A Study To Investigate The Relationships Among Three Tests Which Purport To Measure Perceptual Skills In Kindergarten Children, Carl Rawe Jr.
All Master's Theses
The study was divided into two parts. Part one was concerned with establishing the relationships among the Rutgers Drawing Test, the Metropolitan Readiness Test and the Frostig Test of Visual Perception. Answers were sought to the following questions: 1) How do the tests correlate with one another? 2) What are the shared variances among the tests?
Part two of the study related first grade reading achievement as measured by the Primary Reading Profiles (level one) with the Rutgers and Metropolitan scores. Specifically: 1) Does the study support the work of Williams, who found a correlation of .80 between the Rutgers …
An Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Study To Determine If Achievement And Attitude Can Be Influenced By A Textbook Adoption, Elsie M. Railey
An Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Study To Determine If Achievement And Attitude Can Be Influenced By A Textbook Adoption, Elsie M. Railey
All Master's Theses
There is on the market a wide range of contemporary mathematics textbooks available. Textbooks approach mathematics differently and there is a variation in terms of the amount of time allocated to a topic, the development of elementary concepts and laws of arithmetic, and the amount of drill and repetition. The sequential development of the texts follows closely, but the scope and content differ significantly. Specifically, it is the purpose of this study to determine if there is a significant difference between series, as opposed to those in another mathematics series, in the variables of attitude and achievement. The two textbooks …
The Experimental Use Of Operant Procedures With Language Delayed Children, Scott W. Nielsen
The Experimental Use Of Operant Procedures With Language Delayed Children, Scott W. Nielsen
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study: (1) To compare the amount of vocalization produced by each child before the experiment with the amount of vocalization during and after the application of operant conditioning techniques. (2) To compare the variations in the vocalization produced by the children. (3) To explore the possibility of shaping those vocalizations into meaningful words. The study sought to verify the following statement: Utilization of operant conditioning principles will increase the amount and variety of vocalization in language delayed children.

An Application Of A Revised Morrissett's Curriculum Analysis System To A High School English Program, Eldon Richard Loewe
An Application Of A Revised Morrissett's Curriculum Analysis System To A High School English Program, Eldon Richard Loewe
All Master's Theses
The problem presented in this thesis is threefold. Taken together, these items present the bulk of work for any person attempting curriculum evaluation at the local level:
1. Meaningful evaluative information must be obtained. Instead of glib and generalized assumptions about what ought to be, one should achieve specific information relevant to the researcher as well as his departmental colleagues.
2. The information must relate to other studies so that a larger curriculum analysis will result. If the soundest method of national evaluation is to create concrete building blocks locally, these individual studies must mesh to provide something larger and …
Duty Performance Of Vocational Guidance Counselors, Richard K. Swanson
Duty Performance Of Vocational Guidance Counselors, Richard K. Swanson
All Master's Theses
It appeared to the author from reviewing the proposed Washington State Standards that perhaps the "quality" and "guidance functions" recommended by the Panel and adopted by the Vocational Education Act, to be available to students, were not being met by the counselors qualifying under the variety of requirements available to Washington State counselors. More specifically, it appeared that counselors being certified under a particular set of requirements would tend to perform a particular stage of counseling more successfully due to the experiences required for certification. The problem as viewed by the author is that the variety of criteria available for …

The Meaning Of Two Categories Of Verbal Reinforcement To Middle And Lower Class Children, Steven John Talmadge
The Meaning Of Two Categories Of Verbal Reinforcement To Middle And Lower Class Children, Steven John Talmadge
All Master's Theses
Many variables contribute to the effectiveness of social reinforcement in eliciting changes in children's behavior. To date, little work has been done on subject variables such as cognizance of reinforcement contingencies and preference for one type of reinforcement as opposed to another. In previous research the effectiveness of verbal, social reinforcers have been evaluated on task performance criteria (e.g., marble in the hole game) with Subjects in direct contact with the reinforcing agent. The present study investigated these variables by having children rate two categories of verbal, social reinforcers. One category was composed of student-centered statements and the other consisted …

Clarification Of The Role Of The Teacher Of The Elementary Educable Mentally Retarded Child In Tacoma, Washington, Stephen Melseth

The basic problem is what role expectations does the teacher of elementary EMR children think she has compared to what her principal thinks her role should be? Role expectation statements from four areas were considered: (1) Curriculum and Instruction; (2) School and Community Relations; (3) Administration and Organization; (4-) Guidance and Evaluation.
Three specific questions are cited:
(1) Is there consensus for selected role norm items, among teachers of the elementary EMR child?
(2) Is there consensus for selected role norm items among the building principals?
(3) Is there consensus for selected role norm items between the focal and counter …

Sex Differences In The Sixth Grade: An In-Depth Study Of A Neglected Learning Factor In Reading, Gail Purvis Johnson
Sex Differences In The Sixth Grade: An In-Depth Study Of A Neglected Learning Factor In Reading, Gail Purvis Johnson
All Master's Theses
Concern for the differences between the sexes in the reading area has prompted the following questions:
1. If there is an obvious difference between the sexes in the area of reading achievement, why is it that sex differences are not considered a pertinent learning factor?
2. What factors might be involved in causation and therefore, worth investigating?
3. More specifically, how do boys differ from girls in their response to the situation called ''learning to read?" Is there a relevant developmental or related neurological difference?
4. What factors within the school situation might be significant? Do reading programs accommodate possible …
A Differentially Reinforcing Token System In A Public School Classroom, John Sparks
A Differentially Reinforcing Token System In A Public School Classroom, John Sparks

Effects Of Teacher And Pupil Expectancy Upon School Achievement, Wing Jew
Effects Of Teacher And Pupil Expectancy Upon School Achievement, Wing Jew
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The effects of self-fulfilling prophecies have been observed under various situations in the past, but Rosenthal and Jacobson's recent South San Francisco study has probably stimulated increased public and professional interest in the effects of expectations on learning. It was felt that additional research in this area was desirable ·in order to further examine how and to what extent expectancies can influence learning situations.
This study was designed to study the effects of informing randomly selected pupils and their teachers that these particular pupils had greater potential for school success than they had been demonstrating. It was hypothesized that if …
