A Comparative Study Of Parenting Skills: Special Education Vs. Regular Education, Judith Ann Fleming

The parenting skills of teenage mothers were examined across three groups of mothers, low functioning teenage mothers in special education, teenage mothers in regular education, and teenage mothers from an agency specializing in intervention for maltreating parents. Relationships between Parenting Stress Index (PSI) and the Child Abuse Potential Inventory (CAP) were examined to see if special education mothers benefitted from a parenting class in their curriculum. Significant differences were found in the PSI parent domain attachment, PSI parent domain relationship with spouse, and CAP rigidity scales. No significant differences were found in the total scores for all three groups. The …

The purpose of this project is to develop a childbirth education handbook for expectant parents that specifically follows the ongoing childbirth classes taught at Logan Regional Hospital. At present, much of the information that is provided to expectant parents comes from companies that advertise their products through childbirth education brochures. It is desirable that the students be provided with a complete, objective handbook to supplement the instruction received in the classroom.

Notwithstanding a successful experience in interdisciplinary education at Cornell, Dr. Heath has found that students interested in multidisciplinary education confront an ever-shifting mosaic of opportunity. The study was designed to examine the extent to which selected physical features of the general classroom in grades K-6 in the state of Indiana affect the quality of the learning environment as perceived by elementary school principals. In addition, it examined the extent to which selected aesthetic, comfort, and health and safety features affect the quality of the learning environment. Survey instruments were sent to 300 principals in K-6 schools selected at random; 232 instruments were returned and used in the analysis of data. The data collected for the study were tested using a one-way chi-square at the.05 level. …

A Study Of The Effects On Dropout Migrant Students, Relative As To How It Affects Their Lives, Frances D. Macias

A survey was conducted of 15 migrant students and their parents. Students and their parents were interviewed with a list of questions. These students attended two secondary and two senior high schools in Yakima, Washington. It was determined that because of continued migration of families, students get behind in their studies and therefore lose interest because of the frustration and low self-esteem these students feel. Families still migrate from Yakima, Washington, to other states in search of seasonal work, farm labor is still a way of life for migrant families from schools in the Yakima School District. This master's project provided a teachers~ handbook to assist in establishing a cross-age tutoring program. In addition to a philosophy statement and a review of the literature, this project also .provided forms for implementing the program and materials for training the tutors. The purpose of this project was to develop an inservice program to increase the job related skills of paraprofessional classroom assistants and the human management and supervision skills of the classroom teachers with whom they work. To accomplish this purpose, the inservice training needs of class-size paraprofessionals and the classroom teachers were studied. An inservice training program was developed and implemented with twelve class-size paraprofessionals and twelve supervising teachers from selected elementary schools in the Auburn School District. The purpose of this study was to identify the link between administrative preparation programs and actual superintendent responsibilities in public school corporations of Indiana. A survey was developed to solicit superintendents' perceptions of the actual time allocated to twenty-two academic skill areas commonly found as course offerings in departments of educational administration. All public school superintendents in Indiana serving in metropolitan, urban, suburban, town, and rural classifications were requested to react to perceptions regarding the most important administrative management skill areas, instructional leadership skill areas, and educational research training experiences.
