K-8 Elearning During The Covid-19 Pandemic: "Spreading" Best Practices, Michelle A. Johnson

College of Education Theses and Dissertations

In March of 2020, schools were abruptly forced to close their doors for in-person learning due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Schools quickly adjusted to online learning in order to continue educating students. This was a drastic change for both teachers and students, and hugely impacted all stakeholders. The purpose of this study is to identify key components of a K-8 eLearning program and offer best practices recommendations for implementing an effective eLearning program based on data collected from St. John the Evangelist School (SJE) and existing literature. It can be used as a guide for K-8 administrators in developing …

Library Photo Series, David Mccaslin

COVID-19 @ Whittier (full list of items)

This photo series depicts the empty Wardman Library during the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in campus wide closing of buildings. The library was a popular and busy spot for students and faculty to study, collaborate with other students, do research, print and scan documents, and attend speaker events. The library often hosted educational workshops on how to use the databases and how to find resources for classes and research. The empty space is particularly jarring, considering the popularity of the library for Whittier students, and the signage highlights the precautions taken to maintain a safe environment for the Whittier College …

Practising Intimate Labour: Birth Doulas Respond During Covid-19, Angela N. Castañeda, Julie Johnson Searcy Apr 2021

Practising Intimate Labour: Birth Doulas Respond During Covid-19, Angela N. Castañeda, Julie Johnson Searcy

Sociology & Anthropology Faculty publications

Birth doulas provide non-medical intimate support to pregnant people and their families. This support starts at the very foundation of life – breath. Doulas remind, encourage and accompany people through labour by breathing with them. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted doulas’ intimate work, and they are forced to navigate new restrictions surrounding birth practices. Based on data collected from a qualitative survey of over five-hundred doulas as well as subsequent follow-up interviews with select doulas, we find intimacy at births disrupted and reshaped. We suggest that an analysis of doulas provides a unique way to think through the …

Non-Traditional Means Of Worship, Courtney Ann Blanchard Apr 2021

Non-Traditional Means Of Worship, Courtney Ann Blanchard

Masters Theses

The purpose of worship is to praise the God of all and give Him thanks for all He has done. Based on the Old Testament and the New Testament, one thing is certain: God has always desired to have a relationship with His people. However, it was not until the death, resurrection, and ascension of God’s only Son that believers could worship God freely. Now, worship is unhindered. Jesus Christ broke every chain and has become the bridge-way for all God’s people to have a free relationship with Him. This research paper will uncover the biblical principles discovered in the …

The Case For The Rodeo: An Analysis Of The Houston Livestock Show And Rodeo’S Inverse Condemnation Case Against The City Of Houston, Emilio R. Longoria

St. Mary's Law Journal

On March 11, 2020, Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, (the Mayor) forced the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to close in order to slow the transmission rate of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). This use of the Mayor’s police powers caused a severe economic disruption, which the Rodeo is still recovering from today. This Article makes the case that the City’s forced closure of the Rodeo was a compensable taking under the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and Article 1, Section 17 of the Texas Constitution—regardless of the fact the City acted pursuant to its police powers. Such a finding …

The Effects Of Patient-Physician Interaction Time On Overall Visit Satisfaction And Prevention Of Physician Burnout, Miranda Sheridan Apr 2021

The Effects Of Patient-Physician Interaction Time On Overall Visit Satisfaction And Prevention Of Physician Burnout, Miranda Sheridan

Senior Honors Theses

With an increasingly commercialized healthcare setting, today’s physicians are often forced to reduce their patient examination times drastically. There has also been a greater shift in the administration of primary care to allied health professionals such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. However, these changes may not be sustainable in the long-term. This study investigates the relationship between time spent with a physician (M.D. or D.O.) during an examination and overall patient satisfaction. Moreover, mental health concerns, namely burnout, have become more prevalent among physicians. Studying this under the lens of accelerated modern medicine could help shed light on strategies …

The Book Of Mormon: A Powerful Model For Distance Education, Adam R. Jardine

Religious Educator: Perspectives on the Restored Gospel

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many within the Church Educational System to participate in online delivery for classroom instruction. Success has varied, and many teachers have faced not only the difficulties of a new and possibly unfamiliar delivery method but also the challenge of becoming online course designers. The realities of COVID-19 forced educational systems, both secular and religious, to pivot their educational strategy, causing online delivery to become the primary educational delivery method in many areas. What many educators initially experienced during the pandemic was not regular online delivery, but rather “emergency remote teaching.” Though the COVID-19 pandemic produced …
