An Occupational Revolution: Reclaiming What Matters, Carol Lambdin-Pattavina, Wendy B. Stav, Nicole Quint, Sandee M. Dunbar
The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Intentional use of the word occupation to describe why, what, and how we do as occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants is central to maintaining our professional identity and to centering occupation in everyday practice. Throughout occupational therapy's history, using occupation, as opposed to words such as task or activity, has fallen both in and out of favor in practice and education in the United States. Some argue that task and activity, while not reflective of the nuances of the word occupation, including meaning and purpose, are more accessible to external audiences than occupation, which is often confused with …

Occupational Therapy Student Perceptions Of Sexuality And Intimacy Education: A Cross-Sectional Study, Jennifer H. Barnett, Amanda K. Giles
The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Sexuality and intimacy are meaningful activities within the scope of occupational therapy (OT), encompassing valued roles and occupations that contribute significantly to a person’s health, well-being, and identity. Despite acknowledgement of their importance, many occupational therapists overlook these areas during routine assessment and intervention because of feelings of insufficient knowledge, comfort, and confidence. This study used a cross-sectional design to electronically survey 149 occupational therapy doctoral (OTD) students across their first, second, or third year of education to determine their perceptions of sexuality and intimacy education. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data were analyzed via codebook …

A DOB violation for illegal use of two first-floor apartments as medical offices — in violation of the building's certificate of occupancy — barred the landlord from maintaining this nonpayment proceeding. The Appellate Term reversed the Housing Court's denial of tenant's summary judgment motion, holding that MDL § 302(1)(b) bars a landlord from recovering rent or maintaining a nonpayment proceeding for any period of noncompliance. The violation's post-commencement resolution did not permit the proceeding to continue; summary judgment for tenant was required and the proceeding was dismissed.

App Div 1st modified a substitution order in a rent overcharge action by directing that the new building owner be joined as an additional defendant rather than substituted for the original. Substitution under CPLR 1021 was prejudicial to tenants because it would require obtaining discovery from the former owner — alleged to have engaged in fraudulent IAI-based deregulation — as a nonparty, impeding the ability to prove knowing fraud. Carryover liability under RSC § 2526.1(f)(2)(i) prevents current owners from evading predecessors' overcharge liability, but joinder under CPLR 1018 preserves both defendants in the action.

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Relapse remains common in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV). We examined factors associated with relapse after remission.
Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed 130 adults with AAV followed between January 2015 and May 2026, all of whom achieved remission after induction therapy. Demographics, disease subtype, serology, organ involvement, baseline laboratory values, treatments, and relapse were recorded. Relapse was defined as recurrent vasculitic activity after remission requiring escalation/ modification of immunosuppressive therapy. Time from remission to first relapse was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards regression, with serious infection modeled as a time-dependent covariate. No imputation was undertaken.

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) constitutes 70% of all vascular findings related to Behçet disease (BD). Postthrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a serious complication of DVT that develops due to chronic venous insufficiency and decreases the patient’s quality of life. The physician-reported Villalta scale is a widely used and validated diagnostic tool for diagnosing and evaluating the severity of PTS. However, the necessity of physical examination by a physician burdens the clinician during routine practice. For that reason, a patient-reported Villalta scale was developed and validated. This study aimed to translate the patient-reported Villalta scale into Turkish and validate …

Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness And Aortic Elasticity In Seronegative And Seropositive Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Comparative Evaluation Of Subclinical Cardiometabolic Burden , Abdullah Nabi̇ Aslan, Yunus Emre Özbebek
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory disease associated with both joint pathology and elevated cardiovascular disease risk. Epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and aortic elasticity parameters are emerging cardiometabolic markers associated with systemic inflammation and subclinical atherosclerosis. Although the relationship between EATT, aortic elasticity parameters, and RA has been increasingly documented, differences in these parameters between seronegative rheumatoid arthritis and seropositive rheumatoid arthritis remain underexplored.
Materials and methods: Of the 396 consecutive patients with RA, only those free of established cardiovascular disease and uncontrolled cardiovascular risk factors were included. As a result, 80 patients with RA and 43 …

