INTRODUCTION: Plasma biomarkers and mild behavioral impairment (MBI) are associated with dementia risk, but their relationships with major depressive disorder (MDD) are understudied. This study aimed to examine associations between plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and MBI among older adults with and without MDD.
METHODS: Older adults aged ≥65 were recruited from longitudinal studies of depression and AD (
RESULTS: Older adults with MDD were more likely to endorse MBI. After adjustment, Aβ42/Aβ40 and p-tau217/np-tau217 positivity were associated with MBI among those with MDD but not among those without.
DISCUSSION: Neuropsychatric symptoms (NPS) and biomarkers are AD risk factors. …

The Impact Of Congenital Heart Disease On The Timing Of Alzheimer's Disease In Down Syndrome, Julianne G Clina, Beau Ances, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
INTRODUCTION: The incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Down syndrome (DS) exceeds 90%. Approximately 50% of people with DS have congenital heart disease (CHD). Having CHD increases risk for early-onset AD in populations without DS, but it is unclear if CHD influences AD in DS.
METHODS: Data from the Alzheimer Biomarker Consortium-Down Syndrome (ABC-DS) were used. Participants with CHD (
RESULTS: People with CHD scored lower for visuospatial ability (
DISCUSSION: Presence of CHD may influence AD progression in DS.
HIGHLIGHTS: In adults with Down syndrome (DS), those with congenital heart disease (CHD) had higher amyloid beta and reached the …

INTRODUCTION: The approval of anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), including lecanemab and donanemab, represents a significant advance in disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for early Alzheimer's disease (AD). While appropriate use recommendations (AURs) have been established to guide clinical decision-making, the proportion of individuals with cognitive impairment in real-world, multiethnic populations meeting eligibility criteria remains unknown, as do potential differences in treatment-related risks across ethnic groups.
METHODS: We included 513 cognitively impaired individuals from the Health and Aging Brain Study-Health Disparities study, a multiethnic community-based cohort. Eligibility for lecanemab and donanemab was determined using published AUR criteria. Counts of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities were …

Establishing Demographic-Based Normative Values For Neurofilament Light Chain And Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein In Serum And Plasma Samples, Tyler L Borko, Salim Chahin, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Interpretation of neurofilament light chain (NfL) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) levels in blood requires reference ranges from healthy cohorts, accounting for demographic features.
OBJECTIVE: To compare serum and plasma NfL and GFAP in healthy individuals, accounting for age, sex, and body mass index (BMI).
METHODS: Adolescents through older adults were recruited at Colorado community events and a senior clinic. A neurologist reviewed self-reported medical histories. Paired serum and EDTA plasma samples were assayed using the Quanterix SR-X Simoa Neuro 4-Plex. Log-linear models estimated percent change per year of age, per BMI unit, and sex ratios. GFAP used …

2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors, classified into three WHO grades based on histologic and/or molecular criteria. cIMPACT-NOW Update 8 underscores the increasing importance of molecular testing in grading and risk stratification, noting that morphologically WHO grade 1 tumors with concurrent 1p and 22q losses demonstrate clinical behavior comparable to WHO grade 2 meningiomas. This study aimed to assess the concordance of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), and whole-exome sequencing (WES) in defining the molecular risk profile of meningiomas.
METHODS: A total of 113 meningiomas were analyzed by WHO grade to assess the …

American Loopholes: What Are They, And How Do We Close Them?, Tanner L. Martin
Wyoming Law Review
This Comment examines the existence and impact of alleged loopholes within American gun control laws and explores how these gaps may affect Constitutional rights, legal enforcement, and public safety. In addition to identifying trends in American gun ownership, including patterns of purchasing, possession, and regulatory compliance, this Comment analyzes the current legal standards that determine who is disqualified from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law. These categories include individuals with certain criminal convictions, domestic violence restrictions, or mental health adjudications, and how those legal standards are applied in practice.
Beyond the legal framework, this Comment also considers the …

Grade Assessment Types, And Student Performance In An Online Marketing Course, Vivek Madupu
AMTP Proceedings 2026
These days, asynchronous online courses are very common in business schools at universities. Online courses are attractive as they offer flexibility for students, especially working and non-traditional students. Even though online courses are widely popular, assessment design is often based more on instructor experience and intuition rather than on research evidence. In many cases, faculty rely on exams or participation-based activities without knowing how different assessment types relate to student learning and performance.

Citators In The Ai Age: Preserving The Human Component Through Court-Created Citators, Cody B. James
Citators In The Ai Age: Preserving The Human Component Through Court-Created Citators, Cody B. James
Faculty Law Review Articles
Citators have long worked behind the scenes, shaping case law and influencing how judges and lawyers view precedent. Yet their creation has been the sole realm of private publishers. As artificial intelligence (AI) is further integrated into citators’ creation, the human role is at risk of being automated. This article examines citators’ influence over substantive law, the human-in-the-loop justifications for preserving human involvement in citators’ creation, and the argument for courts to produce their own citators. By reclaiming this function, the courts can help enhance their legitimacy and preserve the human role in creating structures of legal information in the …
Enfranchising Fluoride: A Case For Democratic Decision-Making In What We Drink, Samuel N. Dick, R. Chase Bailey
Enfranchising Fluoride: A Case For Democratic Decision-Making In What We Drink, Samuel N. Dick, R. Chase Bailey
Wyoming Law Review
For years, the addition of fluoride in drinking water has been hailed as a powerful agent for dental health. But the closer you look, the more cracks appear—making the truth that much harder to swallow.
This Article is the first to look objectively at the benefits and risks of water fluoridation following Food & Water Watch, Inc. v. EPA. Notably, the court there held that fluoride poses an unreasonable risk to human health, marking a striking departure from those who, as recently as 2024, have continued to herald water fluoridation as one of the greatest public health interventions of …

