The Status Of Keyboard Harmony In Nasm-Approved Colleges In The Southeastern United States (Class Piano, Functional Skills)., Dona Sanders Lusted
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine the status of keyboard harmony in NASM-Approved colleges and universities in the eleven states in the Southern Division of MENC. Most music educators recognize the importance of keyboard harmony in the college music curriculum. However, much controversy appears to exist as to the position keyboard harmony should occupy at the college level. Music educators disagree as to whether keyboard harmony should be taught in the theory class, piano class, and/or as a separate course. Questionnaires were mailed to the 124 schools which met the above delimitations, of which 70 percent were usable …

Effects Of Comparison/Contrast Writing Instruction On The Reading Comprehension Of Tenth-Grade Students, Catherine Anne Baker
Effects Of Comparison/Contrast Writing Instruction On The Reading Comprehension Of Tenth-Grade Students, Catherine Anne Baker
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the influence of writing instruction on the reading comprehension of tenth-grade students. Although research has shown that instruction in the recognition of text structure can increase reading comprehension significantly and although it has been assumed that improvement in writing skill would improve reading skill as well, there has been little empirical research concerned with the actual influence of writing instruction. Thus, this study combined both ideas by attempting to determine the effect of writing instruction in text structure on reading comprehension. This study employed eight classes of tenth-grade students taught by four teachers in two high schools. …

The Historical Development Of Higher Education In Bermuda, Inez E. Browne-Dixon
Dissertations
Phenomenal, pervasive, and fundamental change characterize the 1980s, often threatening to lead to entropy and decay. Innovative ways must be found to maintain equilibrium amidst disorienting world events. The search to find a more meaningful experience has moved education to the center of social and cultural concern and created renewed interest in the foundations of educational practice.
Problem. A diligent search revealed a great lack of systematic studies on the development of higher education in Bermuda. There is a need to select data on higher education and present them in a comprehensible format. This study sought to fill that need. …

The Education Of Children With Specific Reading Disabilities In Western Australia : Report To The Minister For Education, Western Australian Council For Special Education
Research outputs pre 2011
There are few developmental tasks in a child's life more important than learning to read. There are not many matters which concern parents and teachers more than whether or not a child makes satisfactory progress in learning to read. Parents and teachers are aware that young children soon realize whether or not they are progressing in much the same way as the rest of their peer group. As children move towards the end of primary school and enter secondary school, reading remains a fundamental skill on which so much other learning depends...

Selected Sources Of Funding For The Third World Educational Projects, Joseph M. Ndisya
All Master's Theses
A hundred philanthropic foundations were surveyed with an aim to find out their attitudes toward the educational growth in the developing countries. This was done in order to have an idea of the percentage that would reply positively that they would consider project proposals seeking funds for continuous educational growth in such countries. Of those that replied to the questionnaires, about 50% replied positively thereby agreeing that they would consider such proposals. Hence those developing countries of Latin America, Asia Minor, and Africa could seek more funds to keep their educational development growing a bit faster.

Student Work
It is appropriate at the beginning of this study on school-community relations in a small midwestern school district, that the school community be defined. Stoops defines the school community as the population the school serves. (16,460) Thus a rural population center of approximately four thousand people served by a single secondary school may be said to be a secondary school community. In a larger city school system which might include as many as a dozen or more secondary schools, each school vii 11 have its own school community made up of people it serves.

Journal of Social Theory in Art Education
Art has long been accepted as comprising a visual language that communicates cultural values and qualitative meanings through its subject matter, functions, and stylistic characteristics. However, not until this century has visual art also been considered as a language system of signs and symbols amenable to systematic verbal analysis and evaluation. Consistent with this development, in recent years art educators have increasingly proposed that art instruction include various art criticism activities. This author personally considers an interest in art criticism to be a positive development for the field of art education inasmuch as it offers a much-needed counterbalance to the …
