School Creek, a tributary in the Baduwa’t (mad river) Watershed, is a riparian corridor that is key habitat for Coho Salmon. This project is under the management of the Blue Lake Rancheria, located on the ancestral home of the Wiyot people, and was conducted by cal poly humboldt students. The restoration of School Creek is an ongoing project aimed at repairing the health of the riparian corridor, improving the creek’s channel structure, and creating a diverse community of culturally significant plant species. Previous restoration efforts have established plantings to further develop the riparian habitat and are surveyed within this report. …

Rising energy demand in the United States necessitates alternatives to fossil fuels, yet renewable energy sources alone are insufficient to meet this demand. Nuclear power presents a promising option but faces persistent public hesitancy. This study examines how heuristic-based biases relate to American's risk-benefit perceptions towards nuclear power. Guided by the heuristic-systematic model. Results indicate that competence and affect are related to risk-benefit perceptions, and naturalness shows no relationship with risk perceptions but does correlate with benefit perceptions. Implications highlight the importance of affect-driven communication strategies for nuclear communicators, while also underscoring the need for participatory approaches that foster trust …

Marshall Mountain Park (MMP) is a beloved and historic public mountain park which hosts a variety of recreation opportunities in Missoula, MT. In 2025, MMP partnered with the Wildland and Recreation Management (WARM) Research Lab at the University of Montana to inform future infrastructure development and decision-making for the park. The aim of this five-month long research project was to inform visitor use management goals, utilizing geospatial and visitor count data to understand visitation patterns and trail use alongside survey data to understand visitor demographics, place attachment, recreation motivations, priorities for amenity development, and reaction to electric mountain bikes. This bilingual edition presents Reminiscences of Childhood, the autobiographical narrative of the Austrian operatic singer Amalie Joachim (née Schneeweiss), in Nina Joachim’s English translation together with the original German text. Written for her daughters, the memoir recounts Joachim’s family background in Carinthia and Styria; her early musical training and exposure to domestic chamber music; the political and personal upheavals of the revolutions of 1848; the death of her father and the family’s subsequent poverty; and her first theatrical engagements in Troppau and Hermannstadt. Mesoscale plasma sheet flows are widely understood to be a critical component of the overall picture of energy, particle, and magnetic flux transport during periods of geomagnetic activity. Without simultaneous measurements with true global coverage, the short lifetime (~10 min) and localized spatial extents (~1–3 R_E in azimuth) of these structures make obtaining a global picture of their contributions to stormtime magnetosphere dynamics difficult to characterize. Energetic neutral atom (ENA) imaging can enable remote mapping of plasma energization in the magnetosphere; however, its line-of-sight integrated nature, coupled with the challenging-to-characterize attributes of the target physical phenomena, means that numerous …

From the Introduction

In a previous article, I documented the various problems that are created by the law’s recognition of the power of a testator to revoke his will in whole or in part by physical act. That article canvassed five different areas of law in which such difficulties arise: ineffective attempts at revocation; the presumption of revocation; partial revocation by physical act; dependent relative revocation; and revival. In this Article, I first explore the asymmetries within the law of wills created by the persistence of revocation by physical act. I then offer some reflections on possibilities for reform.

Amid declining college enrollment across the United States, academic institutions with United States Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programs must consider underrecruited populations, such as military-bound young adults, in their recruiting strategies. To support this effort, this study examined the motivational factors associated with individuals’ decisions to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. This study utilized a quantitative, correlational research design with a survey comprising multiple sections: sociodemographic variables, items across six motivational factors for military service, and a Motivation-Confidence to Serve scale. Grounded in a robust conceptual framework that integrates Astin's input–environment–outcome model, critical race theory, and resilience theory, this research seeks to identify the complex interplay between academic support, social integration, racial climate, and institutional policies on the retention, persistence, and overall well-being of Black male athletes. Background. Internalizing problems in preschoolers are prevalent, cause significant impairment, and often persist into later development. Emerging research uses state space grid (SSG) methodology to examine dynamic parent-child interaction processes that may contribute to these difficulties. While affective rigidity has been linked to maladaptive outcomes, less is known about behavioral rigidity and its association with child internalizing symptoms.

Objective. This study examined whether dyadic behavioral rigidity could be represented as a latent construct across tasks, whether behavioral rigidity predicted preschool internalizing symptoms, and whether rigidity mediated the relationship between parent and child sleep problems and child internalizing symptoms.

