Dissertations (1934 -)
Throughout the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, the United States government weaponized education to assimilate Native Americans culturally and politically into mainstream American society. From 1871 into 1930s, the federal government forced Native children to attend boarding schools, separating Native children from their communities and assaulted their Indigenous cultures and languages. By 1960, Native communities in Alaska and Arizona began to advocate for greater control over the educational opportunities available to their children, while, simultaneously, Native employees in the federal government worked to change the outcomes of federal Indian education policy. Native communities demanded greater influence in school administrations, lobbied the …

The Lived Experience Of Wisconsin Generation Z Teachers Remaining In The Classroom Beyond Their Third Year Of Teaching, Sarah Annalee Bennin
Dissertations (1934 -)
Teacher retention is an increased concern across Wisconsin. Teacher retention rates are at “67 percent in the first five years” (Kammerud et al., 2023, p. 25) in Wisconsin. Our current workforce spans five generations, and early career teachers are the newest generation to the workforce, Generation Z. They are at a higher risk of leaving the profession (Carver et al., 2017; Hamidu, 2023; Hanover Research, 2022; Sims, 2020). School systems struggle having enough available staff with experience to stabilize the educational environment and mentor new teachers (Hamidu, 2023). The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand Generation Z early …

Closing The Gap In American History Knowledge In K-12 Students, Benjamin D. Langholz
Closing The Gap In American History Knowledge In K-12 Students, Benjamin D. Langholz
Masters Projects
Research indicates there is a decline in student comprehension and engagement in Social Studies knowledge among secondary students in the United States. Students lack access to diverse voices in their history classrooms, which may lead to an unbalanced perspective of American history. While there are multiple reasons behind this lack of diversity in the secondary classroom, this paper focuses on three culprits: Lack of diversity in state standards, lack of diversity in class curriculums, and that teachers may lack the knowledge to teach multiple viewpoints to students. One way to combat these problems is by implementing culturally relevant pedagogy, which …

Medical education is in the process of a pedagogical revolution. Traditional lectures are playing a progressively smaller role, with more of the content being delivered through student-centered small-group sessions. Problem-based learning (PBL) has become a centerpiece of education for many medical schools, in large part because of its focus on the learners identifying their own knowledge gaps. As junior scientists seek faculty appointments in institutions focused on healthcare education, they will find that skills in PBL are valued by the academic community. Among the necessary skills is the capability to lead efforts in PBL case writing. The cases, each of …

There is a sense of urgency to address the widening achievement gaps among minority students, students with disabilities, and English-language learners. This makes immediate school action necessary to create a more equitable learning environment. Without strategic interventions, including improved teacher retention efforts, stronger student support systems, and effective leadership, these challenges will continue to hinder student success and overall school performance. The purpose of this project is to find solutions for schools to institute to narrow the achievement gap by ensuring all students receive the support needed to succeed. Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
The activities of the Roman Catholic Church were an important factor in preserving and reviving the national identity of the Polish minority in Volyn under the conditions of the Russification and discriminatory policies of the Russian autocracy during the First World War. The Catholic clergy actively worked to aid the Polish population and refugees affected by the war. During the First World War, the Roman Catholic clergy of the Lutsk-Zhytomyr diocese, together with the majority of the Polish population in Ukraine, provided significant aid to war victims and refugees from the Kingdom of Poland and Galicia. Catholic churches collected funds …
Gender Sidelining In Schools And The Scourge Of Single Sex School Leadership, Kelley King, Jessica Fink
Gender Sidelining In Schools And The Scourge Of Single Sex School Leadership, Kelley King, Jessica Fink
St. John's Law Review
Concerns about unequal gender representation have plagued virtually every workplace in recent decades. In countless professions, even those in which women comprise a majority of the workforce, leadership positions are dominated by men. Often, the inability of women to rise within the professional hierarchy stems not only from overt acts of sex discrimination, but also from more subtle and nuanced bias in the workplace—bias referred to in other research as “gender sidelining.” This sidelining seems particularly paradoxical when it arises in professions in which women already have been funneled due to their gender—including the education sphere. In this way, the …

The Urgency Of Instituting Systemic Cybersecurity Curriculum Within Stem At Secondary Educational Levels In Preparation For Postsecondary Institutions., Robert Spencer
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Over the last 20 years, many secondary institutions have made advances developing curriculum defined as “STEM (Science, Engineering and Mathematics)” in order to ensure secondary students are eligible to apply as well excel in technology degree programs at the college and university levels. Although various initiatives exist, there are studies however, which allude to a great possibility that there will be a lack of cybersecurity professionals filling present day and anticipated future positions. Despite a large number of federal and educational enhancements there is need for additional research regarding instituting overall systemic processes and curriculum which supports secondary student transition …

