Tuning Bond Exchange Rate To Control Long-Time Mobility And Creep In Vitrimer-Like Networks, Fardin Khabaz, Michel Cloitre, Kevin Barz, Patrick Cuddihy
University Research
Vitrimers relax stress through a combination of polymer mobility and associative bond exchange, but connecting exchange kinetics to microscopic dynamics and macroscopic rheology remains challenging. Many simulation schemes do not allow independent control of the exchange rate. Here we utilize a molecular dynamics–Monte Carlo simulation technique for associative networks in which the exchange attempt interval is an explicit, independently tunable control parameter, enabling systematic scans of exchange kinetics at fixed network architecture and interactions. Using mean-squared displacement and creep compliance as indicators of the microscopic dynamics and macroscopic rheology, we show that slowing the bond exchange rate delays the onset …

This study presents a waste-to-interface strategy for engineering high-performance Janus monolithic adsorbents through a circular biorefinery pathway utilizing coffee and rice residues. We demonstrate that a critical loading of 20 wt% biogenic submicron silica into a coffee-derived cellulose diacetate matrix triggers a definitive gravityinduced stratification, transforming a traditional isotropic film into a sophisticated asymmetric architecture. This Janus transition yields a superhydrophilic interface (contact angle < 5◦) and significantly enhances surface porosity, effectively bypassing the diffusion barriers that typically limit homogeneous biocomposites. Methylene Blue adsorption trials reveal that this 20 wt% threshold achieves rapid adsorption kinetics (p < 0.05) by maximizing active-site accessibility. In contrast to conventional powder adsorbents, these monolithic films enable zero-energy manual recovery, entirely eliminating the need for energy-intensive post-treatment separation. By bridging the gap between multi-feedstock valorization and anisotropic materials science, this work provides a scalable blueprint for sustainable, high-flux water remediation

Dynamic Flood Risk Assessment For Transportation Infrastructure In Fresno, Ca, Yushin Ahn, Fayzul Pasha
Dynamic Flood Risk Assessment For Transportation Infrastructure In Fresno, Ca, Yushin Ahn, Fayzul Pasha
Mineta Transportation Institute
Urban roadway flooding in flat metropolitan environments often shows up as small areas of standing water rather than large, flowing floods. In low-gradient urban environments, subtle micro-topographic features—such as pavement crowns, curbs, and localized depressions—often control where surface water accumulates following rainfall. Accurately identifying these localized ponding areas is important for roadway flood screening and infrastructure management. This study develops a LiDAR-based depression mapping framework to identify roadway segments susceptible to surface ponding in flat urban environments. High-resolution airborne LiDAR datasets were used to generate detailed elevation maps (down to less than a foot in resolution) from ground-classified point clouds …

Purpose: Recurrence risk estimates underpin meningioma research, including molecular classification and clinical trial benchmarking, yet are often based on retrospective or historical data. The aim of this study was to assess the variation of recurrence risk estimates across calendar periods, WHO classification editions, geographical settings, and healthcare systems.thetermine METHODS: We analyzed 4,111 patients with primary WHO-1/-2 meningiomas from 31 centers in 15 countries (1990-2019). Recurrence was defined according to local radiological assessment. The 5- and 10-year recurrence risks were estimated using regression standardization with inverse probability of censoring weights, adjusting for key clinical, surgical, and histopathological variables.
Results: Recurrence risk …

The Influence Of Familiarization On Countermovement Rebound Jump Metrics In Division Iii College Athletes, Kevin Kirschbaum
Doctorate in Kinesiology
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of familiarization on the strategy, outcome, and kinetic variables of the countermovement rebound jump (CMRJ) and compare these responses with those of the traditional countermovement jump (CMJ) in Division III collegiate athletes. A randomized controlled design was used in which participants were assigned to either a familiarization group that completed five consecutive CMRJ testing sessions or a control group that completed baseline and final testing only. The analyzed variables included rebound ground contact time, rebound stiffness, rebound reactive strength index (RSI), CMRJ jump height, peak propulsive force, and peak braking …

