A Framework For Automated Quantity Extraction From .Ifc Models And Normalized Bid Comparison, Asmaa Mohamed Farouk
A Framework For Automated Quantity Extraction From .Ifc Models And Normalized Bid Comparison, Asmaa Mohamed Farouk
Theses and Dissertations
Accurate bid comparison remains a major challenge in construction tendering due to
differences in Bill of Quantities formats, item naming conventions, and pricing methods across
contractor submissions. These variations require time-consuming manual work and often lead to
subjective decisions. This research presents a computational framework that uses Building
Information Modeling through the .ifc file format, combined with text analysis techniques for
automated bid normalization.
The developed system uses a dual-component approach. Phase 1 extracts quantities from .ifc
model files using 3D geometric calculations, automated element classification. Phase 2 uses text
mining with a domain-specific dictionary of construction terms to interpret …
The Game Within: An Anthropological Approach To Games And Play, Nehal Maged Mohamed
The Game Within: An Anthropological Approach To Games And Play, Nehal Maged Mohamed
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is based on an eighteen-month ethnography of El Ghawasa, an Egyptian play-based organization that designs educational games, tools, and services. Claiming that El Ghawasa, with its ethos of play, seeks to create an alternative to the capitalist corporate structure. Through tracking how this organization navigates ruptures, negotiates constraints, and experiments with different practices and internal restructuring, I explore the possibilities and limitations of El Ghawasa, while attempting to resist absorption by the very system it opposes. I ask: when the rules keep changing (while the logic of the capitalist corporate structure remains the same), and the boundaries of …

Accurate short-term electric vehicle (EV) charging demand forecasting is important for charging infrastructure operation, grid management, and energy-system planning. This study presents a deployment-oriented and reproducible evaluation of temporal, spatial, and unified spatio-temporal forecasting approaches for day-ahead EV charging demand prediction. Using publicly available charging-session data aggregated at hourly resolution across ZIP-code regions, we compare persistence and ARIMA baselines, XGBoost, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), and a unified GCN+LSTM architecture under a consistent preprocessing pipeline, leakage-free validation protocol, and rolling-origin evaluation framework. For the Boulder ZIP-code dataset considered in this study, temporal information provided the dominant …

Deepfake technology synthesizes and manipulates digital content to produce artificial videos in which an individual’s identity, facial appearance, or actions are convincingly altered. These forgeries can be highly realistic, posing serious risks to trust in digital media and undermining personal reputation, dignity, and the integrity of public discourse. This paper presents the Lightweight Deepfake Evaluation Framework (Light-wDEF)– a resource-efficient, reproducible framework tailored for large-scale evaluation of visual deepfake detectors on modest hardware. Light-wDEF combines deterministic frame sampling, batched MTCNN face extraction, streaming append-only storage with lazy offset indexing, online Albumentations augmentations, stratified splits with class-aware sampling, and robust training (AdamW, …
The Relationship Between Adverse Childhood Experiences, Protective And Compensatory Experiences, And Parenting Attitudes Among Fathers, Kylie Schmidt
The Relationship Between Adverse Childhood Experiences, Protective And Compensatory Experiences, And Parenting Attitudes Among Fathers, Kylie Schmidt
Dissertations
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are defined as potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood particularly between the ages of 0 and 17 years that negatively influence long-term health, relational functioning, and parenting practices (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2026; Felitti et al., 1998; Merrick et al., 2019). Conversely, protective and compensatory experiences (PACEs) have emerged as protective factors that foster resilience and possibly buffer against the adverse outcomes of ACEs (Narayan et al., 2018). As the existing research has greatly focused on mothers, little is known about how men’s early life experiences shape their parenting attitudes, particularly during the …
Examining The Impact Of Social Support On Academic Self-Efficacy In Black Doctoral Students In Psychology, Asia A. Hall
Examining The Impact Of Social Support On Academic Self-Efficacy In Black Doctoral Students In Psychology, Asia A. Hall
Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between perceived social support and academic self-efficacy, or academic confidence, among Black doctoral students in psychology programs at predominantly White institutions (PWIs). Grounded in self-efficacy theory, the study was designed to explore whether perceived social support was associated with and predictive of students’ academic confidence. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was used, and data were collected using adapted versions of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Academic Self-Efficacy (ASE) scale. The sample consisted of 60 Black doctoral students enrolled in psychology programs at PWIs across the United States. Descriptive statistics indicated the …

