Analysis Of Benefits Of An Expansion To Udot's Incident Management Program, Logan Stewart Bennett
Theses and Dissertations
In 2018 the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) funded a study in which data were collected to evaluate performance measures for UDOT's Incident Management Team (IMT) program. After that study was completed, UDOT received funding to expand the size of its IMT program. Additionally, TransSuite, a data source used by the UDOT Traffic Operations Center to log incident-related data, was reconfigured to provide a higher quantity of performance measure data. This study made use of the new data source, in addition to Computer Aided Dispatch logs provided by the Utah Highway Patrol that were used in the first study, to …

What Sources Of Data Did Teachers Use To Inform Remote Teaching Under Covid-19?, Anne-Marie Chase, Kathryn Richardson, Nathanael Reinertsen
Digital learning research
The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted education systems worldwide, forcing teachers to find new ways to teach students when physical attendance at school was not possible. Our study investigated how teachers gathered and used data to understand and cater for the diverse educational needs of students in remote learning. We surveyed teachers to understand the challenges faced by emergency remote teaching (ERT) and how they gathered and used existing data to meet their students’ needs. While some teachers had experienced online learning as students, few had taught remotely or online. This meant that teachers had limited experience on which to draw when …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed educational institutions to adopt digital learning for an extended period. This research studies the effectiveness of digital learning practices based on student feedback data collected for two Information Systems design courses: human interaction design and solution architecture design. This paper leverages the data to analyze the effectiveness of a set of digital learning practices: ZOOM lectures, polling or Kahoot questions, self-reflection, virtual exercises and virtual mentorship. Our research questions are on the effectiveness of these learning practices to keep the student’s interest and learn the course materials. The research compares each learning practice and the …

Working Memory As A Predictor Of Social Distancing And Face Mask Compliance During Covid-19 Pandemic, Cassandra Jean Kemmel
Working Memory As A Predictor Of Social Distancing And Face Mask Compliance During Covid-19 Pandemic, Cassandra Jean Kemmel
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many changes in daily lives around the world. In the United States, face masks and social distancing rules have been suggested and even enforced in areas throughout the country. Compliance with these regulations will in turn, hopefully, reduce transmission and therefore the threat of the COVID-19 virus. Working memory (WM) has been found to be an integral part of the decision-making process, by assessing costs and benefits, both individually and for others. In May 2019, Xie, Campbell, and Zhang (2020) found that WM capabilities were predictive of social distancing compliance. The purpose of this …

COVID-19 brought unprecedented challenges in accessing healthcare services. The lack of accessibility to healthcare drastically impacted older adults, especially those in rural America, who experienced multiple issues accessing quality care with an increase in healthcare cost leading to a significant increase in morbidity and mortality rate from COVID-19. Consequently, the usage of telehealth services skyrocketed during the pandemic. As a result, the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) emerged with the aim to promote the use of telehealth services to reduce COVID-19 exposure to older adults in rural North Dakota (ND). Thereby keeping older adults safe at home and still having …

Debt Expansion As "Relief And Rescue" At The Time Of The Covid-19 Pandemic: Insights From The Legal Theory Of Finance, Iris Hse-Yu Chiu, Andreas Kokkinis, Andrea Miglionico
Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies
In Section II, we discuss the relief and rescue policies in the US, UK, and EU and show how they have been advanced by legal elasticity in suspensions from normal private and regulatory law. Crucially, such legal elasticity is intended to facilitate an increased debt burden for corporations and households as a means of relief and rescue. We argue that this policy choice, which is startlingly similar in these developed jurisdictions, has been influenced by the contexts of financialization in these jurisdictions and the perception of temporary duration by policy makers. However, there is a need to critically interrogate the …

Exploring Communication Strategies Used By Speech-Language Pathologists And Nursing Professionals Prior To And During The Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic, Madeline Baretta
Master's Theses
In 2019, a novel virus was discovered and spread resulting in a global pandemic. Individuals with severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) experienced critical illnesses such as pneumonia, hypoxemic respiratory failure/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and complications from prolonged hospitalization (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2020e). Some individuals with severe cases required mechanical ventilation in the acute care setting (Bernstein, 2020). Due to the rapidly evolving nature of the pandemic, this study was developed to better understand the practices of speech-language pathologists (SLPs), nursing professionals, and healthcare organizations prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic with particular …

Turnover among new nurses is rampant within the health care industry and generated significant costs for organizations and the nursing profession. The overall aim of this dissertation is to understand the career choice motivations of nurses through a framework that link initial choice motives with eventual turnover intent. A broader management understanding of the experiences and attitudes of nurses in various situations will inform healthcare organizations as to the performance management strategies to develop for employee retention. COVID-19 has accelerated an already urgent need for telehealth in the United States. While health care systems have been providing telehealth for years, the number of providers and patients who need to participate in telehealth has ballooned overnight. Though telehealth has been in use for a while, the geriatric population seems to be disadvantaged, especially those who reside in rural settings. Due to increased COVID 19 cases among the elderly population in North Dakota, the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) allocated a grant to the University of North Dakota to promote telehealth in the elderly receiving homecare services in rural …

“Nobody makes it alone. Nobody has made it alone” (NOVA SHRM & Dulles SHRM, 2012, p. 5). Mentoring generally has positive outcomes, such as increasing output, staying in work or school, increasing confidence, and others (Campbell & Campbell, 2007; Crisp & Cruz, 2009; Eby et al., 2008; NASEM, 2019; Pfund et al., 2016). This dissertation study focused on student perceived needs for peer mentorship in engineering, which can fill in gaps of traditional mentorship by pairing mentors and mentees at similar levels, increasing comfort and emotional support to mentees (Allen et al., 2017; Haggard et al., 2011; Kram & Isabella, …

Previous research has shown that diversity in the workplace can have varying effects, depending on how well organizations manage their workforce diversity (Mor Barak et al., 2016). When organizations properly manage their workforce, they can reap the benefits of diversity while avoiding the pitfalls. Diversity training interventions are one way many organizations choose to manage their diverse workforces effectively while creating organizational climates of inclusion (Kalinoski et al., 2013). The present study explored the impact of four different diversity training interventions designed to promote greater awareness of gender and racial bias in academia and to promote bias reduction efforts. Compared …

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) run the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The pesantren learning system is generally carried out collectively, with an all-day-long interaction between teachers and students. This paper presented a lesson on controlling COVID-19 outbreak in pesantren through Community Service Activities (CSA). The CSA was designed to empower the pesantren to prevent and control COVID-19 to become a safe place protected from COVID-19 spread. This was a relevant case study in a traditional Islamic boarding school (salafiah) in Lebak District, Banten. The study population (a total of 97 participants) consisted of the pesantren leader, the teachers (“Ustaz/Ustazah”) , and …
