A Study Of Word Usage In The Sixth Grades Of The Omaha Public Schools, Mary Lou Gallup Mar 1956

A Study Of Word Usage In The Sixth Grades Of The Omaha Public Schools, Mary Lou Gallup

Student Work

"Of all the phases of language instruction, that devoted to correct usage is possible the least successful." It has been found that errors that were in the children's speech when they entered school tend to persist in spite of the fact that most or all of these errors have repeatedly been the subject of correct-usage lessons year after year. English usage is under fire of critics who question the functions that the schools are now performing. The intermediate department of the school system, particularly the sixth grade, is highly challenged in this respect. It was the purpose of this study …

Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz Sep 1955

Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz

Concordia Theological Monthly

Roman Catholic child welfare is concerned with the dependent child, including the delinquent child, which for one reason or another has gone wrong. Roman Catholic social workers recognize the change that has taken place from the days when education was the distinctive function of the home-first, on the mother's knee, and then beside the father in the fields to the present time, when this function has largely been institutionalized and schools for the most part exercise this responsibility.

Two Views On The Federal Narcotics Law Problem: Ii - Need For An Effective Treatment And Education Program In The Federal Narcotics Law, Howard W. Jordan

Cleveland State Law Review

Our interest in the extent and nature of the narcotics problem stems from our experience as a social worker and probation officer over a number of years in trying to supervise narcotic users on probation. However, our interest was crystallized in 1951 at the increased number of such cases appearing in our court since 1950, and we became genuinely alarmed. As a result of staff discussion and interest, we were authorized by the chief probation officer, Richard J. McManus, to study this problem and to conduct a preliminary survey of the problem in the State of Ohio. The study pointed …

A Study Of The Effect Of The Assessment Ratio On State Aid For Public Schools In Northampton County, Virginia, Paul Gray Watson Jr.

Master's Theses

Since it is commonly recognized that real estate is the prime source of locally taxable wealth and that assessment values are the only controlled values in the assessment ratio, the problem was (1) to determine whether assessment values in the assessment ratio actually represented assessment values of the county as a whole; (2) to apply the information in (1) above to whether errors were made in determining the true value of locally taxable wealth in Northampton County which could affect the distribution of state educational monies to the county and hence to other localities as well.

Public school education is …

Juvenile Delinquency: Approaches And Treatment, Nancy Fischer May 1954

Juvenile Delinquency: Approaches And Treatment, Nancy Fischer

Senior Scholar Papers

One of the most critical problems facing the American nation today is the delinquency of its children and adolescents. It is questlonable whether there is a greater problem today than in the past. The problem has been brought out in the open now through the action of our law enforcement agencies and social service organisation, while in earlier times few statistics were available concerning delinquency. Even today, many deliquent children escape the attention of the law or are in such a favorable situation in the community that their misdemeanore are passed by. Dr. Paul Tappan states: "All, or at least …

A Study Of Administrative Policies And Procedures For Girls' Physical Education In Selected Secondary Schools Of Southern Utah, Ann L. Lamb

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Each person in education from the Commissioner of Education down to the classroom teacher is concerned with administration. Each has administrative duties. The way these duties are conducted and carried out will have a direct influence on the outcome of any physical education program and each child within this program.

Through the Tenth Amendment responsibility for the administration of education has been turned over to the various states. Most of the states through their constitutions place the responsibility upon the legislature to provide for organization and maintenance of public school systems. This body then draws up the statutory laws and …

A Study Of Elementary Physical Education At The Whittier School, Logan, Utah, Phyllis C. Jacobson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Since the First World War, there has been an increased recognition for the need of physical education in the elementary school. Although educators recognize and agree on the need, they are not in agreement as to how to best achieve this need. Some educators believe that physical education should be taught as a specialized subject. Through this means, instruction is provided by a specialist who is trained in physical education. Some educators believe that physical education should be integrated with every other phase of the school program and taught by the classroom teacher. There are other educators who believe that …
