Spacing Of Repetitions And Contextual Interference Effects In Motor Skill Learning., Harry John Meeuwsen Jan 1987

Spacing Of Repetitions And Contextual Interference Effects In Motor Skill Learning., Harry John Meeuwsen

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Three experiments are reported that examined the possibility that the contextual interference effect in motor skill learning is a variation of a multiple trial spacing of repetitions effect. Specifically, the question why a non-spaced condition in a spacing of multiple trials motor learning paradigm has not produced predicted retention deficits. Subjects in all experiments learned to perform a simple motor skill in a criterion movement time. Experiments 1 and 2 examined why spacing of multiple trials did not produce expected retention performance benefits in previous spacing experiments. The results of Experiment 1 and 2 showed that the randomness of the …

Multicultural Education : A Book Of Readings, Gary Partington (Ed.) Jan 1987

Multicultural Education : A Book Of Readings, Gary Partington (Ed.)

Research outputs pre 2011

The problem of obtaining texts with material relevant to the core course in Aboriginal and Multicultural Education in the W.A. College led me to suggest a book of readings selected by those teaching the course. Obviously this was a trap for the unwary, for the diversity of recommendations that I received meant that unless the book was to be of mammoth proportions, some lecturers were bound to be disappointed. This was compounded by difficulties in tracking down authors to obtain their permission in time to publish.

Even so, it is anticipated that the collection of readings finally assembled will contribute …

(1987) Educational Reform Through Philosophy For Children, Laurance J. Splitter Jan 1987

(1987) Educational Reform Through Philosophy For Children, Laurance J. Splitter

Collected Papers of Laurance J. Splitter

Thinking should be incorporated into the curriculum and this crucial task should not be left until secondary school, nor placed in the sole care of the traditional school disciplines. Teaching thinking involves transforming the classroom into a community of inquiry. The key to inquiry at whatever level is structured, organized thinking. By bringing this structure to bear on classroom activity, the teacher can transform ordinary discussion into dialogue. At all levels, teachers and students together must find ways to integrate the dimensions of inquiry and discovery into their activities. Nevertheless, the classroom community of inquiry should be focused around …

Saint Vincent’s College in Cape Girardeau, Mississippi opened in 1838 as a boys’ school and was incorporated as a college in 1843, providing mainly secular secondary education. It became a common seminary for several dioceses in 1860. During the Civil War, skirmishes and the Battle of Cape Girardeau came near it, and the loyalties of its faculty and students were divided. Nonetheless, classes continued throughout the war. Afterward, the college faced anti-Catholic bigotry and bankruptcy, and returned to accepting secular students for various reasons. It had many notable alumni and faculty, including bishops and Vincentian provincials respectively. It resumed its …
