A Report On Preparing The Council On East Asian Libraries’S (Ceal) Statement On Collection Development And Acquisition Amid The Covid-19 Pandemic: In Collaboration With The North American Coordinating Council On Japanese Library Resources (Ncc) And The Society Of Chinese Studies Librarians (Scsl), Fabiano Takashi Rocha
Journal of East Asian Libraries
The COVID-19 pandemic forced libraries to close temporarily halting the access to physical collections. As a result, many libraries started reformulating or implementing collection development policies that favour the acquisition of electronic formats. Given the low, and in some cases nonexistent, availability of resources in electronic formats in the non-English publishing realm, concerns were raised by several area studies organizations about the equity and representation in collection development and acquisition. This report provides insight on how the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL) , along with the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) and the Society of …

Franco-American COVID-19 Experiences in Maine Collection
For Halloween 2020, Juliana L'Heureux and her husband Richard got creative with their meal prep, creating Jack-O-Lantern style stuffed peppers. Juliana says:
"In the COVID-19 environment, we are preparing many more creative recipes at home, rather than eating out. These peppers can be "stuffed" with any favorite mixture or vegan combo.
We use lean ground beef (90 percent lean) sautéed with onion, garlic, cooked rice and diced tomatoes- salt and pepper to taste. We blanched the peppers after carving the faces, using a very small carving knife. Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Add just …

Systemic inequity concerning the social determinants of health has been known to affect morbidity and mortality for decades. Significant attention has focused on the individual-level demographic and co-morbid factors associated with rates and mortality of COVID-19. However, less attention has been given to the county-level social determinants of health that are the main drivers of health inequities. To identify the degree to which social determinants of health predict COVID-19 cumulative case rates at the county-level in Georgia, we performed a sequential, cross-sectional ecologic analysis using a diverse set of socioeconomic and demographic variables. Lasso regression was used to identify variables …

Research And Data Mining During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Hale Z. Toklu, Rakesh Prashad
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
With the recent advances in information and technology systems, most developed countries have invested in building advanced systems for the management of electronic medical records. If the infrastructure of these systems are well designed, they both serve as an information resource for routine patient care and also serve as the primary backbone for medical research. This evidence became clear during the recent coronavirus pandemic, which has been a worldwide challenge since the beginning of 2020. Rapid spread of SARS–CoV-2 infections all over the world has resulted in tremendous health, economic and social ramifications, including social distancing, travel restrictions and closing …

Regional forecasts provide state and local leaders and businesses with short-term expectations of the trajectory of recovery. Forecasts incorporate national economic outlooks prepared by the University of Michigan's Research Seminary in Quantitative Economics (RSQE), the US Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Outlooks, and from other vendors such as Moody's Analytics. State level outlooks draw from the Maine Consensus Economic Forecast Committees (CEFC), state specific research and data, and other assumptions. Regional forecasts are prepared using a seven region 80 sector economic model developed by Regional Economic Modeling Inc. (REMI) and are provided for the state and regions that closely coincide with …

The urgency to develop a vaccine against the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) has waxed stronger in speed, scale, and scope. However, wisdom dictates that we take a vantage position and start to examine the demographic predictors of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. The objective of this study was to examine the role of health locus of control (HLOC) in the relationship between religiosity and COVID-19 vaccination intention. In a cross-sectional survey (N = 501), we found a significantly negative association between religiosity and COVID-19 vaccination intention. This relationship was partially mediated by external HLOC. Collaborative efforts with religious institutions may influence COVID-19 vaccine …

We read the article by Rohilla[1] with great interest where the authors have described that how our primary care physician colleagues can share the responsibility and can manage the psychological burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the many special groups identified by authors,[1] we would like to highlight the psychological issues related to needs of a very important subgroup, that is, “Migrant workers.”[2],[3] The migrant population is already very vulnerable and in addition to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has brought tremendous challenges for this population

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The infection started as an outbreak of pneumonia-like symptoms in Wuhan, China. Within a few weeks, it spread across the entire globe resulting in millions of cases and thousands of deaths. While respiratory symptoms and complications are well-defined and can be severe, non-respiratory symptoms of COVID-19 are increasingly being recognized. Gastrointestinal manifestations such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain have been added to the list of common COVID-19 symptoms. Their prevalence has been increasing, probably due to increased recognition and experience with the pandemic. Furthermore, …

The purpose of this formative evaluation was to explore the effectiveness of a Bachelor of Science in Health Systems Management (BS HSMT) program in supporting student success through gathering information that led to recommendations for program improvement. The evaluation setting was a public university in the southeastern United States that began enrolling students in the BS HSMT in the fall semester 2017. The BS HSMT was developed to meet the local workforce need for professionals trained in health management and to offer a non-clinical bachelor’s degree for students not competitive or not admitted to their first-choice selective major (described in …

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected almost all the countries globally, and it is considered a global pandemic. Hence, this study conducted a bibliometric analysis of scientific output on the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak using the Web of Science (WoS) database. A specific search technique was developed based on Corona virus-related keywords from January 1, 2019, until June 24, 2020. A total of 10850 documents related to COVID-19 published from January 1, 2019, to June 24, 2020, were retrieved from the WoS database. The researchers downloaded the data from WoS as a WoS plain text file, and the data …

Research on the relationship between work stress and employee creativity has been mixed. This study on 823 female attorneys in China identifies employee creative self-efficacy and employees’ value of Zhongyong as moderators in this relationship. In this study, work stress is assessed by the perceived work uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study found that although Zhongyong, which involves an employee’s ambidextrous thinking, can be helpful for employee creativity, low levels of Zhongyong are better for employee creativity in an uncertain context such as the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the fact that high levels of Zhongyong result in …
