At one time, each of these tools was considered an innovation, then a trend and finally a near requirement for teaching.

School districts could receive program funds from the federal government by providing evidence that procedures had been established to ensure parental rights for participation in assessment, placement and reassessment of their handicapped child.

In this paper, three areas have been examined, social stability, education and international corporation. Restrictions have been placed to simplify the discussion. The pros and cons of modernization, as well as the effects on each other, are studied.

Getting It Together In Chevak A Case Study Of A Youth Organization In A Rural Alaskan Village, G. Williamson Mcdiarmid

ISER Reports

The Chevak Village Youth Solution (CVYA) was developed in a rural Eskimo village (population 520) both to educate youth and to integrate them into functional roles in the community. CVYA is an entirely indigenous youth organization, created and managed by the youth and young adults of the village. It has evolved, in part, as a response to the problems of youth in the village. Until the Hootch Decree in 1976, adolescents left villages during their teenage years to attend boarding schools either in Alaska or in the lower 48. With the creation of village high schools, communities had to understand …

Assessing Children's Opinions About Mainstreamed Handicapped Students, Debra Lavoi Mackie May 1982

Assessing Children's Opinions About Mainstreamed Handicapped Students, Debra Lavoi Mackie

Student Work

John Dewey advocated that each child was". . . entitled to equal opportunity of development of his own capacities, be they large or small in range . . ." (Dewey, 1937). Certainly equal educational opportunities have advanced in the time since 1937, but for the handi-capped, the opportunities were not mandatory on a national level until the United States Congress passed Public Law 94-142 in 1975.

The Physiological And Physical Effects Of A Seven Week Summer Wrestling Camp On Experienced Prepubescent Wrestlers, Wade Hoyt Thomson May 1982

The Physiological And Physical Effects Of A Seven Week Summer Wrestling Camp On Experienced Prepubescent Wrestlers, Wade Hoyt Thomson

Student Work

Participation by children in competitive sports programs has increased considerably within the past 20 years, in part because of the increased number of competitive sports programs available for children. Furthermore, children are becoming increasingly involved at younger ages. Freqently, these programs are very physical, and actively competitive with little consideration given to how the children may respond or adapt to the strenuous exercise. It is tacitly assumed that children sports participants will experience the same physiological and physical benefits as would adult participants.

The Congruence Of A Principal's First Year Experience With A Developmental Leadership Model, Vicki Mazzotta May 1982

The Congruence Of A Principal's First Year Experience With A Developmental Leadership Model, Vicki Mazzotta

Student Work

The induction of an elementary principal to an initial position is a total process. More often than not, the principal becomes responsible for an elementary school without benefit of an internship or serving as an assistant principal. There is little written about the initial year in the position. The most comprehensive description of the principal is they study "The Man in the Principal's Office" by Harry Wolcott. A review of this literature reveals a complex if not confounding picture of the position.

Assessing The Impact Of A Field Trip Training Package Using Creative Talents In Planning And Executing A Field Trip, Susan E. Spangler

Student Work

Making use of community resources in the instruction of social studies is an accepted practice in the elementary school (Zellers, 1981). Even though this is an accepted practice, teachers with many different subjects to teach, often see the field trip as a "free day" or a time when someone else takes over the tutelage of their class (O'Toole, 1981). For those teachers who wish to take advantage of the field trip, there is not much help available. Jack Mason, in an annotated bibliography of field trip research, wrote that writers often notice a lack of reports about field trips when …