Offline And Thriving: Understanding The Professional And Personal Lives Of Non-Social Media Users In A Digitally Dominant Era, Bhargava Mantena
Dissertations
Existing research has treated voluntary social media abstinence as the absence of users rather than as a condition worth study. This mixed-methods study examined its psychological and occupational correlates. Adults aged 21 to 65 reporting abstinence from all major platforms for six months or more completed three validated instruments measuring mental well-being, work engagement, and perceived social isolation; a purposive subsample of 12 took part in semi-structured interviews. The analysis set comprised 120 participants, below the 128 indicated by the a priori power analysis. Research Question 1 could not be tested as approved, because no active-user comparison group was recruited; …

Internal Verdicts Track Evidence: A Template-Controlled Neutrosophic Reading Of Epistemic States In Large Language Models Via The Jacobian Lens, Maikel Yelandi Leyva Vazquez, Alexis Matheu Perez, Florentin Smarandache
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
For twenty-five years, neutrosophic logic has assigned independent degrees of truth (T), indeterminacy (I), and falsity (F) to model epistemic states that classical and fuzzy semantics cannot express. All previous applications, however, measured these components on outputs: answers, judgments, expert evaluations. This paper reports, to our knowledge, the first neutrosophic reading of components inside the internal representations of a large language model. Using the recently released Jacobian lens on Qwen3.5-4B, we project intermediate-layer readouts onto lexicons of support, refutation, and hedging, obtaining layer-wise (T, I, F) profiles under three epistemic conditions (conflicting evidence, first-person false belief, factual control; n = …

Typed Abstention For Llm-Elicited Fuzzy Criteria In Multicriteria Transportation Decisions, Maikel Yelandi Leyva-Vazquez, Nezir Aydin
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Fuzzy multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) increasingly draws its criterion evaluations from large language models (LLMs), but the aggregation step typically treats these elicited judgments as interchangeable with expert opinion, with no mechanism to flag disagreement, insufficiency, or unreliable sources. We port a source-preserving, typed-abstention decision policy into fuzzy-MCDM pipelines, instantiated on a four-alternative sustainable-transportation case, and report two live pilots. Pilot 1 returns all-coherent; Pilot 2, redesigned with criteria of greater normative dependence, shows the gate firing on real disagreement. We report both pilots candidly and verify the gate's logic with synthetic unit tests.

Publications and Research
The present study aims to investigate the differences in citation usage and frequency among university students and expert writers in the field of Education. The analyzed corpus comprises 50 papers written in this discipline and is divided into two sub-corpora: one consisting of 25 TFGs and the other one formed by 25 articles published in specialized journals. To examine this phenomenon, a qualitative and quantitative methodology was employed, performing a textual analysis of the rhetorical functions of citations. This analysis is based in the typology proposed by Petrić in her 2007 article, slightly modified for the purpose of the present …
Legal Geographies Of The Public Trust Doctrine, Alida Cantor, John P. Casellas Connors, Elizabeth Carlino
Legal Geographies Of The Public Trust Doctrine, Alida Cantor, John P. Casellas Connors, Elizabeth Carlino
Geography Faculty Publications and Presentations
The Public Trust Doctrine (PTD) is a legal principle that recognizes a duty of the government to hold certain natural resources in trust for public benefit. The doctrine has been extended within the United States to address issues of water, coastal access, wildlife conservation, and climate change. Its implementation is spatially uneven and subjective, however, raising geographic questions around scale, power, and political economy. This article uses a legal geographic approach to understand the PTD. Focusing on water, wildlife, and atmospheric resources, we analyze themes of scale and jurisdiction, property and commons, and legal and environmental subjectivity. We argue that …

