Bulletin No. 286 - Some Trends In Utah's Agriculture, Walter U. Fuhriman Jan 1939

Bulletin No. 286 - Some Trends In Utah's Agriculture, Walter U. Fuhriman

UAES Bulletins

During the last two decades agriculture has been subjected to many strains and stresses- social, economic, physical, and biological. Infestations of noxious weeds and insect pests have in some instances necessitated changes in crops grown and in farming practices. Changes in precipitation have induced alternate expansion and contraction of cultivated acreage in certain areas. Improved machinery has reduced the demand for farm labor, caused shifts in crops grown and in farm population. Changes in dietary habits have increased the demand for some farm commodities and decreased the demand for others, while wide fluctuations in farm prices have wrought rapid changes …

Bulletin No. 282 - Pioneering In Western Agriculture

UAES Bulletins

A resume of the First Half-Century of Research 1888 - 1938 at the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station including the Biennial Report 1936 - 1938.

The Utah Agricultural Experiment Station in reaching the fiftieth year of its history can look back upon a brilliant record of achievement covering the practical as well as the more fundamental problems of agriculture in this arid state. The difficulties encountered in conquering deserts down through human history have demonstrated the mastery of man's spirit over his physical environment. Man's destiny to multiply, subdue, and replenish the earth cannot be accomplished by enjoying the fruits of …

How The 1938 Agricultural Conservation Program Applies To South Dakota Farms, Extension Service, South Dakota State College Of Agriculture And Mechanic Arts

SDSU Extension Circulars

Objectives of the 1938 Agricultural Conservation Program – The Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 authorizes features of the 1938 program which are designed to stabilize and improve the income of farmers. Farm incomes in South Dakota are adversely affected both by years of excessive production and years of short crops. This year's program provides for: (1) soil conservation and the prevention of erosion by wind and water: (2) national acreage allotments to provide for the domestic and export demands of food and fiber plus adequate reserves for carryover; (3) storage of reserves on the farm by means of commodity loans, …

Effects Of Inflation And Deflation Upon Nebraska Agriculture, 1914 To 1932, H. Clyde Filley Jun 1934

Effects Of Inflation And Deflation Upon Nebraska Agriculture, 1914 To 1932, H. Clyde Filley

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

This study attempts to give the effects of war-time inflation and the subsequent deflation upon Nebraska agriculture. It presents statistical evidence of what happened. It is too late to prevent the present depression. Information concerning the situation may aid in promoting recovery. It is hoped that a knowledge of the inflation of 1916 to 1920 and the depression following may aid in avoiding the making of similar errors in the future.

Oat Production In Alaska, F. L. Higgins Jun 1932

Oat Production In Alaska, F. L. Higgins

Bulletin

The oat crop occupies an important place on the farms in interior Alaska, especially in the Matanuska Valley and the Fairbanks region of the Tanana Valley. The crop is used chiefly for hay. It is one of the more important grain crops in the system of diversified farming recommended for Alaska by the Alaska Agricultural Experiment Stations. Good yields for hay and silage can be produced in southeastern Alaska, but production is limited (1) by the small areas of suitable land available for farming, (2) by the high cost of clearing the land, and (3) by cool, wet weather in …
