The landscape of teacher preparation is shifting toward clinically rich, practice-based models designed to bridge the longstanding gap between theoretical coursework and the realities of classroom teaching. Despite these reforms, many teacher candidates continue to face challenges in transferring what they learn in teacher preparation programs into effective instructional practice. This disconnect raises concerns about the coherence, responsiveness, and equity of current clinical preparation models, particularly in their ability to prepare future educators for diverse and high-need learning environments. This narrative inquiry study explores how elementary teacher candidates experience and apply professional learning experiences during a year-long internship in a …

What Novice Educators Find Supportive, Robin M. Bossinger Jan 2026

What Novice Educators Find Supportive, Robin M. Bossinger

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Teacher shortages have increased in the past two decades, creating greater emphasis on recruitment, talent development, and retention efforts for educational leaders. Novice educators feature prominently in these considerations. A teacher’s first years can be extremely challenging, and induction, the professional learning experiences specific to early career professionals, is often considered the answer. Despite the seeming ubiquity of induction, there is much variability in interpretation, enactment and outcomes. While it is generally accepted that some induction is better than no induction, new teachers deserve more intentionally designed support.

This study sought to reexamine assumptions about induction, adding to the literature …

Advertising With Haart: Introducing Human-Ai Asymmetric Relationship Theory, Veronica L. Thomas, Heather Shoenberger, Andrés Gvirtz, Sean Sands, Lotte Willemsen

Marketing Faculty Publications

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI)is rapidly reconfiguring advertising from message delivery and optimization to relationship-like exchanges between consumers and brands. While existing work has explained these interactions through social response accounts and interpersonal relationship theories, this lens risks overlooking a defining structural mismatch: AI agents convincingly enact relational characteristics but cannot experience relational benefits, costs, or commitment. Perceived mutuality can be high even when the underlying relational capacity for reciprocity is absent. We introduce human–AI asymmetric relationship theory (HAART), which conceptualizes AI-mediated relationships as relationally expressive yet structurally one-sided. HAART advances three tenets: (1) inherent AI agent characteristics limit relational reciprocity; …

"DO EVERYTHING!!" How many times have you heard that phrase from a distressed family member? We routinely receive this desperate plea, and our knee-jerk reaction is to press on, push harder, be more aggressive. We, as acute care surgeons, have spent our lives learning a craft geared towards "doing everything" to heal patients so this response comes naturally. However, how do we respond to "do everything" when the probability of a meaningful recovery is extremely low or non-existent? These situations create moral tension for surgeons who must reconcile the desire to preserve life with the obligation to avoid harm, respect …