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a critical role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) by preparing students to address complex social, environmental, and economic challenges. In the literature, less attention has been paid to scalable curricular models implemented in small liberal arts colleges. This paper presents a case study of Lynn University’s Impact Series, an interdisciplinary and co-curricular initiative, intentionally integrated into the undergraduate curriculum to advance Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Drawing on institutional reports, program documentation, and attendance data from Fall 2022 through Spring 2025, the study examines how the Impact Series promotes short-term …

Post-eviction court grants tenant's OSC under RPAPL § 749(3) and restores tenant to possession forthwith. HRA one-shot-deal checks for rent arrears were mailed to wrong address after management companies changed. Court finds it inappropriate to keep tenant out of possession given HRA approval, tenant's age, longevity of rent stabilized tenancy, and the bureaucratic error. Warrant re-execution stayed pending HRA reissuance of checks.
The End-Of-Life Option Most People Don’T Know About: Is It Legal?, Pamela Bucy Pierson
The End-Of-Life Option Most People Don’T Know About: Is It Legal?, Pamela Bucy Pierson
Idaho Law Review
This article is about an end-of-life option that many people have not heard of: Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED). With VSED, a person deliberately ceases intake of food and fluid to hasten their death. VSED is a peaceful, pain-free end-of-life option chosen by an increasing number of individuals in their last chapter of life who are suffering from chronic, incurable, progressively debilitating diseases. While there is considerable scholarship on the lawfulness of VSED, there is confusion in the existing literature on whether VSED is suicide, and on the related question whether individuals who provide comfort and care to VSED …

Defamation is a more or less effective tool in tort law to stop damage to one’s reputation, which can be grievous and even lead to a death of despair, but its scope is limited to content that’s literally false. Much reputational harm does not proceed via literally false content; it is a matter of images or what’s implied. Against this opponent an effective False Light tort is of much use when properly understood as a reputational—rather than privacy—tort. False Light can be wielded against conversational implicature as well as deepfakes. It fulfills our moral imperative to not succumb to cheap …

Great Crypto Vanishing Act: Illusory Contracts And The Economic Loss Rule, Henry H. Perritt Jr.
Idaho Law Review
Cryptocurrencies have gained respectability with enactment of the federal GENIUS Act, which lays a regulatory foundation for the safest type of cryptocurrency, stablecoins, while leaving significant uncertainty with respect to unbacked crypto assets like Bitcoin and other cryptomoney and crypto investments that do not come within the GENUIS Act’s scope. The vulnerability of cryptocurrencies to wild fluctuations in value and to outright collapse are legion. The GENIUS Act may tame some actors who choose to operate within its framework, but many questions remain.
Legal remedies available to victims of cryptocurrency mishaps, from exchange collapses to issuer fraud, depend heavily on …

Flexibility And Resistance Of Family Law In France And Other European Countries In The Context Of The Internationalization Of The Family And Of Family Law, Sylwia Castillo-Wyszogrodzka
Idaho Law Review
The international mobility of individuals requires legal orders to adjust their jurisprudence and legal practice. The evolution of family law oscillates between internationalization and protection of national identity. This phenomenon is particularly striking in Europe, where individuals enjoy the right to move and reside freely within the European Union and where family law is influenced by the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The state reduces its authority to comply with new requirements and gives individuals more power to create their own family bonds. Many questions arise around the legal recognition of …

Self-Exhausting Fleet-Level Failure Pattern Detection Via Persistent Graph Coloring And Human-In-The-Loop Validation, Nilay Gupta, Wayne W Chen
Self-Exhausting Fleet-Level Failure Pattern Detection Via Persistent Graph Coloring And Human-In-The-Loop Validation, Nilay Gupta, Wayne W Chen
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are proposed herein for detecting and validating recurring failure patterns across a fleet-scale corpus of causal event graphs. A pattern-discovery engine groups taxonomy-normalized node labels and categories, computes support as the number of distinct incident graphs containing a pattern, and classifies retained patterns into new taxonomy categories and known but unvalidated patterns. Engineers confirm or reject ranked patterns through a human-in-the-loop workflow. Confirmed patterns are recorded in a persistent validated-pattern registry that is structurally independent of the graph index and reapplied after index rebuilds. The registry acts as a partial graph coloring and active-learning oracle: future discovery operates on …
