Changes In Agricultural Production And Cash Farm Income In Cache County, Utah, 1909-1949, Lavon S. Fife

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

During the period 1909-1949 many changes took place in agricultural production and cash farm income in Cache County, Utah. Important factors which caused changes in agricultural production and cash farm income during this period were technological developments in farm power and machinery, plant and animal breeding, changes in consumer demands price changes, and climatic conditions. The influence of these factors on both production and income varied with the enterprise, the commodity, and the year studied.

IRRIGATION AGRICULTURE has not received attention commensurate with its significance in either ancient or modem times. Although most ancient civilizations depended on irrigation for their very existence, one can consult volume after volume of history only to find irrigation scarcely mentioned. To the agricultural specialist the great challenge and the strength and weakness of irrigation agriculture is not in constructing Boulder Dams nor in planning winding canals and syphons to carry water from the Columbia River to California. The critical point is on the farms where water is applied to the soil and crops are harvested. There the real battles …

Agricultural Possibilities Of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, Richard E. Mccurdy, Hugh A. Johnson Mar 1951

Agricultural Possibilities Of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, Richard E. Mccurdy, Hugh A. Johnson

Bulletin

During the summer of 1950, an intensive study was made on the Kenai Peninsula to determine the extent of its agricultural development and the plans and problems of current settlers. All available settlers residing in accessible areas were interviewed. Notes were also collected concerning non-resident or absentee landholders. The resulting information consequently covers the agricultural community that has developed under existing conditions of help, hindrance and laissez faire. The study furnishes guides useful in formulating public settlement policies for the Kenai-Kasilof area and to individuals who might wish to locate in this or other sections of the Peninsula.

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Airplanes were first used in agriculture shortly after the close of World War I. They proved valuable for locating mosquito breeding areas, for forest fire patrol work, as an aid in locating outlaw cotton fields in the campaign against pink bollworm, and for surveying damage caused in large forested areas by the spruce budworm.
