A Survey Of The Integration Of Exceptional Children In Regular Classrooms, Catherine A. Greene Jun 1971

A Survey Of The Integration Of Exceptional Children In Regular Classrooms, Catherine A. Greene

All Master's Theses

Educational practice in the past has been to segregate exceptional children by placing them in self-contained special education classrooms. Recently, however, this method has been questioned by leading special educators. Proponents of segregation of exceptional children admit to inadequacies in the present situation, but they argue that such inadequacies can be remedied and do not justify placing exceptional children in regular classrooms. Proponents of integration maintain that exceptional children live in a heterogeneous world and as adults will live and work in a heterogeneous world; therefore, these children should have a school setting that is like the world in which …

A Follow-Up Study Of University Of Nebraska At Omaha Students Who Met Secondary Level Teacher Certification Requirements 1964 Rhrough 1969, Virginia Correa Jones

Student Work

An educational institution must continually attempt to keep abreast of the demands of society. Underlying causes of these societal demands of the present generation include scientific and technological advances, further study into the behavioral sciences, rapid urbanization, newer concepts of living, and relative affluence amid continued disparities among social classes. Although the schools are not wholly responsible for American social reform, they unmistakably have been handed, presently and historically, a large portion of the assignment. Such a responsibility on the part of the school implies the need for a responsible and relevant program of studies. Thus, a systematic, alert, and …

A Reading Study Skills Course For A Community College, La Ree C. Rasmussen

All Master's Theses

The ability to read is no longer limited to the literal meaning of the word, but is increasingly dependent upon the reader's ability to recognize the style of writing, so that he knows whether to apply denotative or connotative meanings to what he is reading. Because reading needs have changed and will continue to change as rapidly as our culture changes, it is necessary to continuously develop and improve reading skills. The purpose of this study is to: (1) enumerate the reading study skills needed by college students, (2) describe the details of a reading study skills program, (3) and …

A Follow-Up Study Of The Office Administration Cooperative Work Experience Enrollees At Big Bend Community College For The School Years 1964-65 To 1967-68, Mary Margaret Liebermann

All Master's Theses

Cooperative Work Programs of many types exist at different educational levels in the United States. Specifically, the Cooperative Work Programs in Office Administration have undergone a rapid increase in this country over the last decade. The national expansion of the two-year college system has added greatly to this growth as has the passage of the Vocational Act of 1963 and the Amendments of the Act in 1968. However, the lack of studies regarding the effectiveness of these programs, particularly at the two-year college level, indicates that an information and measurement gap exists in cooperative program information. Both college administrators and …

The Effects Of Seating Position And Program Content On Student Learning While Watching Instructional Television, Patricia L. Kent

Student Work

People share a common concern about the education of children. The goal is to create an environment that will maximize learning, an environment where all distracting elements are eliminated. It is generally agreed that the physical conditions of a classroom have a great effect on learning. The student must be able to see and to hear. Lighting, acoustics, ventilation, furnishings, and room color are just a few of the many things that can influence the students' learning. These are important factors not only when the teaching image in in the form of a person in the room, but also when …

A Study Of Project Head Start Reading Readiness Test Scores Compared With Students Not Attending Head Start In Title I Areas Of The Omaha Public School District, Beatrice A. Harrison Mar 1971

A Study Of Project Head Start Reading Readiness Test Scores Compared With Students Not Attending Head Start In Title I Areas Of The Omaha Public School District, Beatrice A. Harrison

Student Work

Anticipating the needs of pre-school children in Title I Areas in Omaha, Project Head Start, a federal program under the supervision of the Office of Economic Opportunity, was introduced in the summer of 1965. This project was developed as a result of the interest in a national program to enable impoverished areas to function successfully in school. The program was based on the theory that a positive exposure to a formal educational setting prior to entrance into the school system would provide some compensatory education benefits which might lead to a more effective elementary school experience.

A Curriculum Guide For Senior High School Physical Education In The Council Bluffs Community School District, Conrad W. Rasmussen Feb 1971

A Curriculum Guide For Senior High School Physical Education In The Council Bluffs Community School District, Conrad W. Rasmussen

Student Work

It is the intention of this physical education curriculum guide to provide a meaningful program for the senior high students of the Council Bluffs Community High Schools. Each teacher should have the initiative and imagination to develop individual lesson plans and teaching methods. However, it has become obvious that a need for an established course outline is necessary to provide a maximum program in Physical Education for the Council Bluffs High School student. We want to eliminate the possibility that our physical education program could-be controlled by individual strengths or weaknesses. It is imperative that we develop a program that …
