Aliso: A Journal of Systematic and Floristic Botany
This article traces the early history of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, California, starting ca. 1867 with the Portolà Expedition. The expedition was the first to record the site where the botanic garden later came to be located, in Santa Ana Canyon, northeastern Orange County. Successive changes in land ownership eventually led to the Bixby family purchasing the land in 1875. Susanna Bixby Bryant, the founder of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, acquired the land in 1925.

(1977) Philosophy In The Classroom: A Response To Wilson, Levinson And Moore, Philip C. Guin
Collected Papers of Philip C. Guin
In response to reviews of Philosophy in the Classroom (Matthew Lipman, Ann Margaret Sharp, and Frederick S. Oscanyan, 1977) by John Wilson, Daniel Levinson, and J.T. Moore (Teaching Philosophy 2(3/4): 392-395, attached here) Guin notes that the book was written for teachers, prospective teachers, administrators, and others preparing to implement an elementary program in philosophy without previous training in logic, epistemology, or ethics, and that the author’s claims are not speculative, but reflect documented achievements. He argues that the book is well-suited for teachers anxious to learn how to get at the ideas embedded in a philosophical novel, how …

New York City School Decentralization: The Respective Powers Of The City Board Of Education And The Community School Boards, Kenneth R. Mcgrail
Fordham Urban Law Journal
The city of New York constitutes a single school district and the city Board of Education is charged with the general management and control of educational affairs in the city school district. Local school boards existed within the city school district but functioned largely advisory roles until the State Legislature began restructuring the New York City School District in 1968 and major legislation changed the city district into a decentralized system. The change resulted from the belief that community-base school …
