Pre-Service Teachers' Attitudes Toward Inclusion In A Non-Traditional Classroom, Julie K. Ivey Ph.D., Kathryn Reinke Ph.D.

Electronic Journal for Inclusive Education

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 52 pre-service teachers’ participation in an outdoor education program, for sixth grade students, on their attitudes toward inclusion of students with special needs. A survey was administered before and after the three-day event. After the experience the subjects felt more familiar with the concept of inclusion and realized possible conflicts between expectations of regular classroom teachers and special education teachers. This suggests that experiences in outdoor settings, a learning environment not usually explored, can influence pre-service teachers’ attitudes toward inclusion of students with special needs as well as make …

Pharmaceutical Employers' Perceptions Of Employees Or Applicants With E -Degrees Or Online Coursework, Elizabeth Griffin Chaney

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Interest in the use and development of web-based instruction in higherEducation has seen an explosion of activity in the last decade. With this rapid growth, the majority of research has been focused on student and faculty perceptions of distance learning. Although online learning may appear to be quite advantageous to students and universities, employers are not always willing to hire applicants with online degrees after graduation. Nevertheless, about 70% of the nation's two- and four-year colleges are now offering cyber-courses. This number should lead one to ask prior to enrolling in an e-degree program what an employer's perceptions of that …

MERC Publications

The purpose of this literature review is to examine what research and theory has informed us about using information and communication technologies (ICT), specifically the Internet, to support K-12 instruction. In the fall of 2000, 77% of K-12 classrooms in the United States has at least one computer with Internet access (Cattagni & Farris, 2001). This number has surely risen especially as programs such a E-rate, funded by the federal government, provided billions of dollars to schools for the purpose of establishing Internet connections (see www.fcc.gov/learnet).

When reviewing the existing literature, it becomes clear that while great emphasis has been …

The findings reported here are part of a larger study on the role and responsibilities of the superintendent as an instructional leader. Specifically, this investigation examined the covariance between school principals' and school board members' views of the instructional leadership of the district superintendent. Results from this correlational and regression analysis …

A Three Dimensional Model For The Inclusion Of Children With Disabilities, Kimberly G. Griffith Ph.D., Mark J. Cooper Ph.D., Ravic P. Ringlaben

Electronic Journal for Inclusive Education

The main thrust of preparation for inclusion has been to prepare the general education teacher as well as the student with exceptionalities for this educational initiative. Students without disabilities are often not the prevailing focus in these efforts. This model is an archetype that enables peers to understand, accept, and care for their classmates with exceptionalities. Students acquire knowledge about disabilities, skills are developed that help them interact appropriately, and activities are provided that influence more positive thoughts and behaviors among all students. Self -Perception Of Competence And Its Relationship To The Academic Achievement Of Students Attending Middle School, Louis Jr. Cavallo

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In 1982, the National Middle School Association published This We Believe, which outlines the general characteristics of developmentally responsive middle schools. The characteristics include interdisciplinary teaching teams, advisory programs, exploratory courses, and expanded extracurricular programs (NMSA, 1982). These middle school components that address affective characteristics were developed, in part, to ensure that adolescents attending middle school are provided with the opportunity to have positive interpersonal relations with an adult advisor, a smaller learning community within the larger school, and opportunities to develop positive peer relations. While developmentally responsive middle schools have an emphasis on the affective characteristics of adolescent development, …

We also have an article addressing concerns about the use of behavior modification in public school classrooms. As the conversation continues concerning including students with special needs in regular education classrooms, the need for greater awareness and acceptance of the diversity inherent in the human condition becomes clearer in light of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. One …
