This pedagogical research study was done to evaluate effectiveness of iPads as a collaborative tool for classroom teaching with an overall goal of improving quality of communal learning. Technology usage in classroom teaching has recently escalated with the advent of several mobile devices such as smart phones, iPads, tablets, clickers, Chromebooks etc. Statistical analysis of student feedback on effectiveness of iPads in promoting classroom collaboration in Biology has not been investigated so far. This quantitative study explored the relationship between the mathematics achievement patterns of eighth grade students in Puerto Rico and their use of computer software application programs for doing mathematics. The theoretical framework used is the educational production function, which allowed the use of a function to analyze this relationship. The researcher analyzed 2015 restricted National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) mathematics data. Data analysis consisted of descriptive statistical analysis and multilevel modeling analysis. Control variables to measure socioeconomic status and absenteeism were included in the multilevel model. Attachment theory states that emotion regulation is one of the central features of attachment system. The current study adopted an attachment perspective to investigate how mother-child attachment at 36 months and teacher-child relationships at 54 months influence children’s emotion regulation in 3rd grade, and whether teacher-child relationships moderate the associations between mother-child attachment and children’s emotion regulation. Longitudinal data from the first three phases of the National Institute of Child Health and Human development Early Child Care Research Network of Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (NICHD SECCYD) were used in the study.

Afterschool interventions in STEM are linked to learning gains during the school day. These opportunities engage and excite students about STEM concepts since they observe a more hands-on, project-oriented approach. Often these opportunities for afterschool interventions are infrequent in nature and leave gaps for students in their maturation and understanding. Herein we describe the first report of an afterschool intervention, named NE STEM 4U, targeting socioeconomically disadvantaged middle school youth via a twice weekly, year-long intervention, studied across two years. This autobiography of my lived experience identifies contributing influences of arrested development within my educational and life trajectory and explores theoretical frameworks as key comparative indicators for my thwarted stages of psychosocial development. This essay examines The Chronicle, the Federated Colored Catholics’ official periodical. The author argues that the short-lived publication was an educative vehicle that provided practical strategies for addressing the day-to-day racial disparities facing the larger Black community. Remnants of the social and economic issues that The Chronicle’s founder, Thomas Wyatt Turner, sought to address during the late 1920s and early 1930s remain with us today, and as such, continue to demand both attention and solutions.

The purpose of this dissertation study was to explore the experiences, perceptions, and readiness (EPR) of vocational rehabilitation counselors (VRCs) supporting people with disabilities (PWD) in self-employment. While PWD are twice as likely to be self-employed than the general population, self-employment case closure rates within vocational rehabilitation remain historically low around 2%.

Descriptive, inferential, and correlational statistical analysis were used to investigate the EPR of 205 Certified Rehabilitation Counselors across the nation via an online survey, the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Self-Employment Process Survey (VRC-SEPS). This study examined the trends and patterns across time over the cohort 2015 on dependent variable, graduation. Aggregated longitudinal data for independent variables, mobility, attendance, discipline, math achievement, reading achievement, and parental educational attainment was collected for 98 students from 2010 to 2018. The independent variables of mobility, attendance, discipline, math achievement, reading achievement, and parental educational attainment were examined to determine whether or not high school completion is dependent on these measures.

The purpose of this study was to determine the appropriate amount of time for a biomechanics exam that consists of different types of questions other than multiple-choice questions. Eighty-nine students enrolled in two introductory biomechanics classes were recruited in the spring and fall of 2017. Students’ exam performance and time from three separate exams were obtained. All descriptive statistics were reported. Pearson’s correlation and factorial ANOVAs were performed to examine the associations between the exam and time used and the difference between the genders and among exams. This correlational study investigated the relationship of adolescent cyber-victimization to performance on the Georgia Milestone Assessment System (GMAS) competency test. Technology today allows students to learn how to operate various forms of digital equipment very early, but proper cyber etiquette training is not always included. This study addressed the potential that cyber-victims’ may have low performance scores on high stakes tests. Threshold Concepts are fundamental ideas within a discipline which are transformative, integrative, irreversible and usually troublesome. This article describes the threshold concept framework and discusses how it can offer new insights into how we focus teaching and facilitate learning around these concepts, such as uncertainty. Relevant research from a range of health disciplines are explored to consider which concepts may be critical to thinking and practising effectively in primary care. In addition, it is proposed that threshold concepts may have relevance to the GP recruitment crisis.

Cell-free protein synthesis (CFPS) has emerged as an enabling biotechnology for research and biomanufacturing as it allows for the production of protein without the need for a living cell. Applications of CFPS include the construction of libraries for functional genomics and structural biology, the production of personalized medicine, and the expression of virus-like particles. The absence of a cell wall provides an open platform for direct manipulation of the reaction conditions and biological machinery. This study seeks to better understand how school administrators approach and discuss issues of race and racism in K–12 schools. Police shootings, the 2016 election, and riots across America have put race at the center of conversations, but many school administrators avoid discussing these issues in professional settings to avoid tension. Existing school leaders were surveyed to determine their attitudes and perceptions of racial dialogue. Findings indicate that school leaders report being willing and comfortable in discussing race. However, administrators also reported that they avoid these discussions unless prompted. Implications from this work suggest a need to better prepare school …
