Biography And The Curriculum, Daniel R. Denicola
Biography And The Curriculum, Daniel R. Denicola
Philosophy Faculty Publications
In recent years many critics have written of the pervasive dehumanization and possible rehumanization of education. Plighting their troth to the autonomy and integrity of the human person, these commentators scour the educational landscape in search of policies and practices that depersonalize. They have often attacked teaching methods and the social and institutional situation in which teaching is undertaken; a few errant knights have even assailed the enterprise of teaching itself. Less often has curriculum content been questioned, and when it has been, the critics were usually concerned about "irrelevance." There is, however, another way in which the curriculum is …
The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
One of the tasks of the adult school administrator is that of planning the program to be offered to the public. Is it well balanced academic and vocational areas; does it satisfy the needs of the home-maker, the student, the apprentice; does it offer something for each to fulfill his educational needs? These and a number of other questions must be answered before an adult school program will satisfy the educational needs of the adult community it is to serve. Damon stated it well when he wrote that: Although adult education is assuming a more important place in the public …

The Home Manager's Education Level As Related To Perception Of Locus Of Control, Joyce Marie Lundell
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The relationship of level of education to degree of "internality" in home managers was investigated. Level of education was defined as the number of years of formal education completed. The degree of "internality" was defined as a score on Rotter's I-E Scale.
The instruments used were a background questionnaire and Rotter's I-E Scale.
The background questionnaire and the I-E Scale were administered to 163 home managers from Ogden, Utah, who were members of selected women's church affiliated organizations.
Two hypotheses were formulated and tested:
1. Higher level of formal education will be correlated with lower I-E Scale scores for home …

Defining And Attaining Equal Educational Opportunity In A Pluralistic Society, Ernest Q. Campbell
Defining And Attaining Equal Educational Opportunity In A Pluralistic Society, Ernest Q. Campbell
Vanderbilt Law Review
We in America have never made peace with the concept of pluralism. As a nation, we are fundamentally committed to the ideal of "equal opportunity"; yet, despite our presumably concomitant dedication to the principle that society should accommodate diverse values and goals,we have not conceptualized any means of determining whether equality of opportunity exists except by measuring people on the same scale. We have an appropriate rhetoric for describing equal opportunity--self-actualization, through which each person develops to the fullest extent in those directions that he or she wishes--but we have no institutionalized standards for determining whether realization of potential has …

In recent years written statements of official school board policies have played an important role in the operation of public school systems. Relationship between boards of education and administrators, teachers, and non-certified personnel have been rapidly changing and have brought about the need for formal Board Policy Manuals rather than the informal, unwritten policy statements which had prevailed until recent years.

This interview was conducted by Prof. Donald Raichle in preparation for his book From a Normal Beginning: the Origins of Kean College of New Jersey, printed in 1980. It’s a transcript between Guy V. Bruce and Raichle.
Guy Bruce was a chairman of the Science Department at New Jersey State Normal School/Teachers College (a two-year teaching program, that became Newark State College, and then eventually Kean) from 1932-1951. He greatly improved the science education at the school, and one of the many ways he was recognized for this was a building named after him: "Bruce Hall".
In this book, Raichle …
