Caffeine is a commonly used ergogenic aid and has been shown to improve acute athletic performance, such as speed, strength, and endurance. However, research exploring the effects of chronic caffeine use on sporting performance is limited, especially in Division I (DI) collegiate baseball players.  PURPOSE: This is an observational study exploring the patterns of caffeine use among collegiate baseball players and analyzing how chronic caffeine intake affects specific measures of baseball performance. Addressing Mental Health In College Athletics: Developing A Mindfulness-Centered Curricular Intervention For Student-Athletes And Coaches, Douglas W. Lampman

Rising rates of mental health concerns among collegiate student-athletes have intensified calls for a more holistic approach to athlete development and well-being.  While student-athletes regularly interact with coaches and educators, few curricular interventions explicitly address mental and emotional wellness in the athletic context.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the development, implementation, and perceived impact of a mindfulness-centered approach and curriculum.  This curriculum is designed explicitly for collegiate student-athletes and coaches.  Grounded in mindfulness-based pedagogy, the curriculum addressed stress management, emotion regulation, interpersonal relationships, performance anxiety, and personal growth.

This research furthers the conversation surrounding holistic female student-athlete wellness, recognizing that their experiences can be inequitable – influenced by the intersectionality of race, gender, and athletic identity (Armstrong et al., 2018; Druckman et al., 2018; Neeley et al., 2021). This research accredits the physical environments where athletes train, recover, and connect as an underexplored factor in holistic well-being.

This quantitative study investigated the correlation between student participation in athletic-based extracurricular activities and academic performance among high school students in rural Indiana. The research sought to determine whether athletic involvement contributes to academic success indicators such as PSAT and SAT scores, and school attendance. The study looked at how athletics can serve as a lever for improving academic outcomes and supporting students in meeting the criteria for postsecondary readiness. This study investigated the mechanical adjustments made by elite long jumpers during the middle phase of the approach run. Kinematic data from the 5 senior Indian national level long jumpers (Personal Best:7.83±0.63m) with five high speed cameras (at resolution 1920s1080 with 120 frame per second). Further all the motion were quantified with Quintic (v.33). It was revealed that athletes maintained consistent step lengths while introducing subtle variations to manage velocity effectively. Study observed, some changes in torso touch-down angles; especially at 4LS were observed, indicating conscious efforts to optimize control without sacrificing step length. Biomechanical Analysis Of Elite Javelin Thrower Of Pakistan, Muhammad Tahir Nazeer Dr, Muhammad Ahmad Tahir, Rabia Walee

This study investigated the biomechanical factors influencing javelin throwing performance among elite Pakistani athletes. Eight national-level male throwers were analyzed using 3D motion capture during the 2024 National Athletics Championships. Key variables included release velocity components, approach run velocity, pull distance, and phase durations. Results showed that vertical release velocity and approach run velocity at right foot touchdown (R-on) were significantly correlated with throwing distance (r = 0.672, p < .05 and r = 0.596, p < .05, respectively). No significant correlations were observed for pull distance, step length, or phase durations. Findings suggest that elite performance relies on maximizing vertical release while maintaining sufficient horizontal speed, emphasizing the importance of individualized technical training in Pakistan’s javelin development programs.

The purpose of this study was to identify changes in the kinematics and kinetics of sprinting through the development of sprint performance in a male sprinter over four years. In the experiment, a male sprinter performed a 60-m sprint during which ground reaction forces and running motion were measured using a long force platform system and a motion capture system, respectively. The participant improved his 200-m personal record by 1.17 s over the four years. The characteristics of changes in the kinematics and kinetics of sprinting varied across the years. This study evaluated the agreement between OpenPose markerless and marker-based methods in analyzing sprint start performance. Four male students performed ten sprint starts. The Bland-Altman test for average center of mass (COM) horizontal velocity from the beginning motion to 1-m position of the OpenPose markerless method showed a fixed bias of -0.02 m/s, 95% limits of agreement (LoA) from −0.10 to 0.06 m/s, and a proportional bias of r = −0.47. For the 1-m running time, fixed bias was −0.00 s, 95% LoA ranged from −0.09 to 0.09 s, and proportional bias was r = 0.39. In the calculation of …

The aim of this study was to clarify the effect of implementing the new long-jump rule with a takeoff zone, which is currently proposed by World Athletics, on the approach-run and takeoff movements. Ten male collegiate jumpers specializing in horizontal jumping events participated in the experiment. The present study aimed to clarify the changes in arm and leg swing between the early and late phases of a 400 m sprint. Nine male and eight female sprinters performed a 400 m sprint at maximum effort. Inertial measurement units were attached to the distal thighs and forearms to quantify arm and leg swing. The purpose of this study was to examine the intermuscular distribution of hamstring muscle volume, muscle excitation, and torque production capacity of hip extensors in power-trained (sprint-based) athletes compared to a strength-trained control group. We found higher semitendinosus volume in the power-trained group. The electromyography activity increased with increasing contraction velocity only in the power-trained group, with significant between-group differences observed in the semitendinosus and biceps femoris at high velocity hip extension. Power-trained athletes were stronger during concentric contractions, particularly at high contraction velocities. Spatiotemporal sprint parameters play a crucial role in analyzing and optimizing sprint performance. While well-documented in average-height athletes, little research exists on individuals with dwarfism. This study examines sprint kinematics in adults with achondroplasia during the World Dwarf Games 2023, providing new insights into their biomechanical adaptations. The analysis explores key relationships between kinematic variables, revealing that athletes with achondroplasia rely more on step frequency, likely compensating for shorter limb lengths, compared to average-height sprinters. This research offers initial reference values for sprint performance in this population and will inform training and rehabilitation programs tailored to their specific biomechanical needs.

This study aimed to characterize shoulder joint moments and force application patterns in static and dynamic campus exercises. Campus exercises are upper-body plyometric movements performed on a ladder-like training board, where climbers ascend using only their arms, without foot support. Twenty advanced/elite climbers performed five trials of each exercise on an instrumented two-rung campus board. Shoulder joint moments on the 3 planes of motion and vertical forces for each limb were computed across the exercise cycles and time series were compared. This thesis includes how sports evangelism operates and develops conceptually, evaluating the program Wandering Wheels as a qualitative case study. Wandering Wheels was a cycling program that began in Upland, IN in 1964 to illustrate the toughness of the Christian life. Drawing on oral histories, archival records, and documentary material, it argues that community, activism, athletic maturation, and personal spiritual growth were pivotal to Wandering Wheels' model. This evaluation demonstrates the extent to which this program exemplified the concept of sports evangelism.

The achievement gap between rural and non-rural schools is persistent. This study examines the achievement gap problem by analyzing two groups of rural schools to better understand their ecologies and the inner workings of rural schools.
