The Effects Of Two Instructional Treatments On Increasing Computational Skill In Subtraction With Regrouping Of Grade Three Students, Ruth Kruger Duncan
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated two treatments in teaching subtraction of two-digit numbers with regrouping, and the effects of these treatments on ninety-four third-grade students. The first treatment named base-blocks (BB), consisted of the manipulation of ones and tens blocks to develop an understanding of the decomposition algorithm. The second treatment, named expanded notation (EN), consisted of the explanation of the decomposition algorithm using expanded numbers and the associative property of addition. Measures were obtained for computational skill and retention of that skill. Two teachers each taught both treatments to four comparable groups. There was a three-week preparation phase for the teachers …

A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary
A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary
All Master's Theses
Newspapers and school districts form a tentative partnership in the dissemination of education news. Subjects preferred by readers have not been reflected in actual education news coverage. Emphasis on utility information at the expense of in-depth writing about what is going on in public education has been standard practice. Content analysis shows that while quantity of education news seems reasonable, the quality of that news fails to transmit to readers the substance of what teachers and children are accomplishing in the public schools.

Social changes have created stresses that have resulted in a high percentage of emotional and psychological illnesses. As a result of the impersonal nature of modern technological medicine and the need for emotional and psychological guidance, the American public has turned recently toward alternate methods of healing. In old and medieval Iran, customs and religious laws were the prevailing systems that influenced individual and group behavior. They also dictated educational policy. When mosques were built under the Muslim faith they became the chief centers of schooling. This type of …

The Language Of 5 1/2-Year-Old Children From Homes Where Macedonian, Vietnamese And An Aboriginal Tribal Language Are Used As The Language Of The Home, A. L. Mcgregor
Research outputs pre 2011
Throughout the world migration patterns and changing attitudes towards education and other cultures have led over the past three or four decades to a remarkable growth in the learning of second or foreign languages. Within this area the learning of English by speakers of other languages takes up the largest numbers and is to be found in every part of the globe.
Nevertheless to date comparatively little is known of processes and patterns in second language development. Evidence on phonological and semantic development is exceedingly skimpy. Hernandez (in Ervin-Tripp 1970), Malmberg (1945), Wode (1976) and Ervin-Tripp (1974) have examined the …