The Networked City: City Climate Change Networks And U.S. Climate Governance, Caroline G. Cox
American University Law Review
City climate change networks complicate common narratives about the local role in environmental and climate change governance in the United States. These networks—organizations with three or more member cities or representative city staff that share information and resources—are crucial actors in supporting the increasing interest in local climate change mitigation. Building upon prior scholarship addressing mayor-led networks and municipal collaborations, this Article considers how city climate networks challenge notions of local parochialism and rebut some critiques of local climate action. The Article also evaluates the growing importance of these networks in light of changes in federal climate policy, including the …
Black Labor Matters, Michael Z. Green
Black Labor Matters, Michael Z. Green
American University Law Review
Black and organized workers increasingly find themselves threatened by two key outside forces: one seeking to stop anti-racism efforts via diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices and the other curtailing employees’ union organizing. This Article argues that a response must be grounded in uniquely local strategies by two specific worker coalitions. One coalition—the New Black Workers Movement (NBWM)—arose from Black Lives Matter civil rights protests in 2020 that captivated the workplace and heightened awareness about anti-Blackness and concerns of systemic racism. The other coalition—the New Labor Workers Movement (NLWM)—developed in 2020 as a workplace response to a global pandemic that …

Protecting Pregnancy: From The Pregnancy Discrimination Act To The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, L. Camille Hébert
American University Law Review
Women have long faced challenges in balancing their employment with childbearing, facing loss of employment opportunities because of their potential for pregnancy and loss of actual employment when they became pregnant. Over the past six decades, Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court have taken actions with the potential to provide equal employment opportunity for women affected by pregnancy, but those efforts have largely failed because of the actions of lower federal courts in interpreting legislation and the Court’s decisions in ways to reduce protection for pregnancy. The most recent congressional action to protect pregnancy, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, was …
Antidiscrimination Law Against Labor, Jordan Laris Cohen
Antidiscrimination Law Against Labor, Jordan Laris Cohen
American University Law Review
In recent years, employer compliance with antidiscrimination law has emerged as a major justification for limiting the rights of employees to organize and engage in collective action in the workplace. In IBM Corp., a Republican majority of the National Labor Relations Board cited “laws addressing workplace discrimination and sexual harassment” as a primary reason to deny nonunionized employees the right to a coworker representative during investigatory interviews. In General Motors, a Republican Board majority invoked antidiscrimination law in upending four decades of precedent regarding employer discipline of employees engaged in “opprobrious conduct” in the course of protected organizing …

It’S (Not All) Personal: Civil Litigation And The Values Of Rights Of Action, Hanoch Dagan, Avihay Dorfman, Issi Rosen-Zvi
American University Law Review
Existing approaches to civil litigation, both regarding its theoretical underpinnings and its practical instantiations, take diametrically opposing perspectives on the value of personal rights of action. Some view them as inviolable and thus vehemently oppose any mandatory arbitration clauses and treat class actions as presumptively dubious. Others have no principled objection to either, as they perceive personal rights of action as mere technologies that are painlessly dispensable if the substantive values underlying the claim at hand can be realized more effectively through a more efficient mechanism.
In this Article, we reject both of these ‘all or nothing’ approaches and offer …

The Lawyer Of The Future: Ethics And Identity In The Age Of Ai, David Yosifon, Michael Santoro, Isaac Nikssarian
American University Law Review
The dawn of artificial intelligence (AI) poses a fundamental challenge to the legal profession’s practical function and social identity. We argue that this challenge should be met as an opportunity to reclaim the profession’s core ethical intentions. We approach the emergence of AI as an occasion to define and safeguard what is irreducibly human in legal work. We ground our approach in the ethical imperatives set out in the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct, while extending them into an invigorated framework for the AI era.
We survey the uses and ethical challenges associated with cutting-edge deployment of …
Traveling Waves For A Diffusive Sir Epidemic Model With Delay In The Diffusion Term, William Barker
Traveling Waves For A Diffusive Sir Epidemic Model With Delay In The Diffusion Term, William Barker
Faculty Scholarship
This paper investigates the existence of traveling waves in a diffusive SIR model with delay incorporated in the diffusion terms and a nonlinear incidence rate with delay. By employing a cross-iteration scheme and partial monotonicity conditions, we establish that the existence of quasi-upper and lower solutions, along with suitable super and sub-solutions, provides sufficient conditions for the existence of a traveling wavefront. This existence result is obtained via Schauder’s fixed-point theorem. Furthermore, given an appropriate basic reproduction number, the traveling wavefront transitions from the disease-free steady state to the endemic steady state. To illustrate our approach, we explicitly construct super- …
Beyond Marriage: Challenging Marital Prerequisites In State Adoption Laws Through A Constitutional And Child-Centered Lens, Alisha Glass
Beyond Marriage: Challenging Marital Prerequisites In State Adoption Laws Through A Constitutional And Child-Centered Lens, Alisha Glass
American University Law Review
Many state adoption laws restrict joint adoptions to married couples, thus excluding unmarried partners who share loving and committed relationships with the children they seek to adopt. These marital prerequisites reflect society’s outdated preference for the nuclear family while conflicting with adoption law’s commitment to the best interests of the child. Nonmarital families experience unequal legal protections based on marital status and geographic location. Building on the Kentucky Supreme Court’s decision in G.G. v. Cabinet for Health & Family Services, this Comment examines the limits of resolving these disparities through statutory interpretation and identifies the constitutional questions that remain …
