Law School Exams During A Pandemic: One Law School’S Experience, Beth Parker
Law School Exams During A Pandemic: One Law School’S Experience, Beth Parker
Seattle Journal of Technology, Environmental, & Innovation Law
In 2020, toward the end of the spring semester, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted life across the globe. Institutions, including law schools, felt the widespread effects of this public health crisis. Law schools were forced to move entire curriculums online in record time and consider how they were going to administer final exams. There is no precedent or manual for how to do this successfully. Law school exams are inherently stressful events in a law student’s career because their performance on the exam inordinately influences their grades and class rankings. Typically, law students are already on edge during final exams without …

Combating Covid-19 Infodemic In Nigerian Rural Communities: The Imperatives Of Traditional Communication Systems, Joseph M. Lucas, Tordue Simon Targema, Abubakar Jibril, Elkanah Obadiah Sambo, Bako Ali Istifanus
ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December 2019, substantial attention has been devoted to combating the infodemic that has come to characterize it with the potential to prevent its effective containment. This is undoubtedly a very difficult task, especially in Nigerian rural communities that are characterized by severe lack of the requisite facilities to access information on modern media platforms, compounded by high illiteracy and poverty rates. This study presents a case for the utilization of people-oriented, traditional communication systems in combatting the infodemic at the grassroots level. It contends that, given the peculiarities of the country’s rural settlements, traditional …

Community Engagement In Covid-19 Responses: Evidence From Qualitative Interface With Community Opinion Leaders In Enugu, Nigeria, Prince Agwu, Chinweoke Methodius Ugwu, Chidera Florence Eke
ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement
Successful stories of community engagement existed during the Ebola disease outbreak in Liberia, indicating that a combination of government and community efforts are needed in addressing pandemics or epidemics. However, for communities to rise to the challenge of containing and combatting the spread of any disease, they must be communicated most effectively and supported by the government. Therefore, our study investigates how applicable successful community engagement has been in the charge against the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Nigeria. Through telephone interviews, we sourced data from 12 community opinion leaders in Enugu State, Nigeria. After conducting a thematic analysis of …

Let Nutrition Be Your Vaccine Amid Covid-19- A Narrative Review, Vidya Rajesh
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
There has been a growing body of evidence highlighting the radical effect of nutrition on the immune system and disease susceptibility. The current COVID-19 crisis awakens an urgent calling for optimum nutrition which boosts immunity and prevents diseases, just like a vaccine. Though there have been several national guidelines regarding diet during COVID-19, there has been sparse research and literature available in this field. This review aims to summarise the existing evidence on various aspects of nutrition and immunity pertaining to the COVID-19 crisis. Literature and search strategy included PubMed and Google Scholar for articles on various aspects of nutrition …

The Indonesian government imposed a large-scale social restriction policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This policy affected the community, including mothers, and may have caused psychological strain on them. This study aimed to (i) establish a dataset on the psychological distress reported by mothers in Indonesia and (ii) identify demographic factors and pandemic-related characteristics that determine psychological distress. An online survey was administered from April 20 to April 25, 2020, and 1534 surveys were submitted. Bivariate and multivariate regression models were constructed to examine the associations between sociodemographic variables, depression, anxiety, and stress. The results demonstrated that the level …

Every life is precious and every patient matters: In a country with 5.5 government beds for 10,000 population, even a marginal increase in hospitalization increases the pressure on the system exponentially. The spread of COVID-19 has kindled the need for transformation from traditional face-to-face doctorpatient communication to a telehealth platform. During the lockdown, reduced access to both outpatient and hospitalization services is proving to be fatal for countless non-covid patients. Taking lead in addressing the health care needs and demands of the society we cater to, E-consultation which has been initiated by most of the medical colleges providing tertiary care, …

The SARS-CoV-2 virus spreading across the world has led to surges of COVID-19 illness, hospitalizations, and death. The complex and multifaceted pathophysiology of life-threatening COVID-19 illness including viral mediated organ damage, cytokine storm, and thrombosis warrants early interventions to address all components of the devastating illness. In countries where therapeutic nihilism is prevalent, patients endure escalating symptoms and without early treatment can succumb to delayed in-hospital care and death. Prompt early initiation of sequenced multidrug therapy (SMDT) is a widely and currently available solution to stem the tide of hospitalizations and death. A multipronged therapeutic approach includes 1) adjuvant nutraceuticals, …

We propose a learning innovation called 3-in-1 Hybrid environment as a solution for educational institutions to meet the challenge of balancing campus reopening against public health risks amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Our proposed innovation provides students options to attend class synchronously (either face-to-face or remote) or asynchronously (online) in an interactive learning environment that promotes emotional, behavioral, and cognitive engagement. We designed and implemented a large Marketing Management class with over 800 students as a 3-in-1 course. We examined its effectiveness in an empirical study and found that (1) students have a positive attitude toward 3-in-1 Hybrid learning; (2) they …

COVID-19 has challenged education systems globally. Traditional teaching and learning activities of more than 1,300 vocational colleges and nearly 11,000 vocational high schools in China have had to be paused and transformed into an online mode. Innovation in the medical device industry is crucial to continuously improve the health and wellbeing of society. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical devices on the market while balancing the need for continuous innovation. One way the FDA has tried to support innovation is through the development of the 510(k) pathway, which does not require clinical testing as the safety of the device is determined based on a predicate device. Many companies choose to develop products that can obtain approval through the 510(k) pathway. While the 510(k) pathway is …

The SARS-CoV-2 virus outbreak has underscored numerous weak links in our biodefense countermeasures against highly communicable diseases. Many believe it was our lack of an effective testing model that allowed the virus to become a global pandemic within a short period. The gold standard collection method for the SARS-CoV-2 virus involves mechanical debridement of the nasopharyngeal cavity with a stiff swab applicator, which has been known to cause pain and injury to patients, subsequently resulting in low patient acceptance of the procedure. Due to the invasive nature of the nasopharyngeal swab collection method, it may not be conducive to the …
