An integrated curriculum is an instructional approach that connects the disciplines to an underlying theme or topic. Immersing students in an integrated-thematic unit provides the backdrop for experiences to occur across the disciplines. The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) at the University of Malaya was established in 1994 and currently offers two main undergraduate degree programmes (Bachelor of Computer Science [BCS] and Bachelor of Information Technology) and four Master programmes (Master of Computer Science, Master of Software Engineering, Master of Information Technology and Master of Library and Information Science [MLIS]). Each degree programmes provide opportunities for specialisation. Improving Language Skills At The Harker-Wylie Elementary School Through The Science Content Area., Joseph M. Poedubicky

This report describes a program to improve language skills for the elementary students, grade one through grade six, at the Harker-Wylie Elementary School. Review of students reading placement, based on Ginn Criteria Reference Test scores, indicated that 46 percent of students are reading below grade level. On the language subtest of the 1988 California Achievement Test, 44 percent of the students scored below the 50th normal curve equivalent.

The following factors were identified in this Research Project as possible causal factors: a single instructional methodology used for the teaching of reading, the limited usage of the language arts experience approach …
