A Longitudinal Study Of The Effects Of Eighth Grade Career Counseling And Guidance On Eleventh Grade Occupational Interests As Measured By The Ohio Vocational Interest Survey., Norma Jean Gates
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Students have reacted positively to personal contact with school counselors in regard to learning about themselves in relationship to potential career goals. There appears to be a need, however, to ascertain the effect of career counseling at the upper elementary grades upon career awareness and development at a later secondary grade. In addition, there is a need to study the effects of individual versus group career guidance at the upper elementary grades with reference to the career choices selected at a later secondary grade.
08. First Edition Of Lisa (1976) By Matthew Lipman, Matthew Lipman
08. First Edition Of Lisa (1976) By Matthew Lipman, Matthew Lipman
Middle School Curriculum
Lisa is the story of a school year in the life of an adolescent girl and her classmates, a year studded with physical, aesthetic and ethical awakenings. Various events in these young people's lives prompt them to puzzle over such issues as animal rights, sexism, racism, justice, divorce and death. All of them struggle with issues of identity and thinking for oneself - philosophical issues of perennial concern to adolescents. As they begin to recognize the ethical dimensions of their experience, Lisa and her friends puzzle over such philosophical concepts as the right, the fair, the good, perfection, and naturalism. …

A Study Of Students In The Educational Opportunity Program At California State College, Stanislaus, 1969-1974., Norbert Michael Gonzales
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Access to higher education for low income, disadvantaged, and minority students has been, on a large scale basis, a recent phenomenon. According to Besis three main thrusts have supported the concept of public education for the masses, the Land Grant Act of 1862, the community college movement, and the G.I. Bill. This mass movement has not been equally distributed among all segments of the society. It was noticed as early as 1944 that there were substantial inequities in the degree of support for schools attended primarily by minority and poverty level students.
The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
One of the tasks of the adult school administrator is that of planning the program to be offered to the public. Is it well balanced academic and vocational areas; does it satisfy the needs of the home-maker, the student, the apprentice; does it offer something for each to fulfill his educational needs? These and a number of other questions must be answered before an adult school program will satisfy the educational needs of the adult community it is to serve. Damon stated it well when he wrote that: Although adult education is assuming a more important place in the public …

Instructional Style And The Intellectual Performance Of Indian And Eskimo Students, Judith Kleinfield
ISER Reports
Three 1970-71 studies concerning the styles of instruction that lead to higher intellectual performance among village American Indian and Eskimo high school students are presented in this final report of observations of teachers and students in several Native boarding schools and/or integrated urban high schools in Alaska. The first study, an ethnography, describes the problems of these students and their teachers, and suggests a typology differentiating effective and ineffective teachers. This ethnography suggests that the teachers degree of personal warmth versus professional distance, and degree of active demandingness versus passive understanding, are fundamental dimensions separating successful from unsuccessful teachers. The …

The paper also suggests how the instructional methods harmonize with village students' learning styles in regard to (1) personalism (experiment with ways to harmonize personal teaching style with students* learning styles) (2) competitiveness (devise teaching methods to cope with passive students), (3) joking (use this native method of correction in a two-sided manner), (4) project-reward work rhythm (assign concentrated …

Birth Order And Its Relationship To Dogmatism, John Richard Downs
Birth Order And Its Relationship To Dogmatism, John Richard Downs
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study was to take one definable personality pattern, open and closed mindedness, and to see if this dimension is reflected in ordinal birth position, specifically first- and later-born. The literature reviewed in this study appears to describe the first-born very much like Rokeach (1960) describes his closed-minded person. Further, the description of the later-born is very much in line with Rokeach's description of the open-minded person.
