This study investigates selected Indiana school superintendents' perceptions of student evaluation using standardized and teacher-made tests. In the survey instrument used for the study, superintendents' perceptions of student testing were verified from the perspectives of their age, experience and school district location. The survey instrument also incorporated questions intended to identify participating superintendents' opinions on student evaluation with tests from their educational beliefs, assumptions, and philosophical orientations. Two hundred Indiana school superintendents were selected to participate in the study. The method of selection was the stratified random sampling technique. Human thought is unique. We have the ability to create and share meaning through the use of various kinds of symbol systems. This study explored the shared dynamics of visual and verbal symbolic thought processes and their consequences for the acquisition of literacy. In particular, the study focused on the writing, reading, and drawing processes of the children in a process-based first-grade classroom.

Research methods included participant/observations, open-ended interviews, audio-taped classroom discussions and interviews, and samples of the writing and drawing of the children in the entire class, with a special focus on five of the students. A detailed analysis …

In studying the philosophy of J. Krishnamurti, I will be focusing on his ideas on education. Krishnamurti insists on educating without fear, without authority, and without competition. He suggests that, rather than a hierarchical relationship, the educator and the educated should meet on the same level, questioning and counter-questioning. He promotes the idea that the mind must become incredibly sensitive, alert, and aware in order for real learning to take place. A mind in this state is alive and innocent, ready for learning. This study was designed to investigate the effect of sex and social influence on perception of physical effort during light or heavy work by male and female athletes. Subjects performed three submaximal trials of 27 minutes each on a cycle ergometer at 25, 50 and 70% of maximum oxygen consumption in the presence of a male coactor, a female coactor, and just riding alone. The results indicated that subjects' ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) were similar when performing at all three coactor/alone conditions. No significant sex difference in RPE was found. The severity of the current AIDS epidemic, combined with the lack of successful biological interventions, necessitates an active educational program as the primary intervention strategy. Health education theories abound, but relatively little definitive application of these theories has been made to the issues involved with HIV transmission: sexual behavior and the sharing of intravenous drug apparatus. Significant behavior changes have occurred in some people, but the consistency of the behavior change may be difficult to sustain. Thus, the authors suggest that health education should be delivered repeatedly in culturally acceptable language and format, by community leaders, and through many different …

This case-study had as its principal focus the applicability of James Cummins' theory of developmental interdependence in language acquisition to secondary age students. This theory postulates that, for younger children, the development and strengthening of the first language can ultimately lead to a more rapid and efficient acquisition of the second. The study set out to test the hypothesis that secondary age Limited English Proficient (LEP) students who receive Primary Language Arts instruction demonstrate higher levels of English acquisition than do comparable students who do not receive this instruction. The present physical education curriculum offered at the college are the traditional lifetime sport activities. This problem was addressed by the design and implementation of a Diagnostic Health Fitness program for the college level student. The program's aims are to provide students with a basis for intelligent selection of habits, behaviorisms and programs to enable them to maintain a high quality of health and fitness throughout a lifetime. Software Piracy Among Teachers, Susan Elizabeth Fry

The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and personality correlates of software piracy among teachers, who were 97 inservice teachers enrolled in Education courses at UNO. Subjects completed the Computing Teacher Inventory (a questionnaire designed expressly for this study to measure teachers' experience with and attitudes toward microcomputer software), the Teacher Stress Inventory, and the Teacher Job Satisfaction Questionnaire. Participation was voluntary and anonymous. Results indicated that teachers procured more software from illegal sources than from legal sources. More than half of those teachers who owned software admitted to illegally copying software from school. The other crimes …

One purpose of this study was to identify and classify biology concepts in the tenth grade biology textbook issued by the Republic of China. The study also investigated student comprehension difficulties and teacher instructional difficulties, as well as the student levels of concept comprehension attainment in relation to the levels of comprehension assumed by teachers. Utilizing a sociological approach, the research was conducted among 45 Indian women respondents in Ladang Cha'ah, an oil palm plantation in the state of Johore in Peninsular Malaysia.
