With the capitulation of Japan in August 1945, World Tier II came to an abrupt end but that date signified the beginning of a phenomenon quite unique in history: the transformation of an alien and authoritarian culture into a democratically oriented society by means of educational Ideas and methodology. The role of American educational philosophy in the democratization of Japanese society warrants more attention than it has thus far received. It was with this in mind that the following study was undertaken.

By allowing for the results of various academic ability tests and measures, numerous studies have been done on the relationship of other variables to college grades. Studies have indicated, for instance, that Greek letter society membership; choice of major subject; rural, urban, or "mixed" background; private or public high school background; amount of formal education of father and maturity of interests were significantly related to college grades in some groups.

Although all prospective student nurses applying to the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing are required to take the Johnson Temperament Analysis, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, and to check the Problem Check List Form for School of Nursing, no actual value of the scores had been established. It appeared as though deviations above and below the fiftieth percentile on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory might be predictive of adjustment problems in nursing students. The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the grade equivalent scores of the second, third and fourth grades of the Metropolitan Achievement Tests (MAT) and the eighth grade scores of the same MST test for use in predicting success in subsequent achievement tests as found on file at the Moxee High School.
