in the state of Washington in an effort to obtain factual data on their level of preparation in reading. These consultants were also asked to indicate the training and qualifications they felt necessary for the positions they hold. It is the purpose of this study to administer five commonly used tests and evaluate them according to ease of administration and the value of the information received. Because this study is to be essentially exploratory in nature, and not experimental, the evaluation of the tests will be largely subjective and will attempt to compare factors involving the administration of the tests to the child, the check sheets used to record information, and the adequacy of the information resulting from the administration of the various tests.

Marks offer a way of satisfying the urge to excel and are, therefore, considered to be extremely important to many educators. Other educators believe that the quest for commendable marks tends to distract attention from the true goal, and thus becomes an impediment to learning. Regardless of the conflicting attitudes, educators should establish a marking system which reflects awareness of the best grading principles and represents a wise selection of determining basic factors. Marks should never be permitted to become the all-important goal, and educators cannot expect a marking system to overcome uninspired teaching. The mark should reflect the worth …

The purposes of the study were to determine the level of priority of importance of administrative problem areas and specific problem items preventing the implementation of special programs for the educable mentally retarded in Utah. The study was conducted using a survey of twenty-seven school districts in the state of Utah lacking a sequential program for the educable mentally retarded in grades one through six.

A questionnaire was sent to 184 selected respondents, including school board chairmen, superintendents, and elementary principals. Responses were received from 92 percent of the original selection. The respondent was asked to rank each of the …