Antibiotic resistance is a growing global public health concern that extends beyond clinical settings and into natural freshwater environments, where resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) can persist and disseminate through watersheds. Despite growing recognition of freshwater systems as environmental reservoirs of resistance, no published studies have examined antibiotic resistance within the Huron River watershed in Southeast Michigan. Water samples were collected monthly from May through October 2025 at 10 sites along the Huron River. E. coli and Enterococcus isolates were evaluated for resistance to eight antibiotics using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method, and environmental DNA was analyzed by …

Sexual dimorphism in longevity represents a striking example of natural selection favoring reproductive success over survival: in Colorado brown tarantulas (Aphonopelma hentzi), females live over two decades while males survive just months after reaching sexual maturity. I collected sexually mature males at three time points (August, September, October) across two years and quantified metabolic rates, locomotor performance, and survival under controlled laboratory conditions. This thesis comprises two articles examining complementary dimensions of that decline: metabolic senescence and locomotor performance. Open-flow respirometry revealed significant seasonal shifts: minimum metabolic rate increased through October, and metabolic scope peaked in September before declining. Survival …

This qualitative research study used semi-structured interviews to ask directors of elearning at regional public universities about decision-making concerning new information technologies that affected the data privacy and security of students and staff. The institutional setting and target population were chosen to standardize the inquiry and allow focus on how privacy decisions were made. The conceptual framework drew on Helen Nissenbaum’s theory of contextual integrity for privacy and contributions of behavioral economists on expert decision-making including studies of heuristics and biases, naturalistic decision-making, and the failures of deliberative groups. The ability of Jesuit educational institutions to pursue a central part of their mission – that of fostering diverse, equitable and inclusive educational environments – is under attack. This essay outlines several dimensions of their religiously-grounded mission and the reasons to strongly protect from government interference the rights of Jesuit universities to implement programs and practices that align with DEI values. First, for Jesuit universities, these programs and practices are rooted in a much deeper culture of the more than 2,000-year old Catholic intellectual tradition and the now 500-year old tradition of Jesuit spirituality. This article is part of a symposium on W. Bradley Wendel’s Canceling Lawyers: Case Studies of Accountability, Toleration, and Regret. I agree with Wendel’s two fundamental claims: first, and contrary to the reigning conception, lawyers can be held accountable for choosing to represent a particular client (assuming they have a choice), and therefore that they cannot use their professional role as a “magic shield or force field” (Wendel’s term) to deflect all criticism. Second, however, there is also an ethics of blaming, and critics who blame lawyers irresponsibly can themselves be blamed. One of Wendel’s examples is lawyers who …

This chapter critically examines the intersection of mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) and pro bono service in the United States, focusing on the growing practice of awarding MCLE credits for pro bono work. It argues that MCLE, widely justified as promoting lawyer competence, rests on a striking lack of empirical support and is structured in ways that undermine effective professional learning. A pro bono option for earning MCLE credit, introduced as an incentive to expand access to justice, has similarly failed to demonstrate measurable impacts on pro bono participation. In this paper we present a new approach to counting the proportion of hyperelliptic curves of genus g defined over a finite field Fq with a given a-number. In characteristic three this method gives exact probabilities for curves of the form Y 2 = f(X) with f(X) ∈ Fq[X] monic and cubefree, probabilities that match the data presented by Cais et al. in previous work. These results are sufficient to derive precise estimates (in terms of q) for these probabilities when restricting to squarefree f. Numerics is a free and open-source numerical computing library for .NET, developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Risk Management Center (USACE-RMC). The library provides 43 univariate probability distributions with L-moment and maximum likelihood parameter estimation, eight Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) samplers for Bayesian inference, bootstrap uncertainty quantification, bivariate copulas, optimization algorithms, and numerical methods for integration, differentiation, root finding, and linear algebra. Numerics targets engineers, scientists, and analysts working in infrastructure risk assessment, flood frequency analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation within .NET-based enterprise systems. This project involved the design, fabrication, and testing of a 6 degree of freedom robotic arm. The goal was to demonstrate that a low-cost, 3D-printed system could achieve useful strength, modularity, and basic manipulation for simple pick-and-place tasks. Potential applications include education, prototyping, hobbyist robotics, and low-precision automation.

The mechanical system uses 3D-printed arm links, cycloidal gearboxes, belt-driven transmission, bearings, and a modular end effector. These components were selected to balance cost, manufacturability, and performance, with gear reduction used to increase available joint torque. The electrical system provides motor actuation, power distribution, and controller integration, while the software enables command-based …

This thesis examines urban inequalities situated across Brooklyn, New York by speculating residential interactions with food resources in their neighborhood such as gardens, grocery stores, restaurants, and food pantries. With a specific focus on the areas Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Heights of Brooklyn, New York, the study utilized qualitative data such as interviews and dietary food logs during ethnographic fieldwork in order to assess the ways in which experiences with accessing food can reveal a deeper message about systemic inequalities along the lines of racism and class if we are to consider food apartheid.