Intervention efforts that can bridge the link between knowing that PrEP prevents HIV and support with access to PrEP are necessary for Black cisgender women.
Objective: The purposes of the vlogs through the campaign were to share information about ways to prevent HIV using PrEP and fact-based education and provide access to PrEP resources with …
Defining An "Appropriate Education" Under The Education For All Handicapped Children Act Of 1975, Stephen A. Mansfield
Defining An "Appropriate Education" Under The Education For All Handicapped Children Act Of 1975, Stephen A. Mansfield
Maine Law Review
The educational rights of handicapped children have long been neglected due to a combination of societal indifference and ignorance. Judicial recognition of the educational rights of handicapped persons only began in the early 1970's when constitutional challenges were brought against school systems that excluded handicapped children from attending school. Federal statutory reforms, however, have gone much further than the constitutionally-based decisions of the early 1970's. This Comment focuses on the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, the primary federal statute for securing educational rights of handicapped children. Because the Act is relatively new, case law providing guidance for judicial decision …

Exploring Pedagogical Approaches And Discussion For Young Beginner Double Bass Players, Jiaying Zhang
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
In recent years, early childhood education for the double bass has gained increasing attention and plays a crucial role in shaping the future development of the instrument. However, compared to other instruments, research on early childhood education for the double bass remains relatively underdeveloped, with a lack of written materials on the subject. This thesis introduces the formation of early childhood teaching concepts and explains why parents play an irreplaceable role in a child’s initial exposure to music learning. By collecting and analyzing traditional double bass teaching methods and integrating common principles from other string instrument teaching approaches, this study …

Features Of The History Of The Intellectual Movement In The Arabian Gulf Until The Nineteenth Century, Amir Karim Abdelali Jaber, Wadad Abdalsada Fazaa
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Studying the history of intellectual movement in the Arabian Gulf region until the nineteenth century is a subject shrouded in mystery, which is why many researchers have neglected it and have not addressed it in their historical studies. Moreover, this era did not witness any features of intellectual and cultural awareness until the end of the mentioned century due to the prevalence of tribalism in the Arabian Gulf region and the tendency of individuals in their loyalty to the tribe without loyalty to a national political entity that unites them. The policy of cultural and intellectual isolation practiced by the …

Preventing Inevitable Decline: The Message Plato And The Roman Empire Send To The American People, Emma G. Dayton
Preventing Inevitable Decline: The Message Plato And The Roman Empire Send To The American People, Emma G. Dayton
Helms School of Government Spring Public Policy Conference
Plato’s Theory of Inevitable Decline outlined heavily in his Republic provides the basis for this paper. One can compare his theory to several governments throughout history, such as the Roman Empire. By examining the Roman Empire, one identifies three areas where the republic erred: education, military defenses, and economic flourishing. Mistakes in these areas led to the country’s downfall. Taking Plato’s theory and drawing from Rome’s example, Plato’s Theory of Inevitable Decline can be tested against several independent variables in present-day America. The state of American decline can be studied by examining her education system, military defenses against outside threats, …
Education Standards In The Us Military, Makayla Donnelly
Education Standards In The Us Military, Makayla Donnelly
Helms School of Government Spring Public Policy Conference
The United States military has been observed by many conservative and libertarian thinktanks, such as The Heritage Foundation and CATO, as losing strength and effectiveness. Many outside of these major thinktanks are concerned about why defense takes up so much of the discretionary budget when the military seemingly continues to decline as majority of military branches fall short on their recruitment quotas. To boost recruitment and bolster the US military several branches have reexamined policies and altered them to expand the recruiting pool. One policy that is being investigated for reexamination is education standards. Education standards in some branches may …

Nepotism In Employee Recruitment And Student Admissions In Nigeria’S Tertiary Education System, Dianabasi Ukpong
Nepotism In Employee Recruitment And Student Admissions In Nigeria’S Tertiary Education System, Dianabasi Ukpong
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Corruption in Nigeria’s educational sector, especially the tertiary sector, exists as a gap in the literature between policy formulation and implementation. Government agencies structure educational policies for their personal goals rather than enacting a policy framework promoting broad national interest. Current literature reveals that policies on recruitment and admissions in the tertiary education system are personality-oriented and allow tribalism, nepotism, favoritism, and even discrimination. This general qualitative study used the narrative policy framework to examine nepotistic practices in recruitment and admissions in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. The purpose was to examine how nepotism in recruiting qualified employees impacts the tertiary …