TMEM106B, a lysosomal transmembrane protein, is a risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer disease (ad) and TDP-43 proteinopathies. TMEM106B pathology occurs in normal aging and is increased in TDP-43 proteinopathy but its role in dementia remains unclear. Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is a driver and co-pathology of dementia, yet its contribution to TMEM106B accumulation in the context of TDP-43 and ad neuropathological changes (ADNC) has not been explored. We analyzed post-mortem human hippocampal sections spanning not-, low-, intermediate-, and high-ADNC. In secondary analyses, cases ≥65 years were stratified by TDP-43 immunopositivity and CVD severity; cases < 65 years were included to contextualize age-associated effects. TMEM106B immunoreactivity was quantified using digital pathology. Linear regression models demonstrated that age and sex (higher in females) were independent predictors of TMEM106B immunopositivity whereas Braak stage, CERAD-NP score, and Thal phase were not. The positive TDP-43-TMEM106B association was attenuated with increased CVD pathology severity, suggesting that vascular burden modifies this relationship. Sensitivity analyses restricted to LATE-NC attenuated several associations, indicating that pooled TDP-43 findings should be interpreted cautiously given possible disease heterogeneity. TMEM106B immunoreactivity was most strongly associated with age and sex, while vascular burden, rather than ADNC level, modified its relationship with TDP-43 proteinopathy.
Finite-Time Braiding Dynamics Within Topological Nanowire Qubits, Adrian D. Scheppe, Michael V. Pak
Finite-Time Braiding Dynamics Within Topological Nanowire Qubits, Adrian D. Scheppe, Michael V. Pak
Faculty Publications
Topological quantum computing has largely evolved toward a paradigm of manipulating edge-localized Majorana within p-wave topological superconducting nanowires. To bridge the gap between physical qubit systems and quantum algorithms, we perform a dynamical analysis to extend what is known in the adiabatic regime, providing time-dependent gate elements for further qubit and algorithm modeling efforts. Our analysis covers dynamical considerations for two methods of shuttling domain edge bound Majoranas in a single nanowire system, which both function by applying spatiotemporally dependent onsite and hopping parameters within the system’s Hamiltonian. We then complicate this model by converting it into the T-qubit to …

Human rights advocacy takes place within a deeply unequal world. As activists seek to protect rights, they struggle against the global economic and political power imbalances that drive violations. Movements for human rights are engaged in an internal struggle as well: against a human rights ecosystem that has long favored Global North organizations at the expense of civil society in the Global South. Decolonial Human Rights Practice: Tactics, Obstacles, and Futures explores the ongoing struggle of human rights organizations to confront and dismantle the coloniality of human rights advocacy.
Through a granular study of everyday advocacy practice which builds upon …

Towards Human-Centered Digital Health Interventions, Kristin M Kostick-Quenet, Eric A Storch
Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy Staff Publications
This article discusses the potential of digital health interventions (DHIs) in mental health care, emphasizing the importance of designing them to foster genuine humanistic care. It highlights current challenges in measuring engagement and outcomes, advocating for integrating human-centered endpoints such as dignity, autonomy, and therapeutic alliance into evaluation frameworks. The authors call for mechanistic research to identify effective engagement strategies and context-specific implementation approaches. Ultimately, successful DHIs should demonstrate both clinical efficacy and the preservation of humane, person-centered care, ensuring ethical and meaningful mental health support through technology.

Cracking The Code: Genotype-Phenotype Correlation Models In Sarcoglycanopathies, Leonela Luce, Conrad C Weihl, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
OBJECTIVE: Sarcoglycanopathies are among the most severe limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD), though milder presentations have been described. These diseases are primarily caused by missense variants, but the limited predictability of their effect on protein maturation, complex formation, and transport has hindered reliable genotype-phenotype correlations. This study aimed to establish accurate genotype-phenotype correlations for LGMDR3, LGMDR4, and LGMDR5.
METHODS: We analyzed the largest sarcoglycanopathy cohort to date (n = 541). Clinical data, including age at symptom onset and loss of ambulation, were collected and used to define phenotype severity. Predictive models were developed considering the impact of non-truncating variants on secondary …

IMPORTANCE: Opioids remain central to management of acute and chronic pain in sickle cell disease (SCD). Opioid dispensing declined over the 2010s amid opioid stewardship efforts, but patterns since 2020 are less clear. Analyses aggregating opioids into morphine milligram equivalents (MME) may obscure agent-specific patterns.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize opioid dispensing volume and per-recipient frequency, duration, and dose among individuals with SCD.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A retrospective cohort study of commercially insured and Medicaid-enrolled patients with SCD using the Merative MarketScan databases across 3 periods from January 2011 to February 2016, March 2016 to December 2020, and January 2021 to …