Influence Of Head Posture In Sitting And Standing Positions On The Vertical Dimension Of Rest Value In Dentate Patients: A Comparative Clinical Study, Mia Bardawil, Carole Abi Ghosn, Jihad Fakhouri
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Introduction: This study investigates the value of the vertical dimension of rest (VDR) in dentate patients in different head postures, supported and unsupported by the headrest of the dental chair, as well as in standing position.
Methods: The VDR was measured and compared in 60 dentate individuals aged 20–25 in different positions (sitting with and without head support, and standing) three times per position. The head was aligned according to the Frankfurt plane when unsupported or standing. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality and ANOVA to assess the effects of posture, gender, and their interaction. …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Posttransplant glomerulonephritis (GN) is an underrecognized but clinically important cause of allograft dysfunction. It remains uncertain whether GN detected in a clinically indicated kidney allograft biopsy provides prognostic information beyond graft function and chronic histological injury. The present study evaluates the association between biopsy-detected GN and death-censored graft loss.
Materials and methods: Included in this retrospective single-center study were kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) who underwent clinically indicated allograft biopsy between May 2012 and October 2025. The primary outcome was death-censored graft loss, defined as a return to kidney replacement therapy. Postbiopsy graft survival was assessed using Kaplan–Meier analysis and …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Necrotizing soft tissue infections are uncommon but rapidly lethal, and their perineal form, Fournier’s gangrene, is most often referred for reconstruction. Whether routine admission findings identify the highest-risk patients more accurately than severity scores remains uncertain, and whether sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, which are widely used in patients with diabetes, influence clinical outcomes also remains unclear.
Materials and methods: We retrospectively studied consecutive adults with necrotizing soft tissue infection at a tertiary referral center over 5 years. A subcohort of 70 patients who underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery was identified within the full institutional cohort of 137. Admission findings …

In this GCEL holdover, petitioner's motion to amend the petition to add required small landlord exemption disclosures is granted. However, petitioner's motions for summary judgment and use and occupancy are denied: summary judgment is premature because no answer has been filed and petitioner failed to authenticate key documents; U&O is denied because neither two adjournments nor 60 days have elapsed under RPAPL § 745(2).

In this failure-to-renew holdover involving a rent-stabilized Shelter Plus Care (SPC) apartment, the court dismisses because the petition failed to plead the existence of the SPC rental subsidy administered by HPD and the applicable federal pre-termination procedures. The omission was per se prejudicial because it deprived tenant — an SPC participant entitled to federal due process protections — of notice of a potential defense. Petitioner's motion to amend denied because petitioner did not allege it had followed SPC pre-termination procedures.
Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M.
Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M.
Vincentian Studies
This study presents and translates the text of an anonymous Jansenist pamphlet of 1739 which narrates a series of violent events that took place during a mission that French Vincentians preached in the parish of Le Plessis-Rozainvilliers. The pastor and the Vincentian mission team both fueled the outbreak of violence. The incidents described offer harrowing insight into attitudes and strongly held beliefs of the era. The context for this was the period of great conflict within France spurred by the bull of Clement XI, Unigenitus [Dei filius], issued on 8 September 1713 to condemn a Jansenist theologian. Rybolt provides an …

Motto And Seal: The Company Of The Daughters Of Charity, Betty Ann Mcneil D.C.
Vincentian Studies
Sister Betty Ann McNeil discusses the motto and seal of the Company of the Daughters of Charity from their inception in seventeenth-century France to its current usage. Saint Louise de Marillac transformed her devotion to Jesus crucified into a spirituality of service, as her chosen seal and motto signify. For the animating principle of her personal life and charitable service, the foundress, inspired by the apostle Paul, chose “The Charity of Jesus Crucified Urges Us” (Cf. 2 Corinthians 5:14). The motto and seal, transmitted to generations of Daughters of Charity since 1633, appear in modern documents of The Company as …
Persuasive Strategies To Increase Student Voting: A Communication-Based Framework For Civic Engagement At The Higher Education Institutions, Daniel Sherrick Apambila
Persuasive Strategies To Increase Student Voting: A Communication-Based Framework For Civic Engagement At The Higher Education Institutions, Daniel Sherrick Apambila
eJournal of Public Affairs
The decline in civic engagement among college students poses a significant threat to democratic society, with youth electoral participation dropping from 50% in 2020 to 42% in 2024. This study presents a comprehensive communication-based framework designed to increase student voting participation at Illinois State University through theoretically grounded persuasive strategies. Drawing from established persuasion theories including Cialdini’s Principles of Persuasion, the Theory of Planned Behavior, the Elaboration Likelihood Model, and repetitive frequency effects, this research addresses structural, informational, and motivational barriers that prevent student electoral participation.
The proposed strategic framework encompasses three interconnected approaches: (1) behavioral positioning and target segmentation …

