Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
This single subject multiple baseline study investigated the effect of a student chosen reinforcer on academic engagement during acquisition tasks in an elementary student with autism. The subject was a 6 year-old Hispanic male with a primary diagnosis of autism. The student is in a regular classroom setting greater than 60% of the day, with the remainder of the day spent in a self-contained classroom. An Analysis Of Print Media Reporting Of Established Religions And New Religious Movements, Lonnie F. Griffin Iii
An Analysis Of Print Media Reporting Of Established Religions And New Religious Movements, Lonnie F. Griffin Iii
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This thesis reports findings from a content analysis of 720 newspaper articles and 3,052 newspaper article cases focused on the issue of print media bias. Sunday editions of three major newspapers were drawn from the six-year period 1998-2003 for analysis. Prior research has uncovered print media bias in reporting of religious groups, and this thesis examines the substance of those claims pertaining to both established religions and new religious movements. Research findings show that established religions and their members are typically described in favorable or neutral terms, while new religious movements and their members are consistently described with pejorative terms. …

The Future Of Guinn V. Legislature, Troy L. Atkinson
The Future Of Guinn V. Legislature, Troy L. Atkinson
Nevada Law Journal
United States Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson best articulated the human element, giving life to the Nation's Highest Court, when he stated: "We are not final because we are infallible, but we are infallible only because we are final." With the Legislature eventually approving a balanced budget by a supermajority vote, the Nevada Supreme Court's ruling in Guinn v. Legislature, will stand, at least for now, because it is "final." However, the Guinn ruling is far from "infallible." The circumstances leading to the Court's decision, as well as the court's logic, have created a dangerous precedent that could extend far …

Factors That Keep Teachers With Perceived Leadership Potential From Seeking Secondary Principal And Assistant Principal Positions, Wesley J. Galusha
Student Work
The purpose of this study was to determine what factors discourage or inhibit secondary school teachers who have demonstrated leadership potential from seeking secondary principal and assistant principal positions. There has been little systematic research investigating why teachers choose not to become school administrators, from their own perspective(s).

Board Members' Perceptions Of Their Roles In The Governance Of An Independent Christian School, Michelle Lundgren
Student Work
The purpose of this study was to explore board members' perceptions of their roles at an independent Christian school. The study was exploratory and interviews were used to elicit the members' perceptions. The participants included eight board members and the head administrator of a K–12 Christian school in the Midwest. Interviews were conducted with each participant two times during the school year. Questions focused on topics derived from the available literature dealing with public and private school boards and from the experience of the researcher. Qualitative data analysis methodology was used.
Using Weblogs In Scholarship And Teaching, David Wiley, Trey Martindale
Using Weblogs In Scholarship And Teaching, David Wiley, Trey Martindale
Faculty Publications
The web has become an important resource for teaching and learning (National Center for Educational Statistics [NCES], 2003). One reason the web is such a vital resource is that it allows almost anyone to contribute to its "holdings." Tools like HTML editors and FTP clients have made web publishing available to many teachers and students. However, the challenge of learning to use these tools has been a barrier to web publishing for many. Weblogs reduce the technical barriers to effective web publishing significantly.
Abstinence-Only Adolescent Education: Ineffective, Unpopular And Unconstitutional, James J. Mcgrath
Abstinence-Only Adolescent Education: Ineffective, Unpopular And Unconstitutional, James J. Mcgrath
ExpressO
This article examines the recent changes in the funding of “abstinence only” educational programs that attempt to reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Although funding for these programs was previously ruled to be facially constitutional, this is no longer the case as their lack of efficacy for their stated purpose has been exposed. Newer programs are in direct violation of unconstitutional conditions doctrine, and none of these programs address a significant segment of the student population, lesbian and gay students. My article addresses this oversight as dangerous public health policy as well as a potential constitutional …
