The purpose of this study was to write a comprehensive historical analysis of compulsory education in the United States from its inception in the colonies through 1984. The study attempts to analyze the elements of the origin, developments, and trends. The majority of the primary sources of this historical study were literary and were taken from numerous sources including United States Supreme Court decisions, congressional legislation, opinions of the Attorney Generals of the United States and various states. A computer model has been developed for the purpose of allocating funds, by department, within a university. This model categorizes each class as one of three types -- lecture, problem solving, or laboratory. A standard class size is assigned to each type -- 40, 25, and 10 respectively. Combining the previous years head count for each class with the credit-hour value of each class, a faculty position count for every department is generated.

Administrative positions, staff positions, operating expense, and operating capital funds are calculated using various combinations of factors involving student credit hours, faculty positions, and class type. Factors …

This historical study analyzed thirty five years of public school expenditures for evidence of change in spending patterns to discover whether or not the organizational structure of the schools has been allowed to drift from public expectations; Budget expenditures from year to year were reclassified by the USED codes in Handbook II. This rigorous classification and the LOTUS 123 spread sheet enabled the researcher to hold all data constant; The study demonstrated that school boards' objectives had not changed between 1950 and 1985. The primary purpose of the study was to determine the effect of Dalcroze Eurhythmics on the melodic musical growth of first grade students. The secondary purposes of the study were to determine the differences between boys and girls in the ability to discriminate pitch register and melodic contour and to determine the differences created by the interaction of method, sex, and time. The purpose of this study was to determine how guidance services developed in the public schools of Louisiana between 1942 and 1972. In order to understand the events of these years, it was necessary to examine the period preceding them. In the beginning of the guidance movement, social workers pioneered in assisting youth with problems associated with industrialization. Louisiana was unique in that its guidance program started within the school system. An experimental program began in the Orleans Parish Schools in 1921. It was considered effective and continued. The Problem. The present study is an historical study of the educational impact of American church missionaries in the 19th and 20th centuries on the educational programs of Iran. Western church missionaries, particularly Americans, were among the earliest foreign influence to affect the Iranian educational programs. Traditionally, education has been important in Iran's recorded history of 3,000 years. In old and medieval Iran, customs and religious laws were the prevailing systems that influenced individual and group behavior. They also dictated educational policy. Moora town was established in 1875, when the railway from Midland Junction to Walkaway was built. There had always been Aborigines in the surrounding districts, and as land was taken up for farming, a number of them were employed as farmhands and domestics.

The town is the regional centre for the North Midlands, a subdivision of the Northern Agricultural Statistical Division of Western Australia. As such, it was developed to service the agricultural hinterland. The Northern Agricultural Statistical Division has a total population of 42,804 people (23,044 males and 19,766 females) of whom 1,828 or 4.6% are Aboriginal (1,003 males …

Life in the military for most, families is an interesting and enjoyable experience. It offers an opportunity to make many friends, meet interesting people, travel to new places, and live in foreign countries. For the family with a handicapped child these advantages can turn into disadvantages and be an additional area for concern. Frequent moves, long separations, and the strangeness of new communities can cause worry and apprehension. Not knowing what is available for their special child at the next duty station can lead to additional stress and lower the morale of the family.

Children come to school speaking the language of their speech community. For some children, the language in their speech community is a variety of English that differs from standard English or what may be called "school English." These children may experience great difficulties in speaking standard English. This problem is one of social class dialect rather than regional language variation. The problem of the thesis is to develop rationale for the teaching of local history in the schools through the use of recorded documentary statements by eyewitnesses to local events. As illustrative of this mode of teaching local history, a series of recordings are made in which the residents of the Pomona, California, area who were eyewitnesses to the local events or who could relate reliable hearsay about the history of Pomona are interviewed. A research methodology for the taking, editing, and cataloguing of these tape recordings for school use is developed and executed.

A Roman named Tacitus once said: "In all things there is a kind of law of cycles." This statement has meaning for the field of reading instruction; for there is, at the present time, evidence to indicate that reading instruction may complete a cycle in the future. In the colonial times reading instruction was individualized. Today the most widely discussed trend in the teaching of reading is individualized reading. The individualized instruction of today, however, is qualitatively different from that of colonial times.
