Teachers Are Encouraging Bullshit: A Response To Kylie Medieros, Maxine Freda
Undercurrents: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Composition
Maxine Freda is a computer science major from Plympton, MA. She states that this essay—a response to Kylie Medeiros’s Undercurrents essay from last year—”was a way for me to air my grievances with the rigidly structured way the school system teaches writing in high school.” Maxine notes that this is the first essay she ever wrote where she cared so strongly about the topic. She shares that this type of writing process was “far more enjoyable and resulted in something I could be proud of.” The freedom to write about “what I want in the way that I want” was …

‘I’Ve Always Been On Call For My Sister’: An Exploration Of The Impact Of Having A Sibling With A Life Limiting Condition On The Experience Of Education, Emily Joanne Pinn
Plymouth Interdisciplinary Education Open Journal
There are currently approximately 99,000 babies, children and young people living with life-limiting conditions (LLCs) in the UK alone (Together for Short Lives, 2025b). Many of these young people will have siblings who are navigating the opportunities and challenges of having a sibling with an LLC. Despite this, there is a stark lack of research investigating the impact of being one of these siblings. As a result, this combined autoethnographic and qualitative enquiry will aim to provide an insight into how young people’s experiences of being a young carer to a sibling with an LLC impacted different elements of their …

Phosphoric Acid-Mediated Regeneration Of Sugarcane Bagasse Cellulose-Rich Fraction For Enzymatic Production Of Water-Soluble Cellulosic Oligomers, Chiou-Yeong Saw, David Agus Setiawan Wibisono, Tsung-Yen Wu, Yung Chang, Chi-Fai Chau
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
An integrated strategy was developed to promote conversion of a sugarcane bagasse cellulose-rich fraction into water-soluble cellulosic oligomers (WCOs) through phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration and enzymatic hydrolysis. Alkaline pretreatment on sugarcane bagasse powder increased glucan content from 57.6 to 93.4 g/100 g sample and lowered Klason lignin to 6.1 g/100 g sample. Phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration was subsequently capable of reorganizing the structure of cellulose from sugarcane bagasse, resulting in a decrease of crystallinity from 72.9 to 64.0% and introducing cellulose II-like features. The hydration state of regenerated cellulose strongly influenced hydrolysis performance, as the hydrated form showed significantly higher solubilization (810.4 …

A Cognitive Accessibility Framework For Mitigating Resumption Lag Using Transitional Context Lobbies, Rachit Mathur, Payal Shah
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure presents a cognitive accessibility framework designed to mitigate "resumption lag" and severe cognitive friction during task resumption in modern software ecosystems. While existing operating systems and web browsers facilitate context-switching away from tasks, they universally lack a mechanism to re-onboard users when they switch back, forcing users to manually reconstruct their working memory. To address this accessibility barrier, we introduce Transitional Context Lobbies—an additional strategic UI layer that re-orients users returning to suspended workspaces. The primary inventive step is a client-side engine utilizing Teleological Intent Parsing to translate a user's past behaviors, interactions, and browsing data into a …

Aspen Health On Cedar Mountain: What Landowners Should Know, Justin Derose, Darren Mcavoy
All Current Publications
Aspen forests are among the most valuable parts of the Cedar Mountain area in southwest Utah and of Utah's landscapes. They provide wildlife habitat, improve scenery, help slow wildfire spread, and support healthy watersheds and grazing lands. Cedar Mountain’s aspen forests are changing. The landscape still supports significant aspen acreage, but many stands are aging and losing mature trees faster than they are being replaced. Researchers studied the area to assess the health of the aspen forest over many years, beginning in 2008; this fact sheet discusses the results. It also provides management considerations.

Birch On Fetal Sentience, Claudia Passos-Ferreira
Birch On Fetal Sentience, Claudia Passos-Ferreira
Animal Sentience
Birch proposes that human fetuses be recognized as sentience candidates from 12 weeks, on the grounds that midbrain-centered theories fall within the zone of reasonable disagreement among theories of consciousness. I raise a methodological and a policy problem for his view. Methodologically, whether the midbrain-centered view belongs within the zone is disputed, so there is no consensus about the consensus. Furthermore, the evidence Birch discusses for 12 weeks does not actually estimate the onset of sentience; the proposed threshold tracks anatomical rather than functional onset. On policy, the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling shows that fetal sentience is difficult to …

Toward Efficient Small Organic Molecule Electrooxidation: Catalyst Interface Engineering, Peiyun Zhou, Ligang Feng
Online First
Electrooxidation of small organic molecules (e.g., methanol, urea, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural) represents a promising strategy to replace the kinetically sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water electrolysis, thereby reducing hydrogen production energy consumption and simultaneously achieving co-production of value-added chemicals or degradation of environmental pollutants. However, single-component catalysts often struggle to achieve efficient coupling between organic molecules and OER-derived oxygen species. This review addresses this challenge by highlighting the pivotal role of catalyst interface engineering (including reconstruction), drawing on our series of studies and relevant important reports. By constructing heterointerfaces, electronic structures can be modulated and intermediate adsorption optimized, thereby enhancing the …

Designing efficient and durable electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical for advancing sustainable electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies such as rechargeable Zinc-Air Battery (ZAB). Herein, we fabricate a heterostructured OER catalyst composed of CoS2 and Co3O4 nanosheets supported on nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (hereafter denoted as CoS2/Co3O4@CFs) through the anion engineering. Experimental results demonstrate that the in-situ selective sulfidation constructs abundant CoS2/Co3O4 heterointerfaces, enabling the synergistic regulation of electronic structure and active-site distribution. The O-to-S anion substitution modulates the interfacial …

Quantum-Enhanced And Machine Learning Framework For High-Accuracy Fatigue Life Prediction And Structural Analysis Of Connecting Rod, P. H. J. Venkatesh, P. Seema Rani
Babylonian Journal of Mechanical Engineering
The connecting rod is a critical mechanical component that transmits reciprocating motion from the piston to rotational motion in the crankshaft. Although connecting rods are traditionally manufactured from aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, or alloy steels, the demand for higher power-to-weight ratios has motivated the exploration of alternative materials supported by advanced computational validation methods. This study proposes a multilayer optimization framework for identifying the most suitable material for the connecting rod of a 110 cc four-stroke petrol engine. The component was modelled in Pro/ENGINEER, and high-fidelity Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed in ANSYS to evaluate the von Mises stress, …