Homonyms’ Lexical And Mystical Layers In The Poetic Heritage Of Jalal Al-Din Rumi, Asmatkhanim Mammadova
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
The article is devoted to the study of homonyms in the poetic heritage of Mawlana Jalal al- Din Rumi from both lexical-semantic and Sufi perspectives. The main purpose of the research is not only to determine the linguistic structure of homonyms but also to reveal their esoteric and mystical layers of meaning in the light of Sufi philosophy. In his works, Rumi skillfully employed polysemous words to create poetic-aesthetic beauty while simultaneously expressing profound meanings that illuminate the spiritual world of humankind. In the course of the study, homonyms were classified according to syllabic structure, and the functions of monosyllabic, …

The Symbolic Plane, Embedded Narrative Structure, And Simile Network In The Story Of The Bedouin Arab And His Wife In The Masnavi, Nihat Değirmenci
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This study analyzes the story of the "Bedouin Arab and His Wife," found in the first book of Celâleddîn-i Rûmî's Masnavi, through the dimensions of narrative techniques, symbolic fiction, and simile structure. Utilizing a text-centered qualitative analysis method, the research examines the multilayered structure of the work, which deviates from linear storytelling and employs embedded narrative and frame story techniques within modern narratological concepts. In the context of symbolic fiction, the processes through which the characters transition from the manifest to the allegorical plane are analyzed, identifying the Bedouin as "reason" and his wife as "self." The narrative emphasizes …

The Metaphor Of Intoxication In Sufi Poetry: In The Example Of Rūmī And Nasīmī (Comparative Study), Rashad Hasanov, Jokha Alharthi
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This article examines the metaphor of intoxication (sukr) in the poetry of Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī (1207–1273) and ʿImād al-Dīn Nasīmī (1369–1417) within the framework of Sufi metaphysics and comparative literary analysis. It explores how the symbolic language of intoxication articulates complex ethical, cognitive, and ontological ideas, particularly in relation to the motif of the ʿAhd-i Alast (Primordial Covenant). Selected examples from Rūmī’s Mas̱navī and Nasīmī’s Turkish divan are analyzed in order to examine the interplay between mystical experience, divine manifestation, and poetic expression. Situating these metaphors within the broader context of Persian and Turkish-Azerbaijani Sufi traditions, the article highlights the …

The Arabic Poems Of Rumi: Thematic And Structural Features, Shahana Shahbazova
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Mawlana Jalal al-Din Muhammad Balkhi is one of the greatest poets, mystics, and thinkers of the Islamic world. His Persian works have been translated into Arabic, Turkish, Urdu, English, and many other languages, leaving a profound impact on both Islamic mysticism and world literature. Rumi attracted attention in the Arab world centuries ago and his poems were translated into Arabic several times.
Rumi composed the majority of his works in Persian. However, the Arabic poems included in his divan have also survived to our time. Rumi wrote nearly one thousand Arabic verses. These poems differ from his Persian poems in …

Ego, Spiritual Ascension, And The Path To Social Harmony: A Sufi Analysis Of Rūmî'S Thought, Khatira Yusifova
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This article examines the concept of spiritual tranquility in the philosophy of Jalāl al-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, the discipline of the self (nafs), and the impact of these notions on the establishment of social peace from a Sufi perspective. The aim of the study is to analyze the metaphysical and ethical relationship between individual spiritual development and societal harmony, while also evaluating the applicability of these ideas within modern social, psychological, and ethical contexts. Rūmī's legacy encompasses not only spiritual perfection within the Sufi tradition but also universal approaches to humanity, society, and peace. In his system of thought, achieving inner …
Rhythm As Ontology: Rethinking Rūmī'S Concept Of Samā Between Sufi Praxis And Contemporary Performance Theory, Ghadir Golkarian
Rhythm As Ontology: Rethinking Rūmī'S Concept Of Samā Between Sufi Praxis And Contemporary Performance Theory, Ghadir Golkarian
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This article reconsiders the role of music, rhythm, and samāʿ in the thought of Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī by moving beyond their conventional classification as symbolic or auxiliary elements of Sufi spirituality. While existing scholarship has predominantly framed Rūmī's intellectual legacy around metaphysical love, ethical universalism, or mystical pedagogy, rhythm and embodied movement have been mainly treated as representational or secondary devices. This study challenges that tendency and argues that samāʿ in Rūmī constitutes an ontological domain in which being is disclosed through movement rather than conceptual abstraction.
The article's originality lies in its theoretical repositioning of samāʿ as a mode …
