Participatory Work Design Intervention In A Disability Support Organization: Effects On Job Demands, Social Support, And Burnout, Arian Kunzelmann, Connie Deng, Lucinda Iles, Ryan Cheng, Helena Nguyen, Anya Johnson, Sharon K. Parker

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a participatory work design intervention to improve job quality and mental well-being in a disability support organization. We investigate whether the intervention is associated with changes in burnout (i.e. disengagement, work-related, client-related), and we assess the changes in work design through which the intervention has its effects. We hypothesized that the effects of the work design intervention on burnout occur via changes in social support (i.e. co-worker instrumental and emotional support) and job demands (i.e. role conflict, time pressure). 72 participants were involved (N = 21 in the intervention group, 66.7% female; N = …

Leveraging Hr Analytics Capability For Sustainable Supply Chains: The Roles Of Green Hrm, Ai-Driven Capabilities And Resource Commitment, Philip Opoku Mensah, Emmanuel Mensah Kparl, Abdul Razak Suleman, Michael Kyei-Frimpong, Adam Abdul Mumin, Elias Appiah-Kubi, Charlotte Adjanor-Doku Jan 2026

Leveraging Hr Analytics Capability For Sustainable Supply Chains: The Roles Of Green Hrm, Ai-Driven Capabilities And Resource Commitment, Philip Opoku Mensah, Emmanuel Mensah Kparl, Abdul Razak Suleman, Michael Kyei-Frimpong, Adam Abdul Mumin, Elias Appiah-Kubi, Charlotte Adjanor-Doku

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Among many firms in emerging economies, investments in HR analytics promise strategic insight yet often fail to translate into measurable sustainability gains. This study theorises and tests how HR analytics capability drives supply chain sustainability through the strategic enactment of Green HRM (GHRM). Drawing on dynamic capability theory and socio-technical systems theory, we propose that HR analytics capability indirectly enhances supply chain sustainability by enabling firms to design and implement data-informed GHRM strategies that align workforce practices with environmental objectives. We further argue that this indirect effect is contingent on two distinct enabling conditions: AI-driven capability, which strengthens the translation …

The Gender Gap In Writing: Gender Profiles For Paper- And Computer-Based Writing In Early Education, Anabela Malpique, Deborah Pino-Pasternak, Mustafa Asil

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Research Findings: The gender gap in writing has received strong interest from literacy education and research, based on recurrent reports of gender differences in writing typically favoring female students. In this study, we investigated gender differences on paper- and computer-based text composing performance among early primary children (N = 544 Grade 2 students). Multilevel analyses revealed significant differences between boys and girls in both compositional quality and productivity across writing modalities. Specifically, boys consistently exhibited lower scores in both compositional quality and productivity compared to girls. Gender differences were notably influenced by various student-level factors such as handwriting automaticity, spelling …

Playworld Translanguaging: A Place-Based Approach For Translanguaging Play Pedagogy In Early Childhood, Christine Robinson, Carly Steele, Toni Dobinson, Grace Oakley, Samina Manado, Katie Grace, Graeme Gower

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Conceptualised from a vision to honour children’s languages, agency and cultural ways of knowing, this research presents findings from a place-based translanguaging play pedagogy for early childhood called Playworld Translanguaging. In the remote Kimberley of Western Australia, researchers collaborated with educators in a Kindergarten/Primary/Yr 1 class of mostly Aboriginal children who have Bardi Jawi as their ancestral language, co-designing ways to revitalise this language through play pedagogy in ways intimately connected to place. Our Playworld Translanguaging approach reimagined Conceptual PlayWorlds (Fleer, 2018) with the intention of integrating pedagogical translanguaging. Following Indigenist research principles, critical participatory action research (CPAR) was the …

Lau, Michaela Donaghy, Sam Faber, Sophie Krivinskas, Francesco Piccolo, Calvin Sidhu, Tommaso D'Orsogna, Sona Vekaria, Edward Fysh, Y. C. Gary Lee

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Introduction: Intrapleural tissue plasminogen activator/deoxyribonuclease (tPA/DNase) therapy has revolutionised management of pleural infection. However, the optimal tPA dose is still unknown. The Alteplase Dose Assessment for Pleural infection Therapy (ADAPT) study-3 aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a lower starting intrapleural dose of 1 mg tPA (with 5 mg DNase) for pleural infection.

Methods: Consecutive patients with pleural infection who required intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy were treated with 1 mg tPA/5 mg DNase. Escalation of tPA doses were permitted at any time at the discretion of treating physicians.

Results: A total of 100 patients (22% female, mean age = …

Infant Formula Introduced Within 24 Hours Of Birth Increases Egg Allergy Risk, Jennie K. Nilsson, Summer V.M. Walker, Susan L. Prescott, Demelza J. Ireland, Sharon L. Perrella, Debra J. Palmer

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Breast secretions of colostrum precede milk production in the first few days after birth, providing nutrition and playing a critical role in shaping the newborn's gut microbiome and immune system development. Infants fed commercial milk formula in the first few days consume less colostrum, and previous studies have found an associated increased risk of food allergy.

Objective: To determine the risk of food allergen sensitization and IgE-mediated food allergy development in infants who received any formula during their first 3 days of life.

Methods: In a high-risk (defined by family history) cohort of 563 infants, born at 37 weeks’ …

Synthesis And Characterization Of The New G3 Family Of Organoantimony(V) Cyanoximates, Thao Trang Phan Jan 2026

Synthesis And Characterization Of The New G3 Family Of Organoantimony(V) Cyanoximates, Thao Trang Phan

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

Bacterial infections pose a serious threat to humans by developing resistance, rendering antibiotics ineffective. Of the 12 antibiotics recently approved since 2017, 10 belong to an already existing class. Various resistance mechanisms, such as reduced drug uptake, active efflux, drug inactivation, and target modification, can significantly reduce the efficacy of entire classes of antibiotics. Discovering novel strategies to overcome diverse mechanisms of resistance and improve therapeutic efficacy is in high demand. Inorganic compounds with organic ligands (both complexes and organometallics) represent a new class of compounds against which antimicrobial resistance has not yet been established. Recently, we discovered two series …

Quantifying The Fatal And Non-Fatal Burden Of Disease Associated With Child Growth Failure, 2000–2023: A Systematic Analysis From The Global Burden Of Disease Study 2023, Gbd 2023 Child Growth Failure Collaborators, Amanuel Gebremedhin

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Child growth failure (CGF), which includes underweight, wasting, and stunting, is among the factors most strongly associated with mortality and morbidity in children younger than 5 years worldwide. Poor height and bodyweight gain arise from a variety of biological and sociodemographic factors and are associated with increased vulnerability to infectious diseases. We used data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 to estimate CGF prevalence, the risk of infectious diseases associated with CGF, and the disease mortality, morbidity, and overall burden associated with CGF.

Methods: In this analysis we estimated the all-cause and …

Factors Influencing Clinician Escalation Practices For Deteriorating Patients In An Australian Emergency Department, Na Wang, Ruth Endacott, Simon Cooper, Clifford J. Connell

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Physiological deterioration is typically identified through clinical signs and symptoms. There is a growing adoption of emergency department-specific responses to patient deterioration. Although the effectiveness of ward-based Rapid Response Systems is well-documented in the ‘failure-to-rescue’ literature and widely used in acute medical and surgical wards, their implementation and factors influencing failure-to-rescue in emergency department settings are less well understood.

Aim: To explore emergency nurses’ and doctors’ perceptions and experiences of escalation practices for deteriorating patients, including the factors influencing these practices, in an Australian ED.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews and Framework Analysis. Interviews were conducted …