Potential diagnoses of NSF were identified by searching the problem list and encounter diagnoses using ICD-10 codes. …
Comparison Of Safety And Efficacy Of Lower-Intensity Versus Standard Unfractionated Heparin Infusion Nomograms For Extracranial Venous Thromboembolism In The Neurological Intensive Care Unit, Abdullah M Hakoun, Megha Gupta, Rajat Dhar, Mahta Mardani, Fatih Koc, Salah G Keyrouz
Comparison Of Safety And Efficacy Of Lower-Intensity Versus Standard Unfractionated Heparin Infusion Nomograms For Extracranial Venous Thromboembolism In The Neurological Intensive Care Unit, Abdullah M Hakoun, Megha Gupta, Rajat Dhar, Mahta Mardani, Fatih Koc, Salah G Keyrouz
2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Anticoagulation for acute venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the neurological intensive care unit is challenging because patients with acute brain injury or recent neurosurgery are at high risk for hemorrhagic complications. Unfractionated heparin infusions are commonly used, sometimes with lower activated partial thromboplastin time targets, but the safety and effectiveness of lower-intensity UFH nomograms remain poorly defined.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective single-center study of patients diagnosed with acute extracranial VTE, including deep venous thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism, between June 2018 and April 2024. Patients were grouped by treatment strategy: standard-intensity UFH targeting aPTT 60-100 s, lower-intensity UFH targeting aPTT …

To compare hypertension prevalence using 'initial' blood pressure (BP), 'subsequent' BP (averaged second and third readings) and 'total' BP (averaged three readings), we included 8-17-year-old youth with three BP readings from NHANES 2013-2020. From 2013-2016, BP was obtained using auscultation (manual protocol, MP) and subsequently, using oscillometry (automated protocol, AP). We excluded subjects with 'zero' diastolic blood pressure (DBP). In 5656 subjects, clinical hypertension (high systolic blood pressure [SBP] and/or DBP) prevalence was highest with 'initial' BP (350/5 642, 6.2% [95% CI 5.6-6.9%]), lower with 'subsequent' BP (289/5 642, 5.1% [4.6-5.7%], p < 0.001), and lowest with 'total' BP (251/5 642, 4.4% [3.9-5.0%], p < 0.001). Both MP and AP groups maintained this trend with a significantly lower hypertension prevalence with 'total' vs. 'subsequent' BP. An exception to the trend occurred in the AP group for three conditions: diastolic hypertension, hypertension in high BMI and Hispanic subjects. Diastolic hypertension prevalence with 'subsequent' DBP (86/2 285, 3.8% [3.1-4.6%]) exceeded that with 'initial' DBP (83/2 285, 3.6% [2.9-4.5%]) and was lowest with 'total' DBP (59/2 285, 2.6% [2.0-3.3%]). Diastolic hypertension prevalence was higher (126/5 642, 2.2% [1.9 - 2.7%]) with the 2016 European guidelines (same as 'subsequent' DBP) than with 'total' DBP (94/5 642, 1.7% [1.4 - 2.0%]). Our findings support the inclusion of the first BP reading in BP categorization, as 'total BP' leads to lower hypertension classification than 'subsequent' BP.

Reports, Projects, and Research
As the U.S. State Department increasingly designates drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), scholars and policymakers face a pressing need to better understand the structure and behavior of these groups. This report argues that drug cartels, particularly the thirteen currently designated as FTOs, are more accurately conceptualized as criminal entrepreneurial ecosystems than as traditional terrorist organizations.

Reports, Projects, and Research
This report provides a framework for how analysts can leverage observable activities of foreign terrorist organization-designated transnational criminal organizations (FDTCOs) as indicators for underlying decision-making processes around organizational stress, adaptation, and other strategic tradeoffs. Building on our understanding of FDTCOs as operating within entrepreneurial ecosystems, we apply a decision domain framework to three groups through case studies: Sinaloa Cartel, Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and MS-13. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a transnational Salafi-jihadist terrorist group, designated as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) by the U.S. Department of State. Since 2014 when the leader of ISIS declared the global caliphate, 280 individuals have been federally charged with ISIS-related crimes in U.S. federal courts. Since ISIS is a designated FTO, most cases (74.28%) involving ISIS-related activity involve the use of material support statutes. This brief summarizes the scope of federal court cases related to ISIS in the U.S. since 2014.

DHS Science & Technology Directorate (S&T) tasked the NCITE Center, in support of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to develop a framework for understanding the forms and underlying processes through which Mexico-based drug cartels innovate and adapt tactically. This rapid review report identifies the processes, drivers, and constraints that shape tactical innovation within cartel ecosystems. The framework adapts and extends multilevel frameworks of tactical innovation established in the terrorism literature, most of which were developed through the study of traditional terrorist organizations whose ideological constraints, resource profiles, and internal structures often differ substantially from those of Mexican drug cartels.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have significantly advanced cancer therapy by enabling the selective delivery of cytotoxic agents to tumour cells. However, ADC efficacy remains constrained by its dependence on a single target antigen, which limits tumour targeting and promotes resistance in heterogeneous tumours with variable and low antigen expression
