Is International Reciprocity Possible?, Abdel M. Agami, Karen Cascini

WCBT Faculty Publications

Even though there seems to be almost unanimous acceptance among countries that professional accountants must be educated, pass some professional examinations, and have some practical experience, the recipe for the quantity of each of the 3 ingredients varies from one country to another. To determine if international reciprocity is possible, the professional accountancy qualifications of 8 countries were surveyed: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the UK and the US.

Book Review: Exploring My Life: The Memoirs Of Felix P. Bentz, Chalice Wilkerson

Swiss American Historical Society Review

In his foreword, Felix P. Bentz explains that the impetus for writing his memoirs came from the receipt of a similar effort by a colleague in the oil business. As an international oil geologist, Bentz had the opportunity to realize his dream of traveling the world. Added as a postscript but perhaps more effective as a prologue is his credo written at the age of 30 and the beginning of his career. Bentz states his goal to live a full life roaming the globe and using his gifts to reproduce his thoughts, impressions and experiences while avoiding ignorance, intolerance and …

Dynamic Productivity, Efficiency, And Technical Innovation In Education: A Mathematical Programming Approach Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Kalyan Chakraborty, Sandeep Mohapatra

Economic Research Institute Study Papers

Despite the long-standing debate surrounding the performance of the U.S. public education system, there is an absence of comprehensive empirical evidence on this issue across different states. Initial dialogues on educational performance prescribed overall increases in expenditures for securing productivity gains. However, more recent themes emphasize the importance of productive efficiency as a key factor in securing performance increases.

This paper measures technical efficiency and total factor productivity in educational production units that utilize a multi output production technology. The technical efficiency scores are explicitly conditioned on socioeconomic and environmental influences. Particular attention is paid to the specification of varying …

Status Attainment Among Children Of Single Mothers: The Roles Of Parenting And Economics, Sarah Barfels Jan 1997

Status Attainment Among Children Of Single Mothers: The Roles Of Parenting And Economics, Sarah Barfels

Honors Papers

My analysis adds to the literature on single motherhood by trying to refine a structural equations model to use to examine the causal importance and relationships between economics and parenting in single mother families and the effect on intergenerational attainment. This work also utilizes the relatively new longitudinal data from the second wave of the National Survey of Families and Households which includes more comprehensive (measuring participation in school activities and adding indexes to previously single indicator concepts) measures of parenting practices (Thomson, Hanson, and McLahanan 1994; Astone and McLanahan 1991). Further, the role of these and economic factors are …

The Development Of A Curriculum For Early Childhood Education, Leticia Espina Castor Jan 1997

The Development Of A Curriculum For Early Childhood Education, Leticia Espina Castor

Theses Digitization Project

The purpose of this project was to design a one-year curriculum for 3 to 5 year old low-income and minority children in the Pasadena and Glendale area, with the goal of child-initiated learning. The content of the curriculum will consist of a modification of the High/Scope program, consisting of an active learning program and using a plan-do-review sequence. The proposed early childhood curriculum relies heavily on active, child-initiated learning experiences during which children plan, or express their intentions, carry out their intentions in play experiences and then reflect on their accomplishments.

Information Systems Education— A National Evaluation Of A Curriculum Model For End-User Computing Support, C Steven Hunt, Charles M. Ray, Scott Eckholdt

Journal of International Information Management

This research represents an evaluation of a curriculum model by a national sample of information systems professionals. The Curriculum Model for Organizational and End-User Information Systems (OEIS) is a guide for educators planning programs that prepare four-year college students for entry-level positions that support end-user computing. It stresses end-user information technology and human factors, business process redesign, communication, and end-user training. A national sample of Association for Systems Management members evaluated the model's sixty objectives. All sixty objectives, as measured by the aggregate rating and the mean ratings of individual objectives, were considered important. More than two-thirds of them were …

An Investigation Of The Early Factors Which Influence Women's Career Choices In Physical Science And Technology, Anneliese Payne Jan 1997

An Investigation Of The Early Factors Which Influence Women's Career Choices In Physical Science And Technology, Anneliese Payne

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The composition of the workforce has begun to undergo a change. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that women, minorities, and immigrants will constitute 80 percent of the additions to the labor force between 1987 and the year 2000 (Oakes, 1990). The National Science Foundation projects that the United States may have a shortfall of 400,000 scientists and over 250,000 engineers by the year 2006 (Argonne, 1990). Since women are among those who are significantly underrepresented among individuals preparing for a career in science, thirty women who are currently pursuing a successful career in physical science and technology were interviewed. …
