Spatial Visualization, Attitudes Toward Mathematics, And Mathematics Achievement Among Chinese-American, Hispanic-American, And Caucasian Seventh And Eighth Grade Students, Wenfu Shieh
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Many studies have shown that spatial visualization and attitudes toward mathematics are positively and significantly correlated to achievement in mathematics. This study attempted to find out whether these relationships remain consistent across various ethnic groups. This study also attempted to ascertain if spatial visualization ability and attitudes toward mathematics vary among ethnic groups, and if these possible variabilities correspond to the different degrees of mathematical achievement. One hundred five 7th and 8th grade Caucasian, Chinese-American, and Hispanic-American students were selected from three of the five middle schools in the Stockton Unified School District to participate in this study. The DAT …

The Analyses And Comparison Of Five Elementary Spelling Programs, Richard Hindalong
The Analyses And Comparison Of Five Elementary Spelling Programs, Richard Hindalong
Student Work
Spelling is one of the principal components of any elementary school program of language arts or English. Educationally, as well as socially, poor spelling is generally considered a sign of illiteracy. Whether this is justified or not, people do raise conclusions about a person's education and intelligence on the evidence of his/her spelling abilities. Therefore, strong spelling programs continue to be desired as an integral part of an elementary school curriculum.

The Education Of Children With Specific Reading Disabilities In Western Australia : Report To The Minister For Education, Western Australian Council For Special Education
The Education Of Children With Specific Reading Disabilities In Western Australia : Report To The Minister For Education, Western Australian Council For Special Education
Research outputs pre 2011
There are few developmental tasks in a child's life more important than learning to read. There are not many matters which concern parents and teachers more than whether or not a child makes satisfactory progress in learning to read. Parents and teachers are aware that young children soon realize whether or not they are progressing in much the same way as the rest of their peer group. As children move towards the end of primary school and enter secondary school, reading remains a fundamental skill on which so much other learning depends...

Job Satisfaction Of Vocational Agriculture Teachers In The Southeastern United States., Abdul Patah Bin Abdul Malek
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Job satisfaction of vocational agriculture teachers in the Southeastern United States was examined. A total of 355 teachers from seven states--Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, Arkansas, and North Carolina--responded to the survey. Job satisfaction was measured by the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) which had six scales--work on present job, present pay, opportunities for promotion, supervision on present job, people on the job, and job in general. Fourteen demographic variables selected to be used as independent variables were age, highest degree completed, current annual salary, years of teaching experience, number of months employed per year, average number of students per class, …

Vocational Agriculture Teacher's Perceptions Of Young/Adult Education Programs In The Southern Region Of The United States., Douglas Malcolm Haynes
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine vocational agriculture teachers' perceptions of their roles and responsibilities for and the importance of selected educationally related aspects of young/adult programs in agriculture. It was also the intent of the study to identify some characteristics of these programs in the South. A proportional two-phase random sampling technique was used to select 361 teachers in four states in the Southern region. The four-part questionnaire, developed to record responses, netted an 82.8% usable return rate after four follow-up procedures, which included an intensive follow-up of non-respondents. Participants' responses were recorded on an 11-point continuum …

The Effects Of Oral And Oral-Visual Dictation Exercises On A Specific Writing Skill Of Selected College Developmental Students (Remedial, Television, Controlled Composition)., Ronald Maurice Simeral
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This research was designed to examine the effects of dictation exercises on the scores of developmental students on a test of a specific English writing skill. Additionally, the study examined the differences in these scores based on the preference type scales of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in order to test the hypothesis that certain MBTI types that handle the oral language well would learn writing skills faster when exposed to dictation exercises related to those skills. A pre-test and a post-test were administered to three groups of developmental writing students at Nicholls State University. All three groups were taught …

Siblings of delayed children in the experimental group were included in home-based intervention with the teachers and in practice sessions with the parents. Analysis of covariance of scores on a developmental scale was employed to examine differences in the two groups. Three case studies of children were developed which illustrated the positive benefits and difficulties of including siblings …
